I haven't played in over a year. First my old PC crashed, then when I got my new one SE introduced a bunch of crap changes. It didn't feel worth it to go back honestly. I'm pretty psyched for XIV though.

I quit over a year ago. At the time I wasn't really expecting to, but I had just finished my 6th job to 75 and was getting really bored. Outside of LS events, there wasn't much to do except merit or campaign. Also I'm NA but I was in an EU LS so in the afternoon there wasn't very many people on to talk to. So I tried out WAR and actually had a lot of fun with it, mostly because I found the PvP fun and accessible. And when I would log back into FFXI I would stand there for a minute staring at my character asking myself why I even logged in.
But after leveling to 40 in WAR and trying to play in the awful T4 I got frustrated and bored. Tried Aion when it released but that was a huge let down. So now I'm just trying to find an MMO that gave me the feeling of fun and immersion that FFXI gave me in the first few years I played it. Honestly I'm skeptical that FFXIV will provide it, but I'm excited to try it out and see how I like it. At the very least, it's something to play until SWTOR comes out.
i quit ffxi long ago and came back for a month or so and quit again, i loved the game and i love teh buddies i played with...some how i met a hot girlt that plays and she is now my GF ...yeah its a trip i know! we will both be playing ffxiv and i will still be high as a kite the whole time! hahah and scoot! you better be on my server again!
Quit XI after a few months CoP came out. Just started university at the time, and realized that time was a very rare commodity for me now. Was never bitter leaving the game, as it enabled me to create some online friendships I still have to this day.
Quit FFXI because I had too many issues with people being too dramatic, making the game less fun. Was tired of dealing with bullshit, and wanted to focus more on real-life bullshit, so I quit [=
Definitely going to give FFXIV a try though, now that my real-life has been less bullshity... lol
I quit shortly after ToAU came out because I had my first child. Played wow later for a little while but hated raiding with 12 year olds. Hopefully FF14 will be easier to play if you have limited time (as in 3 hours for a pt and people don't get pissed if you leave after 1 hour.... especially since I was a bard).
I quit FFXI recently cause of lack of time, but I'll be back for FFXIV for sure
Quit FFXI out of lack of interest, really hyped for 14 though :D
I played FFXI when it first came out for about three years and LOVED it. I simply didn't have the time to invest in it any more so I went to WoW where I could "be more casual". Of course that didn't help when I eventually joined a top 50 worldwide guild :/
FFXI always held a warm place in my heart for the amazing story and great friendships you create. This is mostly due to the fact that there are very few 'alts' and you really get to know who people are even on other jobs.
I went back a year or two ago and leveled a new character in FFXI and, again, had an amazing time doing it. However, It isn't the easiest thing to get started and back up to par in a game that is 8 years+ old from starting from scratch. I did well, but getting much needed pieces was quite a chore as it was from content people seldom did anymore.
I truly can't wait to be able to start fresh in a Final Fantasy world!
I quit XI when the game was at its worst. A fucked up economy coupled with rampant botting and mob stealing really wasn't fun. I also got sick of people wanting to do nothing but sky gods, Dynamis and Fafnir while ignoring anything new that was implemented. I don't like the attitude that if something doesn't have an awesome drop it's not worth doing.
As much as I'd like to play the game again I simply can't be bothered to start from nothing again, especially with XIV just round the corner.
Quit like 2.5 years ago a tad before Wings came out because a couple friends talked me into playing WoW and sold my account. Never looked back but the 4-5 years I spent playing were easily the most fun I've ever had in any MMO.
Not even giving 14 a second thought; totally optimistic about it. Yeah 11 had its flaws, but I'm sure (or very, very hopeful I guess) that SE learned their lessons for those few flaws.
Hell, even if they didn't I'd still play no matter what, lol.
Quit awhile ago, will be back for this though for sure.
Pretty much bought a PS3 just for this game. Will definitely be back and it's my only OMG MUST BUY!! game for the rest of the year..
well i didn't play ffxi because... well just because. but ff14 changes all.
Quit FFXI last year as i was tired of sitting in WG waiting on DA/Dyna/Salv/whatever. Started up WoW got to 80 Pally/Priest, quit that because BG's are boring, the PvP is unbalanced and the raids suck. I'll probably take 2 weeks off work sick and play straight with no sleep when FFXIV is released.
I'll decide after I've had a chance to play the beta, so far I'm looking forward to it.
