Noah winces after each crack of the hobgoblins across the dismantled door.

"What's going on," Noah asks turning his head slightly in order to view behind him out of the corner of his eye, "did that Half-elf have something to do with this? Monsters assaulting a tavern and of all the nights of the year..."

He flashes his head back at the scene upon hearing another crack as the last Hobgoblin crosses the threshold.

"Looks like we've got no choice. I'll be right behind you, Variz."

    Spoiler: show
    Noah's Initiative Roll [Tavern:Hobgoblins] (1d20=4)
Can I heal that poor guy, Westly? Sounds like he got torn up and my character would probably want to focus on throwing him a heal while Variz and Somoe fight a bit. I'm not really sure this being my first ever D&D campaign and all if something like that is allowed.

    Spoiler: show
You can't heal dead people. (I feel deliciously evil saying that)

But yeah, normally, you could heal him. Considering your situation, it isn't possible. He's out of reach and out of sight. And, yeah, dead. Poor Westly.

You guys are not surprised. That whole introduction allowed you guys to grab your stuff and put on your battle faces.

I think Rangers draw both weapons at minor actions. If I'm mistaken, then I just house rule it otherwise, since it would only make sense that they are able to since it functions as one weapon. That is my working understanding of it. But you are not surprised, so no concerns.

Sorry for lateness btw. And poor quality. I need to find a program for this stuff. This map is a bit bigger than normal so your tokens are pretty small. (Magus, you are the brown haired guy)

Anyway that large thing in the middle is a two-faced fire place(with a large chimney in the middle). Aside from the chimney it is lower enough so you can see across it, but can't walk over it.

Those thick white bar are doors. The thin blue sheets are windows. That black line over the table represents it has been tipped over and grants cover like a short wall.

Within the tavern itself are dozens of people who are terrified. Some have climbed under tables or ran for the back door. The three gamblers are to your right and Dentan plus another bartender and behind the bar. I didn't both to give them tokens since it would have clogged up the map.

The three men playing cards look at the hobgoblins with fear, but then simultaneously stare down at their collected money. They pick up their chairs and keep their backs to the wall. They won't leave as long there is money on the table.

Dentan looks panicked and Variz's command is lost within the loud chaos that has consumed the tavern. Four of the patrons have picked up chairs, bottles, or knives to defend themselves. The hobgoblins have not yet noticed your table and are eying nearby patrons instead.

    Initiative:
    Somoe- 15
Variz - 14 (You won a coin toss to go before them)
Hobgoblins- 14 (Hobgoblin A, B, C, and D, from top left to lower right in that order)
    Hammer- 13
    Noah- 4
    Patrons- 0

Somoe climbs onto the table and shouts at the others, "How terrible! Quickly! Don't just stand there, do something!" She doesn't attack, still playing the part of the damsel in distress for now, but gets her dagger and orb ready but hidden within the folds of her oversized robe.

    Spoiler: show
Move to B-9, minor action x2 to draw implement/weapon

    HP:20
    AP:2

Hammer gets up without a word, runs to the lead Hobgoblin and clocks him across the helmet with his hammer, then readies himself for their counterattack.

    Spoiler: show
moves to G-4 and then charges to K-6 to attack Hobgoblin @ L-5
Basic Melee Attack vs. AC (+1 for charge) (1d20+8=21, 1d10+5=11)

Also, unless otherwise noted, assume I choose to mark any enemy I attack with Hammer unless specifically noted

    Spoiler: show
can I make a perception check to see which of the goblins are the leader or at least the one barking orders? Also which skill is used for monster knowledge check on hobgoblins? If it's nature, I'd like to make a check on that as well, here are the roll result for both checks http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1701764/

Variz brandishes his swords, make his move to the fireplace, and set his glare on one particular hobgoblin.

    Spoiler: show
Movement action to G-8, Minor Action to set Hunter's Quarry to Hobgoblin @ L-5, Use the standard action to perform active perception check on the Hobgoblin's behavior if it's relevant HP: 30, Action Points: 2

    Spoiler: show
    Hobgoblins are Nature.

Variz, from what you see they seem to treat each other as equal peers, not taking or giving commands. They are just doing their own thing.

You don't remember any important details about hobgoblins.

    EDIT:

The Hobgoblins still do not pay any of you any mind. Hobgoblin A(the one Hammer is targeting and Variz used Hunter's Quarry on) throws a nasty taunt at Dentan. Hobgoblin B and C move to chase after a crying bar wench. (B moves to J-7, C moves to J-6). Hobgoblin D slashes at a patron armed with a chair, critically injuring him, but it would appear not killing him.

Hobgoblin A smiles deviously while yelling "...And when I'm done wit' you, I'm going after yer' wife!" to Dentan. He lets out a laugh. He notices a charging Warforged with hammer ready in hand a moment too late. "Eh, whats this now?" he looks on with a dumb smile lifting his sword up in the air. Hammer swings his weapon and crushes the Hobgoblin's skull in one solid hit. Blood pours out of his mouth, nose, and ears before he falls through a chair.

Hobgoblin B and C suddenly turn to look at Hammer with rage and vengeance in their eyes, no longer caring about the bar wench.

    Spoiler: show
You'll need to pick a new target zilong!

Next round I'll mark them with their letters.

    Spoiler: show
Hammer is next but I think you kind of did his turn in your post BRP? Just to clarify, I was looking in the manual are these Hobgoblin minions with 1 HP or whatever?

Noah instinctively draws his holy symbol and rushes to the edge of the fireplace to get a better view; he immediately begins muttering words to himself and finally shouts, "Keep him busy, Hammer!"

    Spoiler: show

    Minor Action: Draw Holy Symbol
    Move Action: G-5
Standard Action: Lance of Faith +4 Wis Mod +0 1/2 Lvl + 2 attack roll (Combat Advantage from flanking with Hammer on Hobgoblin C) [Give resulting +2 power bonus on attack to target to Variz] (1d20+6=25, 1d8+4=12)

    HP: 23
    AP: 2

(I had to reroll because I forgot to include an attack roll for the Lance of Faith, I just rolled damage dice. I think the mods I added to them are correct, 4 from Wis for attack and damage and then +2 to attack roll for combat advantage, +0 to attack roll from 1/2 level, no +0 for 1/2 level on damage, right?)

Zilong it would be better if we waited until the end of the initiative order (one whole round) before making new turns. Makes things really confusing otherwise. I'll still count it, but you can change your mind during the next time if you'd like.

    Yeah, Hammer killed a minion.

And the actually order of posting doesn't matter, I will shape it to fit initiative, but it's best to wait a bit if you are last or near last since things can get pretty distorted.

Also, I'm going to begin posting an updated image mid-turn whenever I get a chance. Getting hard to track lol.

EDIT: Nevermind I'm an idiot. You do have line of sight(forgot how low that stupid fireplace was. Give me a second.

    Spoiler: show
I think I moved 6 spaces already unless moving across tables is allowed then getting to H-4 would be the purple path right? Also, I thought we could see over the fireplace and stuff but just couldn't see if it passed over the chimney (the yellow bar)? I drew my lines of sight for the cast and I think they work. I was a little confused by the manuals wording of how to draw ranged attacks so I figured a strait corner-to-corner line of sight approach would be valid for a path it could take, right?

Zilong, you can keep the roll and everything, you might need to adjust your targets though.

Magus, you were fine. You can just do your attack over the low fireplace.

Sleepy + DM = sub par thinking. Really sorry about any confusion. You guys responded so fast, I didn't have time to fix my mistake before causing you trouble lol.

Noah releases a javelin of white light from his grip. It hits a hobgoblin dead in the chest, skewering him. He coughs out blood and like the comrade he sought to avenge he collapses dead.

Less than a second later, two hobgoblins and a goblin enter through the door-less entrance. In the hand of the goblin is a large flaming torch. They see the bodies of the fallen hobgoblins and instantly know who are responsible. The goblin shouts something in the Goblin language towards your party.

Before you can react, another crash and scream is heard from behind. The back door of Ten Years has now also been smashed. From the small hallway come out two fleeing patrons and two more hobgoblins chasing them.

    Initiative: (Round 2)
    Somoe- 15
    Variz - 14
    Hobgoblins- 14
    Hammer- 13
    Goblin - 9 Goblin Initiative (1d20 7=9)
    Noah- 4
    Patrons- 0

Looking at the enemy's reinforcement, Variz wasted no time making his way to the group of enemies to begin cutting down their numbers. With the enemies right in front of him, he made a loud roar, inhaled the air around him and blasted a silver dragon's renowned breath attack at them.
    Spoiler: show
Gotcha, I'll just set up my actions for this round before going to sleep then

    Move Action: Move to L-8
Minor Action: Dragon Breath Close Blast 3 on the 3x3 Squares on MNO 5-8 using the roll earlier http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1701818/ (20 attack roll, automatic 7 damage critical ice breath)
Standard Action: Using active perception checks to see outside the tavern if there were anymore enemies waiting to make an entrance or if there were anymore fighting outside
    Perception check: http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1702069/ (4+8 )

Also, making another nature check on monster knowledge check on the Goblin that just show up.

    Nature check: http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1702066/ (10+8 )

Would my ice element breath attack extinguish the torch the goblin is currently carrying?

"Somoe, let's try to clear our way outside and check what's going on out there," Noah shouts as he casts another spell aimed at the hobgoblins that entered from behind him.

    Spoiler: show
I'll get my turn out of the way now just in case I miss when Bagel and the Hobgoblins take their turns, it shouldn't interfere much if setups change. Also, I'm talking to Somoe but it's as if Bagel took his turn already so it shouldn't interfere with whatever he chooses to do since I say it at the start of my turn which is right before he takes his again.

Standard Action: Lance of Faith @ Hobgoblin G [Give resulting +2 attack to Somoe] (1d20+4=12, 1d8+4=9)
Move: If a goblin gets near me, move back towards Hammer/Variz @ K-9

Somoe hears the back door crash and jumps off the table. "Oh bugger," she mutters under her breath and with gesture of her hand sends a wave of crackling energy at the hobgoblins.

    Spoiler: show
Move to F-7, Thunderwave on G and H. Any enemy hit will be pushed 4 squares back (possibly back outside the inn).

Thunderwave vs. Hobgoblin G's Fort. (1d20+4=17)

Thunderwave vs. Hobgoblin H's Fort. (1d20+4=13)

    Thunderwave damage (1d6+4=9)

    HP:22
    AP:2

Hammer gives the Hobgoblin behind him a precisely placed blow before turning his attention to the enemies in front.

    Spoiler: show
Sure Strike on B, if this hits and kills him, Hammer moves up to the nearest enemy, probably N-5 if Variz's breath attack killed the assumed minions. If he misses, just stay in position. That almost certainly hits though, wwwwwwwwww

    Sure Strike Attack/Dmg (1d20+9=28, 1d10+1=9)

    HP:29
    AP:1
