Guess i'll start this

Is there a way to get any achievement rewards to show up under the achievements? I've seen it a couple of times of people talking about doing X achievement for a title or something but i have no idea where they are looking to find out what achievements reward what titles, or any other reward for that matter.

How about viewing completed quests? I'd sure like that option. One of our guys was trying to tell me a pre-req quest, but couldn't remember its name or where it was located. Since nobody could find a "show completed quests" option, it kinda sucked.

Has anyone seen a good site that has crafting recipes? I have used runebreak on a couple of blues and it has returned items that I have no idea what recipe to use with them. I have pretty much looked all over and there is not a comprehensive list of recipes, or items for that matter, like there was for ffxiv when it started. Heck even Fallen Earth right after launch had a better crafting database than I have been able to find for Rift.

I haven't been able to find a good site with comprehensive info either. ZAM and telarapedia both suck, although at least zam has a nice soul builder.

Does anyone know a website that can tell me where quest items drop off mobs etc, cause I am 37/38 quests in scarlet gorge and silverwood. I know they are not from NPCs because pretty much every quest from npcs direct you around. So I wouldn't of missed one quest that way. I must of got unlucky with a drop at some stage. Thanks.

Quick question:

I was doing the Rift quests where you have to get the yellow drop item (sorry not at home right now) and the first two I just right-clicked the drop and fought the summoned monster, then turned in the quest.

On the current one, I right-click the yellow drop item and nothing happens so I can't unlock the job I am intersted in.

SOmething I am doing wrong / summon requirements I am missing?

theres a net in your inventory, use that, not the drop

Now also appears in the quest log. Even easier now that you don't have to target that impossible shadow thing that was always under everyone's feet.

Alright so I've been doing warfronts for the last hour and managed to snag over 1.2k favor. Thing is, I've been checking the lv25 blue sets and they only ask for 500ish a piece, is that normal or is it intended to be able to get a whole set in 2 hours?

Things jump in price quite a bit. The level 30 gear out at Scarwood Reach is 5k favor each.

Ok so I have a question for those who do this:

Why did you pick up Rift to do the generic quest grind many other MMO's have? I have read threads on the Rift forums and someone even mentioned it here about running out of quests to do before the mobs are too high level for them. But uhh...why do you do this? I run around and I will grind large chunks of a level going from Rift to Rift. I'll often stop in and run some Warfronts, which are quite fun. I run dungeons repeatedly with my friends or randoms if I feel like it. I rarely ever quest.

Now, I can understand if you're 40+ and you're a class that can't solo well for Rifts and there aren't many for warfronts/dungeons, but in the 20's/30's you should be able to find people to do things with if necessary. I am often out soloing Rifts on my tank and get a random dps to show up and boy do I love that because I kill so slowly as a tank (at least if I have to solo them one at a time since they're elite). So why do the quest grind in an MMO that's actual name is about something else?

Well I quest because I can only really get on at late night to play... so theres no one on to instance with and all the rifts are dead. But right now I'm 28 and my quests have monsters that are level 32 :\ Everything whiffs, so I guess I have to try and rift a bit between schoolwork tomorrow just so i can continue questing at night.

Even as late as 30min ago there were still Rifts up in the 30's that I could go and do. Granted it eventually had one spawn elite and I didn't feel like running to the other side of the map to see if it was elite or normal, there were still Rifts!

Warfronts are a great way to gain experience points and levels. Even at the very early hours you can get positioned into a group because it's cross shard. PvP isn't for everyone but it's a great alternative to leveling past a point where you seem to be stuck as i have personally experienced your situation with being stuck on quest monsters being to difficult. There was talks of a cross shard auto dungeon finder from the higher ups and i sure do hope that it gets implemented soon.

Saga Story Quests: I like the fact they thought it would be cool to implement something that required you to use your brain, I do not like that fact i have no clue how to do the next stage so hoping someone here can help.

We have got the Control Decive, Plus a Gnar Brain. However when we looked at what a Pure Distilate was we saw it was a crafted item. Does anyone know where to get this recipe from or how to obtain it, i have read different databases and no one has really given me a solid answer.

Does the favor acquired from warfronts also scale up as we level or do I want to save it up for later? I'm so used to Aion's "farm guards/gank noobs for 40 hours to get a single piece of armor" that I can't believe getting good pvp gear would be so easy as to play only 3-4 hours lol.

I feel I have to preface this by saying I love that Rift isn't WoW, and I'm loving how it feels more like EQ + fun + class flexibility. That said, if they want to hijack WoW's dungeon finder then I have no qualms with that at all... in fact I would support it wholeheartedly.

Anyone know which cairns/puzzles cap at 30, 40, 50 ? Idk if they even cap at 40 or if its straight to 50 after the 30's. I'm almost 30 so i figure seeking out the cairns right away might be a good way to gear up/get some purps for selling.

Also, anyone know what happens with enq and gan? They hit me for 15k lol. Wonder if its another hidden thing.

I clearly remember reading an interview that they are trying to implement a dungeon finder tool for Rift, but aren't making an exact replica. They want to take all the problems people said they had with it such as destroying server communities, and fix it. They also mentioned that they might just make it server only, but who knows for sure.

I like having to run to the instances, and it only requires one person to enter it and all get the option to be ported in. All the game needs is a dungeon search option to find other ppl. It doesn't even have a world chat (lol, I know) or a general chat thats larger then the zone/area.

You get rare powder from runebreaking blues. Kinda gay you have to use it in weaponsmithing though. Guess i can always craft some blues on my armorsmith send them to my outfitter/artificer to runebreak and then use the rare powder for weaponsmithing! So much hassle

Yeah, I finally got an answer, but the dick wouldn't sell me any saying he had tons. I need to try and catching up my mining/weaponsmithing to my leveling so I can just pick off points as I kill shit. The Iron phase has been kind of miserable, though, as I can't find many veins and I'm still like 7 levels away from Chromite. Still, I'll need lots of Iron to skill up my weaponsmithing. I should work on my foraging, too... but fuck starting another gathering skill from scratch for now.

Am I missing something when building notoriety in Gloamwood? I did the main quest line and other shit, which basically got me to Decorated, but now I need 20k to hit Honored, of which I've only found 3 daily quests that give 175 apiece. Did they really intend it to take 39 days? :x

The next tier (above Dec) is probably what you get for running the elite versions of each area's instance.

03-04-2011, 12:01 AM
I've been using a mostly sentinel build and haven't had any problems main healing at that level range. You can couple this with either purifier or warden, I choose purifier for the shield as I also use this build in warfronts, and the fact that I just don't really like hot's. I also like pairing the +crit chance (flame speaker) from pur w/ the +crit bonus from sent (walk in the light) But warden probably offers better pure healing at this level range, and also offers some nice places to put skillpoints (+mana and +insta heal effect. The 3rd soul doesn't matter.

With main in sent, you'll get an instant cast, 1 moderate heal, and the 3sec cast time big heal in addition to an aoe heal. With purifier, I also get an additional moderate heal. Sent will also give tough the light, which makes your next spell insta cast, which I find pretty useful.

Honored isn't the highest one. There's one past decorated, which seems to be the current cap right now for zone areas, if I recall.

The servers were down for the transition from head start into retail. They went down around 6am, and I think are scheduled to come back up right around now. You should start seeing the servers unlock pretty soon.

There doesn't seem to be much talking in the global chat, so I'm never really sure which to talk in... It seems most of the time it's the Lv1-9 channel so that's what I tend to use. In order to join the LFG channel you have to type /lfg, I don't think many people know about that since I don't think I've ever seen anyone talk in it.

options > interface > action bars to add more action bars

you learn new souls from npcs in your home city, easy quest of going, finding a rift, completing it then summoning a ghost to fight. same for each soul, just look for npcs whos job is the soul you want to learn. You can also reset soul points for a small fee by talking to your trainer. price goes up each time you reset points

Kuya
03-05-2011, 11:52 AM

I've looked around everywhere and can't find anything so it's either a bug or a drop item which I am not going to spend ages killing all types of mobs to find that out.

Most of the time there are 2 markers on your map for the shadestone carrying events, one is a generator to which you must get close and the other is your ''mother'' crystal that has to stay alive at all time during the event. It's helpful to have all of the map unlocked so you can see the target for your quest, most of the people asking for coords are retards that didn't bother unlocking the whole vision of the map.

Kuya

I've never personally done those, but sometimes I've had my map glitch and things like rifts and such wouldn't show up. Usually they wind up marked with the little gold sun/halo things, but sometimes they'll be mobs that can actually move or be moved by people.

Has anyone heard yet about a recent stance Trion has with addons? There's a couple of things I'd like that I'm pretty sure Trion will never do. I found an old post where they stated they wouldn't allow it because they want everything to be ingame (can't find the post but it was back in alpha testing iirc). But not sure if this is till the case. I think this will hurt them tbh and frustrates me.

If you're wondering the two I really want is 1. make all bags look like one big bag. 2. make it so I can change the layout of the action bars (ie. turn them into a 3 X 4 grid like Bartender does for WoW).

Multiple bags irritate me to no end, but the major one for me is #2 because I use a gamepad for my action bars and my numbers are set in the 3 X 4 grid layout. That's such a rare situation though I can't imagine they'd ever implement that themselves. They may do the bag thing but that's also doubtful imo.

There isn't currently, but there will be in the next major patch.

From the alpha patch notes: * The macro system now supports the /suppressmacrofailures command, which will block the “Can only cast one ability per macro” and other messages generated by any commands following the /suppressmacrofailures entry.

One tip I can say to help you find it is that on the left of the minimap, the top button will let you chose which type of NPC's get displayed on your minimap. If you click this, one of the options is for the AH. But yeah, the AH can be found in the capital city (Sanctum for guardians, Meridian for defiant).

The turn-in for shardstones at kelari refuge is on the beach a little past the general goods npc. I never saw it marked on my map either, just eventually stumbled upon it. Its a glass bubble looking thing.

Question: Anyone play using cards in crossfire? Does it use 2 evenly or 1 just kinda idles while the other is at 99%?

You have to keybind "all bags" to B. I think it's set to only one bag and like control b for all bags.

no no no, I mean when I hit it with my keyboard it opens all bags but even though it's bound the same with my gamepad, my gamepad will only open one.

My best guess is that the g13 doesn't recognize rift so I have to make a file for it, which might glitch things up a bit.

If it didn't change from beta, it's 2 points every 3 levels, so that you can level up your other souls as well.

This is correct, you get a bonus point on every level that is a multiple of 3. You can only put a maximum of your level in any single tree (like if you're Lv34 you will have 45 points available to you but you can't put more than 34 into any single tree). The exception to this is at Lv50, where you are just able to put 51 points into any tree. You don't get a bonus point at Lv50 to do this, however, so if you plan to put 51 points in a tree and don't want to respec, then save your bonus point from Lv48.

weird question that I hope someone knows how to solve. Trying to get achi done in warfronts and I'm stuck on trying to get codex comando done. It was irritating me because I couldn't figure out which ones I had completed. (SS below so you know what I'm talking about).

Friend told me to click on the various sub parts to it to get the specific ?/2 for each. However when I click it, it just shuts that bar so you don't see the sub parts.

The same thing happens to my husband, which suggest either major glitch, or a setting somewhere.

any guesses?

You won't be able to equip them. It says "Unique Equip - Family" meaning that you can only have one greater planar of that effect equipped.

I'm not sure I understand the question correctly, are you talking about the achievements where you can click on any of the conditions and it takes you somewhere else? If so, this is only for the achievements that you get for completing a group of other achievements. Like for example there's an achievement for solving all of the puzzles, and it'll list each of the puzzles individually. You can click any of the individual puzzles and it'll take you to the achievement for that specific puzzle in the Achievements UI. This wouldn't apply to the achievement in your image, as its conditions are not other achievements. Sorry if that doesn't answer your question!

clicking on the conditions don't open up a new one, just then make the ?/2 for that specific condition. Well, that is to say my friend is able to do that, my hubby and I cannot. My friend was able to say exactly "I have 0/2 on flags" "1/2 on hostile" etc. by clicking on the conditions.

Well, I just started RIFT recently and I think it's pretty fun. I'm a 12 warrior so far, but trying to kill two mobs at once is almost impossible and a lot of areas have mobs that pat near other mobs, so... my question is, what's a good leveling spec focused around survival/solo? I'm currently Champion/Riftblade/Warlord, and it doesn't seem to be that great of a combo so far... @_@ Maybe I'm just doin it wrong. I'm a bit spoiled by WoW where leveling is balls easy and you don't really have to worry about your spec that much until endgame.

I found Reaver/Paladin/Void Knight to be fairly survivable, but that shouldn't be too surprising since it's more of a tank combo. Main focus into Reaver, dumping points into Paladin for armor first, then their endurance buff, then block rate. VK's mainly for the MDEF buff you can get off the bat. Not much point in spreading yourself thin at later levels, but part of me hopes we'll eventually get some quests that award more points to spend. For all the talk of the three class system and customization, it's rough to even invest modestly in 2 classes, let alone 3.

That took me a while to figure out...
You have to go back to Meridian after you get the satchel. Talk to Uriel who's in the middle tower top level. Then you go back to Iron tombs and there's a communication device I think after the first shard thingy that you destroy just a little bit down the path.

Not sure after that but it should be easy enough, it's just finding the npc without indication that's a bitch.

RiftBlade is fucking broken in my bracket in pvp, I've been consistantly doing twice the damage and kills of the one after me in the rankings, its completely insane when you have good gear, yet I'm curious on how to boost their damage. I've tried spellpower+intelligence and quickly came to the conclusion that warriors weren't using those stats, since there was a reduction in damage. Now I've been trying one handers with roughly the same dps as some 2 handers, yet lower base damage, and they were doing the same damage in everything that doesn't have weapon base dmg as a modifier. So I'm thinking it's just based off the base weapon dmg + some random stat I haven't tested yet, but does anybody have a better answer than this?

Also, in response to Arus2001's post above that I quoted, I would assume more points would come in as they raise the level cap, making it easier to spread points out. But since this game was recently released not even one month, we probably will not see this type of change for awhile :(

I don't know what kind of armor you wear, but the plate body piece (and legs too) are pretty nice to have if you can rack up the currency early for them. It really doesn't take that long to do the rifts, just need to get a few where you are near the top of the contribution list to get the blue/purple coins.

Honestly I've been wondering the same.....I was always under the impression that attack power was the deciding factor (tool tip says 150-170 and I do 300 even, with flamespear), but I tested different weapons, different gear AND that red circle buff in warfronts.....nothing changed. So....I'm assuming we need an update, otherwise at high end 50 pvp we're going to be left behind....on a awesome note, this means for now we can wear tank gear + shield with no downside lol

In PvE 2handers are still the best for riftblades though, as you can combine it with champion for AoE killing. I feel RiftBlade is overpowered since it has all of the advantages of a melee character without having to get in range, as well as an instant root removal. Honestly, I've been pvping a lot on my cleric and never came close to the numbers I do now on my riftblade, and I'm 31, so on the low end of the bracket and still coming out on top of damage and kills. Worst case we can just make another pvp combo that will scale better at 50.

Edit : Been doing a little testing tonight, simply switching between my tanking planar focus, my dps one, and my low level one that I've changed with casting enhancements, and I've noticed an actual damage difference in my spears. The damage is based on either STR,DEX or Attack power (which is my #1 guess). It would actually make sense that only attack power boosts the damage of these skills, since they aren't melee (hence the uselesness of STR and DEX), yet they behave like spells in the description with the high base damage and no influence by the damage of the weapon. And even then, I was only noticing a 1:1 ratio with damage:attack power, so it definitely doesn't have a huge impact on it. Spellpower is completely useless on it too, so don't try stacking mage stats.

To add to this and what Katlan asked. I'm on the same server as Katlan and for an hour last night, in Gloamwood, 2-3 level 50's consistently killed everybody that spawned or came through the portal. Now, while ganking and such maybe be humorous to some, to me, I don't get it. I think that if the level gap between attacker and attackee is too great, you shouldn't be able to attack them. In Warhammer they had a system to combat this that the higher level player would turn into a chicken if they attacked a lowbie. In any event, after about an hour a couple higher levels showed up to fend off these assailants and things were ok. I don't mind being on a pvp server but I also don't pay money to play a game where other players can completely dictate my time in-game just because they want to.

Not trying to be a jerk, but that is basically the definition of a PVP server. :/ If you want to play how you want, when you want, that's what PVE servers were made for.

I've heard a lot of people already say ganking can be pretty bad on PVP servers, but I don't get why people are surprised by that. PVP servers are always populated by gankers and people who think they'll have more fun by putting up with gankers.

Not to mention that the devs specifically warned that if you do roll on a PVP server, you should be fully aware and accept that this sort of thing will be common.

I personally love PVP and open world PVP. Unfortunately i saw what it was going to turn into early in beta and decided not to roll on a PVP server. Camping portals and quest hubs is not what PVP means to me. If there were clear objectives such as castle sieges and a 3rd faction, then i would roll on one in a second. In the long run, i just don't think open world pvp with only 2 factions will ever work.

That's my take on it too. It's a mistake on my part for rolling a character on a pvp server but I just thought there would be guards and such for safe spots in the game like in towns but there aren't outside of Sanctum (based on what I've seen so far).

Random Question: I played a RDM full time in FFXI. Based on those of you who have leveled a lot in this game so far, what class or class combo makes something similar to a RDM? I would assume one of the clerics but I haven't seen the right combo - granted I've never leveled one past 6 or 7. I'm looking for a balanced class that has some buffs, can heal and do some dps.

EDIT: I'm asking as I'm going to be re-rolling on a pve server.

Alderaan

You have to pretty much swap roles for what you want to do on cleric unless you want to be average on everything.

-Warden's are the best healers.

-Inquisitors have great AOE damage.

-Shaman have great single target damage.

What's sad is cleric dps is better than rogue dps at 50. You seriously could beat everything in this game with nothing but clerics.

Pyree

I'm not sure I agree with those...

From the expert dungeons I've done, I'd be absolutely terrified relying on Warden's HoTs, but I haven't tried. I've been using Sentinel.

Isn't Cabalist higher aoe damage than Inquisitor? Cabalist seems to be made for aoe.

Shaman damage is pretty bad at 50. I parsed mine on test dummies and compared it to Druid, and Druid was substantially higher. I threw away my Shaman build immediately when I saw the results of that test. Not to mention, Druid has more group buffs that will help everyone's damage too.

For real. Where there's PvP there's gonna be ganking/griefing. It's just the nature of the beast.

This is true for sure, however, I was really hoping a game developer would finally understand that griefing is not fun for the 98% of the population that are the victims. Warhammer tried to do something about it, but the system was clunky. The PvP level system could have been put to good use for this purpose and instituting Dishonorable Kill penalties to your rank if you were level 50 and riding through the level 10-30 zones killing everyone just because you were bored.

World PvP is something that is entertaining and fun, but only when its actually PvP and not GankvP. Aion had another "solution" when it came to rift level caps. This was widely felt to be unsuccessful because of the rogues and rangers that were able to stealth and gank everyone repeatedly.

All that being said, are PvP servers becoming Gank servers already? Are the level 50 players routinely so bored that they are riding to Freemarch or Silverwood and destroying towns and camping people? If so, it would be a good thing to know before I jump in head first. If its random ganking its one thing. Even Aion's rifting rogues were never a really big deal to me. It is the level 50s wholesale taking over strategic lower level points with no real recourse that I have an issue with.

From the expert dungeons I've done, I'd be absolutely terrified relying on Warden's HoTs, but I haven't tried. I've been using Sentinel.

It's a bigger pain in the ass for sure having to constantly refresh hot's but couple that with a good bard and you're golden. I dunno, i play bard 99% of the time and i notice tanks hp is always kept higher with a warden and doesn't require huge heals that sentinel is made for. Plus they never run out of mana.

Also according to our clerics, full spec Shaman with out dps Druid. We parsed our recent Greenscale run on trash and Duke and our 2 shaman lead the charts, which was very disheartening to all the rogues.

Best tanking spec post-40? Currently running 36ish Paladin/14ish Warlord/0 i don't remember, and it's doing absolutely great in dungeons, but what's the most accepted tanking build endgame?

Edit : And are warriors still the best or do the clerics kick our ass at it too?

Also according to our clerics, full spec Shaman with out dps Druid. We parsed our recent Greenscale run on trash and Duke and our 2 shaman lead the charts, which was very disheartening to all the rogues.

Well, I parsed them shortly after hitting 50, and my results roughly (going by memory) for single-target dps on the parctice dummies were:

Shaman Spec (http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=00nrj.EedttrsAk.x.V0x) 390 dps
Druid Spec (http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=00anj.Vq0qhkVRz.Exz0kMs.V0xz) (using Satyr) 490 dps

When I made that druid spec, I wasn't sure how useful the pets actually were so I was hesitant to spend points on them. Just last night I made a 51 point Druid with the pet talents to test out, but didn't have the time to run all the tests I wanted. The test I did was:

Druid Spec v2 (http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=00anj.EqIqAkqqz.Ex) (Using Faerie) 550 dps

From the parsing tests I've done with a couple different builds, I don't see how it would be possible for a shaman to out-dps a druid. And I've talked to several other clerics that have also claimed that shaman is underwhelming compared to druid, but maybe we're playing it wrong somehow. Also in the experts I've been able to do as druid, granted only a few, I've always been the highest dps in the group, and by about 1.5x the person in second place. I haven't done Greenscale's Blight at all yet.

I'm still working on maximizing my damage though, I've been testing a lot of different things on the test dummies with my parser running!

Now parse a Beastmaster/Champion or Necro/Lock, you'll wonder why anybody plays anything else.

1,000+ DPS, much easier on the Warrior (2 keys go)... but also possible on Necro/Lock

A soul purge that does maybe 2.3k over a 5 second channel plus some dots and some mage or rogue white damage compared to 1.6k instant cinderbursts, instant wildfire crits for 850+, fireball crits for 950+, and solid 1k overwhelm crits. I'm not exactly sure how it works, since I hate classes with pets, but you don't spam DoTs for your only DPS. What you use is a combination of your 3 main DoTs, Void Bolt,... and... something else. I've played like 10minutes of Necro so I don't remember all the spells. :( Buffed, the lowest DPS I saw out of our Necro/Lock was like 700 and that was on a fight where we was moving a lot.

Eaglestrike
03-19-2011, 06:05 PM
Yeah, a class like Warlock will do really well on a movement fight because all you really need is to stop for 2s every 10s to refresh life leech and otherwise a good chunk of your damage continues on. As well as your pet damage and such. Some other classes do very little dps while moving but DoT classes keep at least 50% of theirs while moving.

The only hard parser comparisons I've ever done were around level 33 between my pyro and my lock (I was extremely well-geared). My pyro was doing something like 255+ DPS on single boss fights with heat wave, while my necro was around 175. There was simply no comparison. I mean, it wasn't even an issue of movement or anything. Once you get going with pyro/lock with massive opportunity procs, its game over.

Level 50 and below dungeons – No hit, focus or toughness required
Expert 1 Dungeons (Realm of the Fae, Iron Tomb, Foul Cascade, King’s Breach, Fall of Lantern Hook) – No Hit, no Focus, 50 Toughness
Expert 2 Dungeons (Darkening Deeps, Deepstike Mines, Runic Decent, Abyssal Precipice, Chamer’s Caldera) – 100 Hit, 100 Focus, 100 Toughness
10 Man Rift Raids – 100 Hit, 100 Focus, 100 Toughness
20 Man Instance Raids – 200 Hit, 200 Focus, 150 Toughness

Been bored and eyeing this game as of late so maybe some of you who are playing it can help me out.

What got you into the game?
A mix of FFXI ennui with basically no longer getting along with the linkshell I was in due to people I liked quitting, never clicking with new members, and Abyssea basically fostering the clique mentality.

What are the good/bad aspects about it?
It's solid for what it does, but at the same time it's not really revolutionary. I haven't been playing as much since I hit 50 since me and endgame grinds never really meshed well, especially when wresting opinion against the super hardcore.

How is the gearing system and endgame?
Reskins suck, and some of the designs are underwhelming. There's a small pool of mods that can get applied to green/blue/purple gear as you find them, but even with the sub-classes within a class, there's not really a reason to go for INT/Spell Power for a magic using warrior, for example, as the game seems to instead use STR and such for it. I can't speak for all classes, though.

Endgame is pretty much what you can expect, run dungeons, PvP a lot, farm rifts/pray for high rank for purple shards, build rep, and do it all over again for a new character.

Is it worth getting it and why?
Over current MMOs on the market in the US, I'd say it's got some of the best potential to go somewhere. Especially if Trion keeps on the ball with updates and feedback. However, I got burnt out on the "What if..." game with XI and Aion just pissed in my cereal with promises of Westernization and such, so potential might not be the best of selling points. Is it worth $50 and the 30 free days that come with it? Assuming you can plop down 4 hours a day or so, I'd say yeah. You could get one character to 50 in that time and put a decent chunk into some crafting skills, but maybe it's just server infancy, but crafted gear seems to play third string to planar gear or dungeon loot, barely beating quested stuff at times.

Your best bet would be to have some people to go into it with, but that's kind of true for all MMOs. Something I've yet to really manage, though, since people I knew either weren't picking it up or their schedule varies too wildly for me to play with regularly so I may as well be alone.

What got you into the game?

I'm just a little bored with WoW as there are only a couple raids and my guild isn't interested (nor am I) in raiding 5 nights a week. That and I was in the closed beta for a bit and I liked the game.

What are the good/bad aspects about it?

This will be opinionated (obviously).

The things that I consider bad are the following: The questing - seems a little all over the place. Some animations - jumping looks a little clunky and some weapon swings (these are seriously minor lol). Hacked accounts/security - this hasn't happened to me (yet) but it's an issue. There may be others but none that are coming to mind at this second.

The good: The rifts - they are interesting and break up the quest grinding from time to time. The combat speed - I love the action of combat yet the pace of it. For instance I love being able to rotate through abilities but also to have the time to react and not 2-3 shot mobs. The UI/settings - these are pretty similar to previous MMOs so I like that they didn't go all over the top with something 'new and exciting'. The game world - It's pretty. I like the art style and the world. As with the bad, I'm sure there are more things I could mention here.

How is the gearing system and endgame?

No idea as I started on a pvp server, hit level 20 and decided to start on a pve server to avoid being ganked.

Is it worth getting it and why?

I think the game is just different enough from previous games to pick it up if nothing else to kill the time until the new WoW raids are released (I'm kidding.....or am I?) The rifts are cool (like the Warhammer public quests) and the rest of the game is something that you are going to be somewhat used to if you play(ed) WoW. If you can get in with people you know from previous games then I'd recommend doing so. So far, for me and my wife, we haven't found an active guild/group to run with and that is a little disheartening. I think with newer MMO's because you can solo so much, it's harder to find good groups of people even in smaller numbers. I've seen it become an issue in some ares of the game where rifts spawn and there aren't enough people to run them or even worry with them.

Anyone have some good builds or recommendations for war dps souls? I picked up paragon, champion, and riftblade like it suggest but i've just been full on blowing points in champ since it had the best stat increases that didn't deal with the specific soul. This is pretty much the top dps build. The 1 point in Paragon is for combat precision which is currently bugged and ignores 99% of the targets armor. This build is pulling around 1100-1200 dps in Greenscale while the top rogue build is pulling around 650-700. Enjoy it while you can is all i can say!

What got you into the game?
FFXI being down, wanted something to do. I have not had great experience with these "styles" of MMO's, but this game has been incredibly addicting.

What are the good/bad aspects about it?
Good: Graphics are great; you can really get into the environment around you. One of the areas (Silkwood Pass) reminded me of the spider forest from Harry Potter and it creeped me out whenever I was in there. The class system is very fun, you have a lot of options to make what you like. It has some similarities to the job system that FFXI has, but you are restricted to your main archetype. But within each archetype there are many many combination's. I really enjoy the public quests/raids because they are not incredibly long, have the ability to pose a wide range of difficulties, and rallies the entire community together.
There are times when widespread invasions are occurring absolutely everywhere via rifts, Defiant/Guardian invasions, goblin invasion. The sky is red, with packs of mobs everywhere and I never see people ignoring these invasions. Everyone rallies together and rapes shit up which is nice to see.
The combat system took some time to get used to since it is different from FFXI, but I'm really liking it once I figured out how to do simple macros. Also being able to swim/jump everywhere is absolutely amazing for sneaking around fortresses to complete quests.
Crafting/gathering is also very simple and you progress quite quickly if you put effort into it.

Bad
The community is not the same as FFXI which I sorta miss, so you have to deal with stupid teenagers but what ever. Dungeons take fucking forever at low levels from my experience (I'm only lvl 27). I spent 2 hours in my second dungeon because of so many deaths, but I guess it was because it was actually very challenging for us. Despite the length, the boss fights were very fun and many are come down to seconds.

How is the gearing system and endgame?
Gearing system is very simple. You essentially get consistently upgraded from doing quests. Endgame I have no experience with yet, but I assume there can't be too much since it just came out.

Is it worth getting it and why?
Yeah I think so for reasons above. There are more good things that I have, but don't want to type more and think more. The game has a lot of potential and I don't see it dying off. Yes people seem to compare it to WoW, and they are probably very correct. I personally couldn't get into WoW cause I thought it looked fucking retarded (graphics wise). I thought it was a joke, but this game gives me a different feel. I definitely do not regret spending $55 for this game.

tonyg
03-23-2011, 10:22 AM
@poster above me:
Your bad points are connected : Retarded teenagers try to do shit too fast (either getting to 50 and being geared like shit for their level or trying to clear the raid as quickly as possible) which leads to you dying multiple times. Find a group of players that level at around the same pace as you do and keep grouping with them, makes clearing new dungeons much easier AND splitting gear without any headache. For example, I've been constantly farming instances with the same warrior since lv17 on my second character. He's been mainly tanking and I've been mainly dpsing, both of us are awesomely geared for our level (45 now) and we always get a support along with a main healer so we're sure that we can clear the instance without much problem. I always top the DPS charts (and by far) while he's a close second most of the time, so we could basically 4man every instance we tried. When tank gear drops, I pass and he lots need, while when dps gear drops he passes and I need.

The only real gripe I have atm is in PvP, where I either get stuck with fucktards that keep whining everytime they die or simply troll like there's no tomorrow, or with AFKers, which really reduces the fun factor in it.

I heard somebody say that Trion was trying to work out shard transfers and had to be careful because they wouldn't want someone to level to max on a PvE server then transfer to a PvP server for the PvP. I got the impression that PvE is easier to get to max on (I've only ever played FFXI as far as mmo's go, no WoW for me); is this because you don't get ganked every five minutes (past 27 I haven't been able to finish a quest without getting killed by someone 3+ levels above me, or parties of them), or because xp or mobs somehow work differently?

T2's i wouldn't even attempt with pugs yet.

And yes Warfronts are cross server but only the 4 servers in your bracket i believe. A lot of people also stopped doing them until warriors are fixed. OK, I need some help with Cleric. I suck at healing. I did ok on dungeons pre-50, although at 43 I did have a lot of trouble keeping the tank alive on FOLH boss. Spec im using is this http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=10ejG.xE0hk.xMtz.xxkeMkzqz 32 purifier/20 warden/14 sentinel. Basically I was keeping HOTs stacked and using healing stream, and using healing breath or the purifier shield if they dropped low. However this isn't cutting it anymore, tried expert IT last night and the chloro was basically carrying the bulk of the healing. I'm going to try out a full Sentinel spec, am I supposed to just spam Healing Invocation and use AOE heals if needed?

Secondly, targetting. Using F keys works fine for 5 man stuff but in warfronts/rifts with multiple groups is there any better way to target people other than with the mouse or tabbing through 20 people? I'm so used to using a controller for FFXI I feel like using the mouse is slowing me down a ton.

Eaglestrike
03-30-2011, 01:05 AM
When I was still playing Purifier the 3s heal was both healing for more over time (more than twice the 1.5s cast in healing) and has that shield onto it, making it very efficient. I'd only use healing flame with the little AOE damage buff they get at high points.

The way I plan to spec when I'm 50 is: http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=00ejG.xE0xqkRqz.i.Exozc0z This is basically a full warden build but with all the Purifier cooldowns. The Caregiver's blessing (shields on each single target heal) work with HoT's, so you can hit that and get 6 shields on your next recasts of HoT's and such.

My heal rotation is like thus:
Healing spray up whenever tank is taking high damage.
Refresh Soothing Stream at the end of its timer at 4 stacks at all times.
Keep Healing Current up when damage is high.
Deluge as needed.
Fill up time between Deluge with an AOE heal, Orbs of the Stream cast, healing breath, etc.

Figure out a good way to keybind the massive number of cooldowns and use them fairly liberally. You have a TON in this build, so utilize them whenever necessary. Now I don't really need them with how I heal, but Wardens are essentially Resto Druids and purifiers are disc priests, so I'm used to both kinds of healing already. I also expect to need to use them once I hit experts myself.

I never played WoW so I'm not used to this kind of healing at all. Gimme Cure V spam any day over this. My rotation was essentially the same as yours except I also used Healing Flood as part of it, and honestly I never used Caregiver's Blessing much for reasons I'm not sure, I realize how useful it is. I think the vast number of abilities overwhelms me when the tank is going down fast.

Compared to WoW, there are even more abilities in this game, especially with the build I posted. It's quite difficult for me to remember/use them all, so just work on it and get used to it, over time, you'll get it.

A good time to use Caregiver's blessing would be like say if you got stunned/silenced and the 4 stacks of soothing spray fall off. Use CB and then get your HoTs back up and you'll have some extra shields along the way to help the tank recover.

Unfortunately with there being no addons, there's no Clique. Clique was a WoW addon that allowed you to bind spells to your mouse. So I would have the shield of the ancestors spell (PW:S in WoW) bound to button 4, near my thumb. I would have my mouse over someones unit frame, hit button 4 and I would shield that person. I'd put the cleanse poison/disease spell on button 5 and hit button 5 over someones unit frame to heal like that. It completely solves the targetting issue of having to mouse-click on someones frame and then heal them. Unfortunately it's not in the game...yet!

A macro something like this can be bound to your mouse keys for mouseover healing

#show Yourhealspellhere
/cast @mouseover yourhealspellhere

Anyway that worked on my cleric with healing breath, bound to mouse button 4.

So I used to go Assassin/Ranger/Bard, but now that regen is 24 points, I'm thinking of changing it, because that was the most useful buff. I'm 34 now. Any recommendations? Also, I never played WoW or similar games; I've found that there are a ton of abilities, but none really seem to make enough of a difference to make me do something other than Quick Shot to 5 points, then head shot, or, when the mob is too close, Savage Strike to 5 until final blow, while buffing with Motif of Bravery, Focus, and Tenacity before fights, and using the Razorbeast. Am I missing out on some other, better way?

Also, is there any point to grouping for XP? How would I go about it?

I feel like after these questions I should ask how to walk and chew gum at the same time.

Cyn

Why would you not use the bleed that gives 2 CP to open? And then the armor debuff? And for that matter, if you're using the razorbeast, why would the mob be coming after you? Also, why pair assassin with ranger over NB? For 10 points in the NB tree you can get a 15% damage increase on both CP builders and finishers... Not to mention, you're losing out on a lot by putting points into a support class when you have a pet that you can heal and will do all of the tanking for you. My ranger is 32, and iirc this is how I'm specced right now: http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0MiNb.V0x.VMsbujkck0z

Unless your going to go at least 31 into ranger, its not worth it to sub (maybe for marks is another story). I also don't think bard is a good sub as it doesn't compliment other soul's and is more of a standalone tree (other souls, like NB, can buff bard). Bard buffs just aren't worth the hassle to keep up unless your going deep in the tree as that little crit / ap / ect.. isn't worth having to spam abilities every 30 seconds while leveling. Bard can be a decent offspec for leveling if you use another spec for it. You kill slower as bard, but your pretty tough w/your heals and CP heal ability.

If you want go to melee, or even ranged, I'd suggest using riftstalker as a sub since w/ 13 points into it you can get the talent that converts each leftover CP into 6%hp. It's nice for leveling / grinding / whatever and removes a lot of downtime. Also, for leveling, bladedancer is nice since w/ 11 points into it you can get flee and the default 15 second dodge ability that comes w/ the tree is OP

Bladedancer/18assassin/13riftstalker is the best leveling rogue spec.

Probably something like this at your level:

For guardian mounts: do the lion mounts jump higher than the horses? lol >_>

Edit:

To add to the Rogue talk: Putting 13 into Riftstalker for soloing purposes is very much worth it. Whether you use the above Bladedancer build or go more heavily into Ranger is up to you. I used the Bladedancer build up to about 42, and just recently have i switched to a more Ranger heavy build and I think I am liking it more. I feel I can take on higher level mobs more comfortably and kill them quicker.

Here is what I'm using now. I plan to dump the rest of my points into NB. I'm not sure if I've dumped too much into Ranger, but I do value the damage my pet does. I haven't parsed it but I sure see some crits for 200+ pop up, so it can't be too shabby.

For any defiants that have done the first saga quest in Freemarch, where you have to get the attunement shard off of Endless Nightbringers, how many did you kill before you got it? I just killed my 50th and nothin.

Ive done a huge amount of questing so far and nothing nothing nothing nothing nothing ever requests you to kill more than 5? mobs for one quest drop and that is with some insane bad luck. Odds are you missed something like Alderaan said.
(Not to be mixed with items dropping that gives you a quest, such as let's say light downy cloth. That can take a lot more time.)

I'm almost positive it was made into a 100% drop. I must have killed 60 of them before someone told me i must have missed a step. Sure enough, i came back and got it on first kill.

(Not to be mixed with items dropping that gives you a quest, such as let's say light downy cloth. That can take a lot more time.)Thats what this item is. The attunement shard starts a quest needed to complete an objective for the saga quest for Freemarch. But I'll go try and talk to people around Meridian and see if that fixes it for me :o Gotta make a comment on the zam page for the quest letting other people know this to save them some time haha

edit: well either they changed it, or the site I was reading for a guide on this was wrong. You just get the quest from the NPC you're supposed to talk to now instead of from the dropped item.

With the warrior changes, what is everyone picking up now pve and pvp wise? I'm still using champ for pvp main and keep pvp and riftblade for other 2, pvp for break free and been messing with other souls to see what would work with champ for pvp but nothing really meshing well. I tried using voidknight for mana burning but it didn't seem to work out that well and even on almost pure champ I'm having trouble burning fcs down, though only 34. Pve i'm still beast/champ/para, didn't have time to mess with it yet, may just keep para to go down the crit stance.

Ok. In ffxi you can target someone and press * to lock on if you need to move closer to them. Then we have distance plugin, apradar, etc. Also names in FFXI are much more visible and characters stand out from the background much better than in rift.
I am having huge issues with this in rift, the only indication I have if someone is in range is if their raid box thing is lit up. And it could just be because they're on the other side of a bush. It's very difficult to locate someone visually and the map has no names on it. Wtf am I doing wrong that's making it so difficult for me to get a bearing on the other players? I suppose part of is it that I am not familiar with what the classes look like yet, and will be easier when I hit 50.

Cyn

FFXI had a lock-on because it was basically a PvE only game. And the plugins that you're talking about were not only 3rd party, but came years after the launch of the game.

I'm sure all those things will come once they allow plugins and addons. I know what you mean about losing other players as i have a horrible time seeing the light blue names. I tend to just mark them with big numbers especially in Warfronts. I would absolutely love it if i could change everyone's name to the PVP flagged color.

Go Inquisitor/Justicar/Sentinel. Put 2 into Inq first for Sanction Heretic, then 6 into Sent for Shards of Light, then 10 into Justicar for Mien of Honor, then the rest into Inquisitor.

Rotation: Vex > Sanction Heretic > Bolt of Radiance > Light's Vengeance > Shards of Light > Whatever comes off CD, prioritizing Vex/Sanction Heretic as they expire. For AoE, just pull everything with Vex and use Soul Drain -> Whatever -> Soul Drain.

You'll basically be unkillable, with zero mana issues and good killing speed. While leveling with that, I could take 10+ mobs comfortably once I got Soul Drain and 7-8 before that.

It'll end up looking something like this: http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=10rdj.Vuz.VEobMxzqz.Vo

Some chain pieces have a disgustingly high bonus to int/wis, one dropped on last boss of expert CC and it had awesome stats. I think they actually keep the bonuses adjusted so you can clearly lot on your type of armor only with no contest between mages and clerics.

Has anyone else tried a dual wield tank spec on warrior on this forum? mostly just curious....cause I totally made one /grin.

22 reaver/32 paragon/ 12 paladin. granted i lose 8-10%ish physical reduction and have like 32 x .48 hp less than a pure tank....but 10 seconds of 0 damage (from melee, mages still rape me) every 30 (so 20 seconds of down time) seconds with the damage potential of a melee dps? its fuuuuuunnnnnn. Tested it out a bunch yesterday with a Expert FC run.....we didn't wipe once =) (though sparky raped the shit out of me).

Any Warrior mind explaining the difference in DPS builds of:

http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0cLku.VM.EuczV0bGudz.icx0oV

vs a comparable BST build?

I use that for general farming / PvE since my one macro includes:

cast Bloodthirst (free critical)
cast Frenzied Strike (free follow up after every crit)
cast Turn the Blade (after parry/dodge)
cast Inescapable Fury (after block/parry, in case Turn the blade doesnt proc)
cast Flinching Strike (crits so often w/ spell interrupt)
cast Disruptive Strike (2 for 1 attack points)
cast Rising Waterfall (follow up attack)
cast Path of the Wind (ranged attack with double jep you gain a 6% chance to crit after it lands)
cast Power Strike (in case i have to)

finishers include Deathblow -> Titans Strike -> Punishing Blow

Benefits: Strike Like Iron (+48% damage for 12 seconds), Mark of Extermination/Inevitablity (25% crit rate / a lot of armor down), lots and lots of power regen from crits, Proper timing (crit move you can proc every 30s)

I don't have the parse numbers on it, but I've tried a lot of other combos and I'm really happy with this class.

I have a Paragon class that I'll respec further down the line, might go 33para/23champ/10 paladin [+10% or so with single hand damage, so 10% on each weapon]

From what I've gathered, it's a really rare reward that you can get from killing the final boss of the zone-wide death invasion events. There is a Lv20 version and a Lv50 version, but I have only seen the Lv20 one in-game so far.
