4 str on ygk assuming 200tp and assuming 3pdif (what do 2h cap at non crit now?) is about 20-30 extra damage..

idk, brutal should be giving you DA 5% of the time, so on average you should see an extra 1 DA for every 20 ws..

unless weapon skills DA proc rate is seperate from normal hits, shouldn't it be 1 DA every 20 hits rather then 20 ws? So if I hit 20 times and ws on say the 10th hit but ws either before or after a DA, the chance to DA becomes a lot lower. Also I think because YGK is 1 hit, DA occurs less often than say during rampage, penta, or even steel cyclone. idk maybe my DA shit is broken cuz on average I see DA proc on YGK about 1/30~40 with +17%. However, when using pole in merits, I see DA proc on penta about 1/15.
That's because YGK is 1 hit and penta is 5 hit
You expect DA proc 0.17 time of the time when you do YGK
When you do Penta, You expect your DA proc .17*5 = .85 time, assuming every hit is DA'ble without limitation

I've been pondering lately whether Hachiman Jinpachi is the best head piece for SAM WS.

VS shura kabuto you lose 2 STR but gain 2% DA rate on your WS and with Pole strap and Brutal earring I'm starting to wonder if it's worth the trade.

The HQ definitely is (trade 1 STR for 3% DA rate) but I don't see that in the near or distant future.

So, NQ jinpachi VS Shura Kabuto

2 STR or 2% DA

I'm leaning towards DA, thoughts?

Not a SAM, but I'd definitely go with the double attack, with the rest of that gear + WAR sub, you could double attack a WS a lot, and that will boost your damage a ton more than 2 STR will.
Latent effect of Hachiman doesn't proc on WS, do they? Otherwise the one who documented it was wrong

(pre-emptive note: for those who answered my last question, thanks for the advice. Turns out my friend decided to stay after he gave me the gil, so I had to give it back. I was more glad that he was staying than annoyed about gaining/losing 900k in one hour, but that was one hell of a ride nonetheless >_> oh well, I still have my Aquilo's /sigh)

Ok, here's my question: As you can see from my sig, my /BLM is pretty badly underleveled. I do plan on finishing it off eventually (even have a gear list to 37 and all my spells bought), but it doesn't seem very important at this point, and I don't want to put my RDM main on hold to do so. At the same time, I feel like a horrendous gimp. Which brings me to my point: Am I? I've gotten pretty far on /WHM, hell I've been asked to sub /NIN more often than /BLM (no, not for XP), and yet I just feel like half a RDM without my /BLM sub. Is it acceptable to wait until 70-75 to level it, or should I just bite the bullet, put down my staves, pick up some wands and go on a pet-slaughtering spree?

/BLM used to be the standard subjob for RDM back in the day, but with the advent of RDM main healing from about 55 on, its no longer required, let alone necessary.

I would say that for RDM in this day and age /WHM and /DRK are the main priorities for RDM subs.

Found this browsing back to find some questions I asked here. This bugs me. ToAU has been out for a year and a half now, people are still ridiculously in the dark about when/where/how to use rdm/blu and the benefits of doing so. At greater colibri camp for example, I went one party where by the time my convert was ready again, I almost always still had around 50% mp, with no resting at all.

So as far as this topic has gone, it sounds like the emphasis is on xp/meritting, so saying /drk is a main priority is odd at best, though I'm sure you're thinking more chainstun than xp with that. Only xp I've done rdm/drk was in manaburn parties in mount zhaylohm, which I've given up due to the ridiculous amounts of retarded that came out of blms in it.

And because it'd be proving myself wrong to assume everyone will read this and know exactly what I mean by "the benefits of" using rdm/blu, Healing Breeze caps out at 200 hp curaga with light staff. This is for 55 mp. Comparing that to curaga it's less than the cost of curaga 1, less than half of curaga 2 which you'd need to do 200 hp curaga. However, @ 55 mp you can just as easily compare it to Cure 3. So for 9 more mp than cure 3, you get cure 3 for everyone who needs it. Or you can use Wild Carrot, which is 37 mp, which calculates to Cure 3 cost with a permanent 25%~ conserve mp + not needing 46 mp to start the casting anyway. Then there's little bonuses like Resist Sleep/Undead traits and Queasyshroom's odd ability to wipe all utsusemi shadows hit or miss, definitely useful pulling/getting agroed by mamool nin mobs.

Basically the only people on my server I've ever even heard of doing rdm/blu or whm/blu are people I've told to try it out and still just the other day I did an assault (Dracula) where someone told the rdm to sub whm "cause we might need lots of curaga" and I said "well, do you have blu sub?" He did have it, said he levelled it specifically as a rdm sub, but still had no idea why I'd think /blu for curaga.

And yes, I'm well aware of losing status removal. Not all camps need it. If you need it, by all means go /whm.

Interesting. I did not realize /BLU is that handy for a curing subjob. But getting BLU spells on one character has been horrific enough. ;_;

The one catch to Healing Breeze is that it's AoE, but self-target only. So you need to run up to the party in order to effectively use it. But otherwise, yeah, very MP-efficient healing subjob, albeit without the status healing that you tend to want in most situations when you're doing that.

Well, colibri would be a prime situation where you wouldn't need status clears. But if that list of Scholar magic is as hot as it looks, I think that we have a new king healing sub.

Interesting. I did not realize /BLU is that handy for a curing subjob. But getting BLU spells on one character has been horrific enough. ;_;

You wouldn't need all of them. Generally what I set is:

Healing Breeze
Sheep Song (to combo for auto-regen)
Wild Carrot
Pollen (to combo for resist sleep)
Cocoon

and spells that give +MP:
Digest
Blood Drain
Soporific
Queasyshroom
Death Ray

Alternatively, use spells that give +mnd. Not sure if galka/taru might need that to hit 200 from Healing Breeze.

And about the self-target, range on it is 10, so it's not all that bad. Sometimes partying with a bard I end up with melee buffs, but when I'm saving as much mp as I do with healing breeze it never bothers me.

Speaking of mp saved, I really can't see /scholar offering something comparable to Healing Breeze. No way white grimoire is gonna reduce mp cost by 50%. I can see it replacing /whm but not /blu.

real quick question, a fast response would be greatly appreciated. im about to help a friend do 6-4, and have not done the fight in a very very long time. the last time i did it playing my own character(i tanked it as nin on a friends char last year to help him get the win b/c he couldnt be on the night his static was going), was in nov. of 05 or something and was on my rng.

tonight im going samurai, which is very well equipped and has at the moment, 4 merits in GKT. we will have a ninja tank, and we will have a bard, tho most likely song choices will be mambo and march or double mambo, so nothing favoring attack or accuracy. thus my questions are twofold:

1) what should i sub? my inclination is to sub warrior is it will improve my damage output substantially, plus having seigan and third eye will allow me to tank the mammets with little difficulty i would hope. the flip side of that is that third eye is unreliable, and tanking the mammets will be my job since we do the method where the ninja gains aggro but doesn't claim any mobs so he can be healed without hate. furthermore, third eye doesn't block magic attacks, but mammets also cast -aga spells, and utsusemi doesn't do dick for those. is subbing ninja to reduce my damage taken from the mammets and the aoes of ultima and omega worth the loss of berserk and double attack?

2) what food should i opt for? sole sushi or coeurl sub? the acc gear i have for the fight is the 4dex from voyager sallet, hauby +1, life belt, rajas/snipers and peacock charm. i'll be using a soboro unless after a fight or two it becomes clear that the tp given becomes more of a hassle than the damage taken.

thanks and sorry for the long post, just didn't want to create a new thread for this!

6-4 stuff

I did this fight about a month ago as samurai, what worked for me was:

1) Go /nin. No, the mammets wouldn't be hard to tank even without utsusemi, but since you'll be up close fighting Ultima/Omega, you're going to want shadows to absorb their AoE attacks they do. Going /war would probably mean taking hate from your tank; WHM cure bombing you would mean hate would be messy, and from my experience that's generally when U/O have the easiest time killing your party.

2) Hasso and all that accuracy gear you're packing is more than enough to eat meat. The gear I went in with was mostly borrowed NQ stuff and I was able to eat meat without any problems. You probably don't want to use your soboro either, both for hate management reasons and because U/O TP attacks are really, really nasty.

Basically you want to make the fight as safe as possible, rather than as fast as possible.

50 Drk leveling up now, will probably be used mostly in zerg fights. Which setup would be best with Rune Chopper?

1-Turban/Homam Body, Hands, Feet/Sable Cuisses/Swift/Blitz/BQ (+184 HP/25% haste/2.5% triple attack)

2-Turban/Gloom Breastplate/Homam Legs, Hands, Feet/Swift/BQ/Toreador (+192 HP/27% haste)

3-Turban/Gloom Breastplate/Homam Legs, Hands/Marine F Boots/Swift/Blitz/BQ (+211 HP/25% haste)

4-Chaos Burgeonet/Homam Body, Legs, Hands, Feet/Swift/Blitz/BQ (+180 HP/23% haste)

5-Something I'm not thinking of?

For reference I have all the gear above except the souleater pieces, my other slots will be filled with pole or axe grip/cassie earring/intruder or ethereal/gigant mantle/??? neck/something in ranged or ammo idk. Sorry if some of my math is off I've been up since 4am =\

I'm pretty sure the answer is 1 or 3, but which in your expierence is best? Thanks :)

So it's been a couple years since I've seriously played my RDM, and since I've recently decided to bring it back from the dead, I have a few questions regarding rings/earrings/ranged/hMP:

1) How have the ring setups changed? Do people still use MND/INT rings for enfeebles and switch to +MP for standing or something now?
2) Before it was 2x Morion and when the MND earrings were introduced, those as well. I'm slowly working up my ABCs for a Loq., but until then, what's good?
3) Phantom or Hedgehog?
4) Is not having a full hMP set (outside Houpp. and Dark Staff) frowned upon?
5) Staff Strap or the +INT/+MND one?

theo

These are just my personal experiences, opinions may vary.

1) Pretty much yes, I wear MP rings most of the time in merits, only swapping in MND rings if I'm casting Para or Slow. I don't even bother to carry INT rings anymore unless I feel like I might have to nuke something, which is uncommon lately. Some people like to use INT for Grav/Blind/Bind but I'm in the "don't think it makes a huge impact on those spells" crowd. If somebody has tests or proof though I'd be all over it.

2) My "standing" earrings are Loq and Magnetic for cures buffs etc. For enfeebling I have Enfeebling Earring + Geist Earring. I keep a Moldavite (and Wizard's if /BLM) handy as well, but then theres my previous statement about nukes so meh.

3) I use a Phantom personally, but I would be using Hedgehog if I had the money for it. I can't honestly see the 2 INT on Phantom adding up to anything useful.

4) I only have +20 in my resting set and it has be adequate so far. I don't find myself resting a whole lot on RDM anyway. The only time I've ever thought to myself "damnit I need to heal MP faster" is when I'm sleep/nuking stuff solo, which I don't do a whole lot anymore.

5) I use Raptor Strap +1 personally. I can see maybe using a Staff Strap for converting if you felt it warranted the inventory space. With WotG increasing personal inventory I can see a lot of new options opening up.

Hope at least some of that helps.

right, so...to answer my original question. Brutal for YGK, yay or nay?

1) How have the ring setups changed? Do people still use MND/INT rings for enfeebles and switch to +MP for standing or something now?

dont really need +mp for standing.. depends on your race I guess. RDM is all about equality for convert in merits, your max mp means diddly squat beyond that. i use mnd/int rings depending on spell, but then I dont need mp rings for convert.

2) Before it was 2x Morion and when the MND earrings were introduced, those as well. I'm slowly working up my ABCs for a Loq., but until then, what's good?

whatever you want, its all small fries. loq. for anything that isnt a debuff, stats otherwise. loq is really nice for convert, and there is also a +15 hp mp earring that is nice for convert too. Some people use enfeebling earring for hnms

3) Phantom or Hedgehog?

If you have to pick one, probably hedgehog. Swap between them if you have both.

4) Is not having a full hMP set (outside Houpp. and Dark Staff) frowned upon?

RDMs barely ever rest. I can honestly say I have never rested on RDM in a merit pt. That said, youll miss the +hmp badly when you DO have to rest.

5) Staff Strap or the +INT/+MND one?
Are you having enmity problems? Staff strap. Not having enmity problems? Raptor Strap. I use raptor.

Corsair SLugshot:

Alky/pallas vs. W. hands
(dont even get into the -agi means -modifier, the str is more than enough to boost the damage significantly)

Also, how are you setting up your Luzaf ring, corsair roll, Double up macros? I used to use 4 seperate ones but im basically out of space since hitting 70 last night.

and what body piece do you slug winder in? AF(+8 racc +2 agi), P. body(r. acc +10, increased crit) or black co.(Str+5 agi+5)?

Personally I would use W. Hands., W. Hands have a boost of +13ACC over the Alky, and a Boost of 4.5RATT. Yes the STR will probably do more damage on slug, but at a loss of 13ACC? No thanks on Slug.

For the body piece you would use, this again comes down to ACC. I personally would switch between AF and Black Cot. Depending on Food/Mob/etc. Your going to get the most damage out of Black Cot, but your again losing a lot of ACC in the slot. Just going to clarify that P. body's increased crit will do nothing for Slug.

A. Mantle +1, 3 reasons, STR+2, doesn't cost 150 coins, and lower level. The difference between 3 atk or 4 atk is trivial, but str and attack in a back slot is more worthwhile.

All of which can be affected by Subtle Blow, so for instance a BLU/NIN (10% SB) would give 9 TP per spell hit, and a NIN/DRK (25% SB, without additional gear) would give 7.5 TP per spell.

Mear or Sushi ?

PS2 : Anyway, what about Fuma Kyahan on Samurai ? The haste gain with Swift Belt and that is cool for the TP Gain ? Ty.

it depends on what level you are. frankly i wore federation kyahan from 25-70 until i replaced them with hachiman. at 75, your goal is to attain a 6 hit build, which can be done one of two ways, assuming you'll have 5/5 store tp merits, a rajas ring full time, and getting +1 from hopefully a brutal earring, but if you don't have sea, then at least a chiv chain, and using a 450 delay gkt. you can either wear dusk gloves for the 3% haste(and 5 attack), and hachiman sune-ate for the +5 store tp. your other option is to wear fumas for the 3% haste and wear hachiman kote. the tradeoff here is that you have less attack while building tp in the second set(unless of course you're super rich and awesome and have either usukane feet or dusk feet +1), but can weaponskill in feet like askar or rutters for more one more str during your ws, whereas in the first setup, which is the one i use personally, you have to leave the hachiman feet on during the weaponskill at the cost of one str.

if you're asking whether to wear fuma kyahan while leveling samurai, they don't certainly hurt when stacked with swift belt and hasso, and even moreso if you've got a whm/rdm on the ball hasting you and/or a brd giving you march, just make sure you swap your feet gear during weaponskill. at the time i was leveling samurai two years ago, they just weren't worth the pricetag, and were generally considered a nin only item, but if you've got em, and they work for you, they certainly won't hurt your performance.

10 tp if it does more than 0 dmg, 0 tp otherwise. pretty sure thats it.

That and physical blu spells do 10tp per hit that lands.

All of which can be affected by Subtle Blow, so for instance a BLU/NIN (10% SB) would give 9 TP per spell hit, and a NIN/DRK (25% SB, without additional gear) would give 7.5 TP per spell.

I know I've seen somewhere that people determined Subtle Blow had no effect on BLU spells.

To clarify, a nuke or DoT that does initail damage (bio/dia) will give 10tp, DoTs that cause no initial damge (frost/burn/poison) give 0 TP.

were you in a level capped area or somewhere that you did not lose xp? dying removes your lvl cap, then when you're raised restores it. when you get stood back up, your level cap re-instates and you lose all buffs (you didn't have any since you were dead) and all TP gained. i think salvage and assault may be doing this erroniously too, but don't quote me on that.

VIT/HP is worthless, Arhats+1 is the best -physical head.
As for rings, shits situational, I used Sattva/Mermaid, Jelly for physical macro, Mermans for magic macro, and BQ for max HP that I never bothered with.

Actually, some where out in the ether of the interweb someone tested this and found that they were pretty close to identical in the amount of damage they reduced. At that point the secondary benefits factor in, enmity vs. HP.

Shit is situational.

For THF

TAWS and SAWS: Dragon harness or Heca Harness? Meat = Heca and sushi = dragon maybe?

8/8 Dagger merits and eat meat 95% of the time, so not sure if this will exactly apply to you, but:

TA + DE and SA + DE, I use Hecatomb Harness.

TA + SB and SA + SB, I use Dragon Harness.

Some argue DE in Dragon Harness is ideal, but the slight dmg boost from the DEX/AGI/Att seems trivial in multi-hit WS when the Hecatomb Harness provides a nice Acc boost (on top of a large chunk of STR). So, you'll reach a higher dmg cap with Dragon Harness, but if you're using meat, Hecatomb Harness is the way to go.

And yes, you "should" have two different WS macros for both DE and SB.

there's no difference between accuracy down and evasion down in terms of effect, if that is what was meant - they both reduce accuracy.

as for evasion vs evasion skill, the logical conclusion now that we know the formula for accuracy to hit rate is that evasion and evasion skill work similarly; that is, probably 1 evasion for every evasion skill before 200, and 0.9 evasion for every evasion skill over 200. Since evasion and accuracy have a linear effect on hit rate, it would seem to make sense that they work equally in their respective parts of that function. I've never seen any parsing of evasion vs evasion skill, however, and certainly not since the hit rate formula came to be known.

DE for merits and normally for damage, SB and EV situational (lolSkillchain). This is because it's five hit with higher damage multipliers than EV, which makes it the best THF WS which can be popped out when you hit 100TP without waiting for SA or TA timers.

The other two can be decent stacked, SB in my experience pulls out higher damage when stacked than does EV - probably because of the higher damage multiplier and 50% dex mod.

hit rate = (total accuracy - total evasion)*.5% + (attack lvl - defender lvl)*2%

total accuracy is calculated as dex/2 + accuracy from gear + accuracy from skill

accuracy from skill is 1 accuracy per skill up to 200 skill, and 0.9 accuracy per skill per skill over 200.

conversely, the assumption now is that total evasion = agi/2 + evasion from gear + evasion from skill, where evasion from skill is 1 evasion per skill below 200skill, and 0.9 per skill over 200. for example, if you have 250 evasion skill, from that you get 200+0.9*50=245 evasion.

again, this is just speculation, but it makes logical sense.

EDIT2: Oh and if 2 INT makes any difference, I do have a Prudence Torque to use as well as Elemental.

I manually equip uglypeople pendant. It's pretty easy if you just set your CTRL+E thing over the neck slot. Ugg Pendant is at the top of the list so 2 quick presses of enter and it's on. (Now actually I don't have a Prudence Torque so I don't know if it comes before Ugg )

As far as Obi go, I have this one macro that I use for different stuff.. It changes all the time. Sometimes it puts on Magic burst gear, sometimes an Obi if I am somewhere with on and off weather. For days I just edit my macros. I leave them open so it takes about 5 sec to alt tab and add or remove a few "/".

Just find w/e works for you

I have a separate macro for Pendant. Tier 4 spells are slow enough casting to where you can hit 5 macros and still get all your gear swaps before they land. As far as obis go, I have a staff macro for every element that is

Staff
Waist
Legs
Grip

and another macro with obi waist equip lines and AF2 leg equip line. When day or weather conditions come up, I copy/paste the appropriate lines from the obi macro into the staff macro of that element. If you're the kind of person who casts spells off the menu, you could put a cast line in that macro as well. I have a different macro for other gear like head/body/hands/ear/feet/neck and hit both (and latent macro) every cast, although if you use windower macro you can always leave the waist and legs out of the file and use ingame lines for those.

Level my DRK sub for RDM at the moment, which weapon should I use?

Great Sword: I have it at around 50 skill from PLD.
Great Axe: Should be fully capped from leveling WAR to 37.
Scythe: I haven't had a reason to touch this yet, it's at 0.

Scythe will obviously lag behind for a while, since I'm gaining XP so fast that the skill level can't possibly keep up. It should eventually catch up though, right? Shield Break is also really nice at early levels, once I get it. But Scythe is more fun (I don't know why, it just is) and everyone loves an A+ skill. Which should I pick? Great Sword doesn't really enter the equation, as far as I can tell, but maybe I'm wrong.

Great Axe. Sturmwind is just that good. You can also equip the warrior subjob latent effect +5 great axe skill at level 30, for even more awesome.

Yuri-G

That makes sense, I forgot about the belt (which would make Great Axe skill higher than Scythe at 30, duh) and how pimp Sturmwind can be.

Thanks for the reply.

I think it's 82 or 83, but I can't remember for sure.

And the Guild NPCs aren't crap for finding synth levels. I hope you realize they list synths in level order. Meaning if you check the level of the synths directly above and below it, you'll find out what level the synth is within 1 level.

most hits were 550-650 and peak was 909 on a double attack, I wasn't using 'zerk or hasso because of ninja "tank".

which is why your number make me sad - I haven't had a chance to go out post-nerf but I would assume I'll make numbers similar to yours.

Just loaded FFXI on my new desktop and I'm having an odd problem....When I went to change the controls for targeting (I'm used to compact, this is full) I couldnt get the left/right target select to work. At first, I thought it was just a control problem but then I figured out that I can't target anything. Not only can I not target anything, no NPCs are showing up for me to target. I was at Tele-dem when I logged in so I thought i could test on the tele-point but I can't even select it. Also, I did get a slight glimpse at another PC as he teleported away. I can /c <player name> just fine and see their gear, but I didn't test /ta <player name>. Any ideas?

Also, my buttons are all screwed up for some reason. They're clearish when they shouldn't be. I believe I had this same problem on my laptop but can't remember what I did.

Level 1 Paralyze II.... is this spell basically the same as a Paralyze in effect, unless it is upgraded to level 2 or 3? Just wondering if anybody else has noticed that it isn't really that hot.

In terms of Para II, I seem to remember reading something along the lines of "A level 1 Paralyze II will be the same as a perfectly struck Paralyze I." I can't recall if that was in the update notes or a dev interview, I'm sorry for the ambiguity, but that statement sticks out very clearly in my mind. I'll see if I can't find where I read that.

Turtle - tav taco

perhaps to use the scrolls on a low lv job?Miratete's Memoirs is level 20, and the lower limit for exp in Campaign Ops is 10. I don't remember if a limit was mentioned for Campaign Battle, but I would assume that's level 10 also. So you could actually get exp sooner from WotG areas than exp scroll quests, assuming you can figure out a way to build up points on a level 10 character in Campaign Battle (can just buy reraisers with AN). This is something I've been meaning to test.

What's the lowest level character anyone has taken to Campaign Battle, and how well did you do, rewards-wise?

Keep in mind: most of the values on equipment are rounded. FFXI works these in 256ths, so "20%" reduction on Earth Staff is really probably 51/256, meaning you'd be sliiiiiightly under the actual -50% cap with "-50%" in gear.

increasingly, it looks like it's actually 512'ths (haste is definitely 512's for instance). although beyond that your logic is the same. (earth staff is probably 102/512 for instance)

my question: is -damage gear treated as -phys and -magic damage gear for the purposes of damage reduction caps? (obviously there isn't enough -damage gear to test the independent cap of the stat yet)

It counts as both and doesn't go beyond the pre-established cap for both. D ring's "damage -10%" doesn't reduce beyond shell 5 and aegis's "magic damage %-", for instance.

It depends on the scenario, if the wtf-kind-of-set-up-is-that-freaking-retard-trying-to-build pt was there 1st, and the BLM got there 2nd and still decide to camp there, the BLM is retarded. If the BLM is there 1st, and that wth party came 2nd, the wth party is retarded to camp there, as there are better camp even for that wth setup, so why kill the EXP of someone already camping there when they could get something better? For example: D-A-H-A-K.

On a side note, anyone who go with a party of more than 3 people on flan for merit is the most retarded. Flan is a solo-small party camp, anyone needing a full party to merit there really need to get TFO.

The ones that you kill when you want to farm for other organs. It's just like trying to farm for coffer keys, they never drop when you want them.

is that the penitent's rope bc?

if so, whm/blm, blm/whm, and nin, whm ele seal silence, gets stuck on burst, they kill it, you win.

I have done it with WHM/BLM, NIN/WAR, and WAR/NIN. I tended to die a lot on WAR/NIN because even at level 60 it is hard to contain my awesome.

Also, don't e-seal silence. Most WHMs can get it to stick the first time, and once it goes unsilenced it will only cast Burst. (At least that is how it was when I did it.)

eseal silence just guarantees you get stuck on burst is all :)

You only need to land silence to make sure it gets stuck on burst, silence that lands for half a second is better than one with a good duration.

Once he gets into the burst -> petri breath -> melee combo, he'll almost never get tp for anything besides petri breath.

If you get stuck with silence never wearing off, you risk seeing charged whisker which can be nasty.

Also, do not not not paralyze it, if anything interrupts burst(melee can't) he'll use charged whisker instead of petri breath. Charged whisker is ~400+ AoE damage and wipes shadows.

Good luck, rope drop rate is 2/3 in my experience.

There have been times when the extra MP would have been nice, but never necessary, so I've felt I could make that upgrade as one of my last big ones. plus I just like the names of the HQ staves

Hiya Corin!

V.Cloak is a luxury item for Rdm. Don't worry about getting it unless you have nothing better to get. That being said, Stay on track with the HQ Staves you plan to get. The benefit of them is worth the investment. In the event you downgrade staves, don't sell Pluto's since Sleep is one spell you never want to see resisted (unless you're Nin/Drk tanking and it doesn't matter).

I don't know if I would stay in that setup. It wouldn't be horrible, but you'd be much better off with a Brd instead of the Pld. Plus you're Rdm, you're allowed to be picky :p

From the testing in those other threads, proper gorget adds 0.1 fTP and at least 10 accuracy to the first hit, so really gorget should win over any other currently available gear for one hit WS.

if so, where can i get it?

I think as long as your account was created before July this year (not sure about the month) you'll be able to get it if you didn't during the original event. Just go to one of the Moogles in the main towns to get it. I think it's Festive Moogle, but not sure. In San d'Oria, it would be one of the Moogles just outside Port Sandy MH.

Wind weather doubles their aggro/link radius. Learned that the hard way when we tried to weaken LBC with wind weather up. BRD pulls the first gear, "shit" and the other two warp away.

If they decide to be twitchy, I tend to lose them (run out of time); they wear down very slowly.

They're far from impossible, however, and enough of them do seem to make it to the AH. Though I suspect most of those are used up trying for Nereid Rings.

What was the deal with getting three chests from the Ashu Talif #3? You have to fight the Imps far away from the room so the captain doesn't hear them, and you have to tag the captain without the monkey seeing you? Is it more complicated than that, and does Cannonball work for pulling the captain?

First : you have to "sneak attack" the imps, that is, actually land a melee attack from behind them (they aggro truesight) to lock Bubbly (the monkey) running back and forth instead of around the whole room, also locks the Captain in place facing away from you. If you do this getting 3 chests becomes much easier, however this is not 100% required, it's just INCREDIBLY difficult to pull the captain without him / bubbly seeing you if you don't.

Secondly : the Captain. I have not tried with a blu using cannonball, however what we did worked 100% (helped if it was at night since I was on NIN). You approach as close as you can to the captain / bubbly without being in aggro range of the monkey, make sure you're already engaged, then wait for the right time when bubbly turns to run away from the captain, run in and smack him before bubbly can see you. I don't know if it HAS to be "land a melee attack on his back without him or bubbly seeing you" but I do know for sure that provoke and magic pulling do NOT work (he aggros magic). Oh... I just answered my own question  Cannonball would not work because he aggro's magic casting :o There's your answers, hope this helps.

Sash, between those two. Assuming no other mdef or MDB, sash is slightly better than the belt anyway, since it's an exact 2% reduction vs. a 1.96% from belt. However, mdef gear gets more and more effective until the cap, while MDB gets less and less, so shell and other gear will only widen the gap between them. :bastok:

Edit: Sorry, you know what, that's kinda wrong, since it'd likely be a 5/256 or 1.95% base reduction from the sash. However, since you won't be shell-less and otherwise naked, the sash is still better in practice, for the same reasons I indicated.

Been hearing that AGI doesn't play a big role in shield blocks. I know the size does (larger the shield, less the blocks), but then I see this

Many Paladins believe that Agility effects Shield Skill in some way but after experience of many Paladins that I know we have found that if it does effect Shield Skill it is too small to make a difference.
Source (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Paladin:_Guide_to_Weapons_and_Armor)

Is this a correct statement and AGI plays a very tiny role in shield block, or is this just random nonsense? :?

Edit: Might as well toss this in here since I didn't see it with search.

Started leveling PLD a few weeks ago and so far I'm loving it, but I have a few questions on how I should be gearing. For the most part, I've been doing it like I would a DD job (I have SAM, DRK & THF @75) and Ive been getting some shit from a few PLDs that I know for not turtling with def/vit/hp gear. Here's gear setup as of Lv.34:

http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/6805/pldgearlz6.png
(Head-Cache-nez, Hands-Battle gloves, R2-Shikaree~In case those could be other things)

I've just been eating Meat mithkabobs, but a friend brought me out a few Tacos the other night and they weren't so bad. I'm thinking about using dorado sushi when I get closer to 40. I currently have 2 merits in shield and I'm working on getting the last 2 before I hit 40. I also have sword, eva, and parry capped for the level and I've made sure to keep shield capped as I level. I've had ZERO trouble keeping hate in ALL of my parties so far so I tend to think that what I'm doing is at the very least ok.

As far as future plans for gearing the job: Buckler earring next level, Swift belt/Sentinel shield/Ulthalam's ring @ 50, Haub @ 59, C.Chain @ 60, Shield Torque @ 65, going to make getting a Joy before I ding 70 high priority, Foragers @71 (though gear swapping would fuck high breath mantle-Suggestions?), dusk/supp./ethereal(getting it before I level to 72) @ 72, brutal/turban @75 and I'm sure I'm missing some other misc. WS macro gear.

So am I doing this completely wrong? Should I leave my DD mentality at the door and grab myself some different gear? Of course shit is situational, but I don't see vit/def/hp helping me more than haste/acc/atk/str. Am I underestimating VIT/DEF?

Oh, and :cake: for anyone that replies.

Edit: Also, currently I don't do any HNM activities. So, giving me gear advice for Faf or some shit really won't apply. Right now I'm just talking exp. When/if I start using PLD in HNM/Gods/wyrms/etc, I'll be sure to look around because from what I can tell that a totally different thing.

PLD stuff
PLD not 75 (58 atm), but I can share my experiences.

Head: I used Kampf, but enmity+ thing is fine/better.
Hands: Used Eisen/Kampf.. but Battle Gloves ok too.
Ammo: Used Happy Egg, but ammo doesn't really matter.
Everything else is what I used except for Spike (PCC), but Spike is fine.
Food: Don't use tacos if you want defense. You aren't getting the full benefit and might actually be losing def compared to other foods. I used Boiled Crayfish -> Boiled Crab -> Steamed/Boiled Crab -> Fish Mithkabob.

Boiled Crab
30 min
Vitality +2
Defense +27% (Cap: 50@185 Base Defense)

Steamed Crab
60 min
Vitality +3
Defense +27% (Cap: 55@203 Base Defense)

Fish Mithkabob
30 min
Dexterity +1
Vitality +2
Mind -1
Defense +25% (Cap: 90@360 Base Defense)

Fish Chiefkabob
60 min
Dexterity +1
Vitality +2
Mind -1
Defense +25% (Cap: 95@380 Base Defense)

Tavnazian Taco
30 min
HP +20
MP +20
Dexterity +4
Vitality +6
Agility +4
Charisma +4
HP Recovered While Healing +1
MP Recovered While Healing +1
Defense +25% (Cap: 150@600 Base Defense)
So as you see, Taco doesn't really help you defense wise compared to other foods until you get into the 350~ def range.

Also, I tend to lean towards Enmity -> Acc -> Rest when gearing. I ditched the Rajas for a Mermaid's later on.

As for the "DD vs Turtle".. it comes down to preference. Exp location would also affect it. I wouldn't want to be DDing Boyahda spiders, Sickle Slash did 700 to me at 50-51 in turtle set. People will still wtf at you if you don't turtle it up though.

Not high enough PLD for the "High Breath vs DD mantle" debate, but I'd test the waters in your party first. If you hold hate easy: DD mantle. Issues? HB. Besides, the mob doesn't need to be on you 100%. It is nice if it is but you can always cure/cover other PT members for hate.

My gear at 58 if you care:
Weapon: Gluttony
Shield: RK Army
Ammo: Happy Egg/Tiphia Sting
Head: AF
Neck: Parade/PCC
Ear1: Mercenary [Insomnia for resting]
Ear2: Buckler
Body: SH+1 [Pilgrim Tunica for resting]
Hands: AF
Ring1: Woodsman
Ring2: Mermaid
Back: High Breath
Waist: Life Belt/Warrior's Belt+1 (I'd like a Swift Belt for Flash actually) [Qiqirn Sash for resting]
Legs: AF
Feet: AF
Food: Fish Mithkabob (ok so I'm using Steamed/Boiled Crab til I finish up my stacks :?)

No, you can only skillup anything that the main job has naturally, as SAM and DRK do not have native shield skill, you cannot skillup your shield on them. So either skillup on THF(somehow..), or just skillup in EXP, shouldn't have much problem with capping shield skills unless you get PL(ie you are not tanking 100%), or you are eating EXP scrolls up.

*sigh* That's what I figured. Currently skilling on chigoes in caedarva thf/pld with +24 skill over natural cap wish I had bought a shield torque as I'll need one eventually.

Looked in search but I can't seem to find what I'm after. Friend was talking about getting some voyager sallets but we don't have SMNs. So I'm curious how the sac pull method works with..say rdm mnk thf. We have other jobs/people available as well so if you have another strategy so that would be fine. I have no experience with the NM before so I'm not really sure how the hate works after a sac pull.

They have party hate and they all link when you pull one. I'm not sure if they actually share hate or not though. The theory is you pull one and sleep the rest, and kill one at a time. Possibly wiping once or more (and don't RR until everyone in your alliance has died or they'll kill you again because of party hate).

Aero II will drop an Invincible'd PLD in a few seconds, btw.

I've noticed that in the Brothers ENM the Mindertaur occasionally moves very slowly, and other times it moves at normal speed. Is there anything in particular that triggers this?

Leeto

Is the mindertaur the big one? if it is, he moves amazingly slow when he's above 60% but will get a bit faster after that point.

Mindertaur moves at normal speed until Eldertaur dies, then he moves at that superslow speed until either a certain amount of time has passed or a certain % of life is taken, not sure which but the above poster said it's damage so I'd go with that. Not sure if Eldertaur would work the same if you'd kill Mindertaur first because I never have.

what exactly are the spawn conditions of Carmine-tailed Janberry? the Asklepios NM. cleared the room where fraudopedia said the PH were and not a pop for 2 hours. very sure 0 people were in the zone.. If its just a lotto pop then it could be 5centuries before it pops {hi2u pre patch thf knife nm}..

is sacrarium fomor codex drop rate higher or lower then aqueducts? wanna know if any diff before i go to farm~I seemed to get them more quickly in Phomiuna Aqueducts, and it was the same with almost everyone I talked to, but we were soloing as /THF. If you can get TH2 happening in the Sacrarium, then maybe it's better. The main problem with Sacrarium is that most jobs are only going to have access to 2 spawns instead of 3 most of the time.

Is there a website anywhere with a comprehensive listing of food effects that won't try to install a trojan on my computer?

somepage doesn't have the trojan any more, and it was only on the front page anyway, nor was it a risk to anyone using firefox.

http://ffxi.somepage.com/itemdb/food.php if you dont want to go via the front page, but it hasn't been updated in a fair while.

Fiancee is finishing War to 75soon, should have the IS for Perdu Voulge. Worth it or get something else? (Speaking in terms of merits/sky/dynamis/random events; no HNM)
Someone else said Berserkers for 300TP Steel Cyclone?

http://www.mysterytour.biz/ffxi/ has a pretty nicely organized food section, separated by their primary stat i.e. Attack, Accuracy, HP, INT, etc.

Problem is so few taurs in Sacrarium. We actually find that codex drops far more often in Aqueducts. Soloing is prolly easier in Sacrarium.

well, that's not entirely true. there's always the taurus death room. ^^ for those who don't know, if you keep going straight after the 2 key door instead of turning right, you'll run into a door. open it and there's a huge number of taurus (never stuck around to look) inside the room, poised to aggro anyone who dares enter it.

In an old gear thread I seen a PLD with a club equipped. Anyone know which club a PLD would use and why?
