I want to give them to you
Oh man, that was awesome! As a fan of Metal Gear Solid, today's trailer is indeed an important, pivotal and a bit sad moment. It is likely to be the last Kojima-edited Metal Gear Solid trailer for the last Kojima-made Metal Gear Solid game. The man sure does know how to go out with a bang.
I don't think it's possible for any fan of the series to not shed a tear at the beginning sequence, which is essentially a remembrance of the series up until this moment. The theme chosen is superb. It is also a goodbye.
So you can see
Much has been said about the Konami-Kojima dilemma but as it stands the legendary creator will leave the company after this game. Even if Konami retains the rights to the franchise and/or characters, whatever they can come up with in the future will never reach the level of artistry Kojima imbued his games with.
And that starts with trailers. Every trailer edited by Kojima is a rollercoaster. Fans of the saga know that when he releases a trailer, it's gonna be good. Compare, if you will, with this recently released trailer that was not credited to him:
This is a more "hollywood" and "dude bro" trailer, more fit for a Call of Duty than a Metal Gear. For fans of the series, comparing this with brilliant teasers from years past... this is bland as it gets.
What we left
Remember the roots, before you move to the future... which will eventually return to the past. Will this "close" the saga? We don't know. All we know is that the game looks promising, it's getting rave reviews and will basically be both the best Metal Gear and a proper send off for the legendary saga.
"What goes around comes around".
Game on.
