BG Newsletter #2

Rate this Entry

Our second week of this newsletter and I am very excited to bring you guys the latest news for this week! I'm going to test new ideas slowly and see how they go over with everyone. If I don't think that people are enjoying the new additions I'll swap them with new ones. Additionally if I feel like they are big hits of course they can stay. Don't worry. If your idea is not immediately used this doesn't mean I didn't read it or I'm not going to try it. For now I am introducing things slowly, maybe 1 or 2 new ideas each week to see the response. Also, if your idea isn't well received, I can still bring it back for special editions that happen every now and then if I feel it's still a good idea.

New Sections Added
Question of the Week: Originally I thought to have people pm me but I think we can keep the discussion rolling in the comments section. Just highlighting an opinion or two would be a waste for all the other great comments I would have for the question of the week. I will pick either the most creative answer or maybe interesting to notate on the next newsletter. :)
Random Comic: For the comic section I will go get advice and browse around for comics. None of them have to be current but I will try to locate multiple comics across the internet so we can experience a bunch of them.

Before we get into releases let's get into our second interview with a BGer!

BG Member Of The Week: IceSylph

Q. How long have you been a part of BG?
A. Probably since around ~2007, maybe a little bit earlier than that.

Q. What is your favorite video game and why is it your favorite?
A. Final Fantasy IX. The game went back to the medieval setting, which is my favorite setting for an RPG game. The characters were very thought out and each had a lesson to teach to other party members or just in general.

Q. Let's face it, while BG is a lot of things, it is pretty well known for Final Fantasy. Do you have a favorite Final Fantasy character?
A. Probably either Zidane or Squall.

Q. What's something you find interesting about yourself?
A. iLift

Q. Do you have any fun plans coming up that you want to share? Or maybe something memorable that happened this summer?
A. I lost my job, founded #teamswole and became a stay-at-home bodybuilder son.

Being healthy, getting fit... I can admire that!
I'm excited about the new releases coming up...

Major Game Releases Arriving Next Week:

ArcheAge

Release Date: 09/16/2014
PC

We already have a thread going on ArcheAge:
http://www.bluegartr.com/threads/100...l?goto=newpost

Mina: While it is a Korean MMO I have to say that normally I go in with expectations of grinding and that I will come out bored within a few hours of it. ArcheAge manages to escape from this somehow. I will warn everyone ahead of time this is a full open-world PVP Korean MMO. Some of that may scare you off and I suggest reading the thread or watching some gameplay videos first. Additionally due to how every new MMO is, as long as you aren't concerned about housing (which costs real money) and just want to enjoy the PvP experience it might be a good idea to wait out a week or two. Like every MMO launch ever, it's probably crazy.
Sonomaa: I wouldnt say Im terrifyingly interested in it since Im stuck with FFXIV right now but it looks SOOOO pretty and what Ive seen of it looks top notch. I have bad experiences with korean MMOs though so if I try it it wont be at launch.
(BGer of the Week) IceSylph: Indifferent towards it. It looked pretty cool, but I'm not really a fan of modern MMO's really. FFXI is the only MMO I've been able to really get into.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call
http://images.bluegartr.com/bucket/g...4ce95bb12f.jpg
Release Date: 09/16/2014
3DS

It's final fantasy so you know we already got a thread for this one!:
http://www.bluegartr.com/threads/118...y-Curtain-Call

Mina: Final Fantasy + music can never be bad, right? I'm really tempted to get this... There's a song out there for everyone and the content is interesting. I don't know if it's enough to keep me occupied but maybe if I catch it on its first round of price cuts I'll heavily consider actually getting it. I think for anyone who bought the first Theatrhythm this game is an automatic buy because of how well received the first one was.
Sonomaa: It looks interesting, art style looks pretty cute, I might try it when its cheaper, never really been into music games that much.
(BGer of the Week) IceSylph: It's just not my type of game. Final Fantasy is my favorite series, however I'm not really into the gameplay. The music though is great.

Fairy Fencer F
http://images.bluegartr.com/bucket/g...39811fb6aa.png
Release Date: 09/16/2014
PS3

Mina: Gosh, it's a NIS game and not only that... one I know nothing about... All I know is it's a turn-based RPG... with lots of fanservicey sort of art available on the internet. I am a big fan of this Harley character... hmm... yes... Lots of... boob jiggling. In all seriousness, it is made by Compile Heart which is your Record of Agarest and Hyperdimension Neptunia games. I'm feeling that this is probably more or less closer to the Hyperdimension games judging from the videos I've watched. This is good to me because holy smokes, Record of Agarest is not a game I would recommend. I think the HN games are pretty well made but my gripe with them was always I felt like I was playing some eroge looking game (they aren't) with buttloads of puns (well they do). What I think Fairy Fencer F does is probably takes itself more seriously than HN which is neither a bad or good thing but probably something I would be more likely to want to play. Unfortunately this is just from a cursory glance so I will probably wait until it launches and I see actual reviews to make a judgement call on this one. (Also does anyone see Kirito and Asuna in this box art cause I know I DO)
Sonomaa: I wasnt really that interested in it until I learned about turn based, which is something I adore. Going to keep my eye on it.
(BGer of the Week) IceSylph: I watched 2 trailers for it, it looks different...

Question of the Week: Name a cartoon character that you found interesting as a kid. Detail out why (can either be from the perspective as an adult or as a child).

Just to give you an idea of how this will run next week...
Previous Question: What do you think of the BG Newsletter?

This is a comic from XKCD. Even though his art style may be lacking to some--it is met with wit and intelligence. He describes it as "A webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math, and language." That's about right!

That hurricane infographic/comic is fascinating. As a recent transplant to Florida, I'm still talking about tropical storm Debby (two years ago), as it was my first storm of that nature.

So I answer the question here? Okay, here goes:

As a kid, I was in love with Slimer from the Ghostbusters cartoons. My brothers and I would get up every morning and watch the show, and I'd laugh at Slimer's antics. I can barely remember why I was so obsessed with him. Maybe it was because he was the comic relief, the friendly ghost that came around sliming everyone and everything. I'll always remember the rest of the team yelling at him for getting his green goo everywhere. My brothers and I had the whole firehouse set, complete with all of the action figures. Good times. That's really (sadly) all I can really remember from that show, it was so long ago.

I was actually curious how accurate that image was from XKCD. He's usually spot on with his graphs. I haven't lived on the east cost (well recently texas now but I'm not really there on the coast).

I always thought Jubilee from the x-men was interesting as a kid but not in a positive way. I watched the animated series growing up and always wondered why the teenager with the ridiculous yellow firefighter coat was running around with glitter powers that seemed all but worthless in the grand scheme of things. And with as many mutants as there are in the x-men it's awonder I remember a character like her and every tiny facet about her character development. In terms of the animated series, she's the robin to wolverine's batman.

Garfield was always my favorite cartoon/comic as a kid (still really like it) namely to his sarcastic dont care attitude and subtle wit.
I always got a kick out of it when he said someone needed to be drug out into the street and shot.

Re: the XKCD graphic, it's pretty neat. Although some of them are so old, I don't know if enough people in those areas would still remember them. Tbh, from Florida's west coast, I remember Andrew and only Andrew. Dat shit was televised, and the destruction was pretty crazy.

I'll get back to you about the cartoon character! I loved my cartoons as a kid, hard to pick one and explain it.

I managed to get my copy of curtain call on Saturday. Been fun as hell so far and I'm enjoying all the music as I'm a huge fan of it. Still unlocking some of the movie ones but the field and battle themes remain good. Garuda's from XIV is there and I play it FAAARRRRR too much.

MAN! I just bought the Theatrhythm as well this week and I've been playing it like crazy.... At first I thought it was just going to be an easy rhythm game but... lol... One attempt at the hardest difficulty... hahaha...

I think I may have a card collecting addiction problem with the game too. MUST GET ALL PREMIUMS.

One character that does come to mind from my childhood is Amara (which I later learned is actually Haruka) from Sailor Moon. I remember watching the show early mornings on UPN with my sis. It was my 2nd foray into JP animation. Amara was very different from the other sailor scouts (soliders). This was back then in 1995/96. At the time I was 9/10 yrs old still in elementary in the 3rd/4th grade. I was unaware of cross dressing/lesbians/homosexuality. The only thing I knew that came anywhere close to that would be tomboys.

Amara dressed differently, had an awesome car, and always looked cool cause she hung out with her cousin (lol) a lot. Now the reason I bring her up is cause later in life I've seem to have grown interested in women with similar characteristics as Amara: women with short hair, choker wearing, tomboyish, tall (leggy), charming, affectionate, and flirty. This would later evolve into me having a liking for weird and/or fucked up girls.

This BG newsletter seems like a great idea. I look foward to more of this Mina~
