I'm talking about pure leveling, sorry I should have elaborated.

Maybe back in the days where you needed sky to level, yeah.
Now I'm lost >_> (I was talking about pure leveling too) Unless you mean mob grinding, in that case you can not compare WoW to XI, WoW has always been better exp with quests (for the uninitiated on obscure or not so obscure ways of grinding)
Trust me when I say it takes longer to get to 80 on WoW then on FFXI.
EDIT: I've been doing pure leveling with a full-time job now for almost a month, on a holy priest, and I'm still at 73. I do quests now and then on Shadow priest so I won't get bored of dungeon grinding.
I could hit 75/80 on FFXI back when I played in a week or 2 tops depending on the job.
Also as soon as you can do Alterac Valley, which is like 51 I think? I'd grind on that. Its really good exp, at least it was for me.
You can hit 75 (and lets say 3 merit points) in 2 weeks from zero? No subjobs, no outside help (The occasional high friendly high level is ok) on XI?
You can't compare WoW leveling to FFXI leveling if you only occasionally do quests
You're not making sense now, first you talk about having a job now about being unemployed. You also said longer not harder.
The hardest thing about FFXI leveling was that most levels meant absolute dick for your character and half the time even reduced the exp rate of the entire fucking party. And then if you were actually in a strong, solid group of players that knew what they were doing and had gear upgrades sitting about you had to move to a new camp every 2-3 levels and sometimes even across the entire fucking world to get to it (yeah, pre-level sync).
But I agree with the above in that you cannot compare WoW leveling and FFXI level. If only for the simple fact that leveling IS FFXI and WoW believes leveling is just a fun learning experience, not the whole game.

seriously?
Don't hate. It was my trump card.
Yes your triumph card being you're one of the 12y/o playing wow.
8/10 would get trolled again.
I wasn't even trolling, really. You brought up good points, but so did I. However, to each his own. After all, I'm only 12 years old.
In all seriousness, as much as you may disagree, astral burning is part of FFXI.
not this fucking shit again, give me a break
It would be hard to come up with an argument worse than this one..
At 10k/h, which is very generous for any non static party, it would takes 80 hours of pure grinding to reach 75. In WoW, it takes between 1 and 2 hours per level most of the time, and 3-4h from 70 to 80. In the end, you're probably looking at 120-150 hours on your first character.
The biggest difference is that WoW system encompass everything (gearing yourself, exploring the world, making money) while FFXI force you to grind for gears and farm money on the side. If you take into account the time wasted building party, and the time it takes to run to the camp, you're most likely looking at larger number for FFXI. If you get carried by a group of higher level, sure, it can be faster, but it's not going to happen on your first characters usually.
Anyway, the reason why WoW is "easier" is that anyone can play whenever they feel like and grind efficiently. Planets don't need to be aligned to have good xp, you just go whenever you want and do your thing.
When i said WoW was easier than FFXI, I guess I meant pre "Ez-mode" FFXI. lol.
I played FFXI maybe 7 years ago? It seemed like a ridiculously long grind at that point in time, and I didn't like the downtime in between fights. The fact that you had to group with other people was incredible though. That's what every MMO should be like IMO.
I see WoW as being easier because its very beginner friendly. WoW also doesn't require groups to get things done. It actually deters people from grouping up until dungeons or group quests by making drops during a gather quest only drop one item, that went to one person in the entire group. (Requiring you to kill 5x the amount of mobs)
There's also the dungeon finder. Can't deny that being awesome.
I'm really looking forward to FFXIV tho.![]()
This thread was just asking for it.
This is a reason why it makes WoW better than FFXI in a certain way. It seems as if 70-80 even with questing is taking forever (I'm just about to ding 74), where as in FFXI, if you're about it and don't mind killing the same shit over and over, you can go 70-75 in probably a day's time, depending on the job you're playing.
You can't tell me you can do that on WoW, considering I went 24 hours since I didn't have to work the day after once, and only got about 2 levels, mixing dungeon and quest grinding.
I didn't really mean to use Astral burning as a reason why leveling is easier in FFXI, it was more of a joke. Then again, even if you may think its a weak argument, its still a part of FFXI that can't in no way be replicated in WoW. If AB was considered in anyway malicious, then it wouldn't exist.
EDIT: Like I said earlier, FFXI is SOOOOOO much easier than what it use to be back when I first started. Getting ZMs done @ level 60 just so you can get some experience points was very tedious. Finding help could be difficult unless you knew the right people.
Also when doing limit breaks was actually considered an achievement, and spending hours, or even days, trying to kill Maat just so you could get 75. FFXI has been watered down way too much when it comes to leveling. A good merit party is 20k/hr nowadays, whereas back then, if you were getting 9k/hr @ Bibiki Bay, you'd be begging people not to leave and just keep exp'ing because YOU thought that was good.
Prot Pally grinding would like to say hi.
In addition to that I did go 75-80 in a day on both my DK, shaman and pally, without doing the prot pally grind, just from questing in Scholazar, Storm Peaks and Icecrown. Epic flying did help, but honestly, gold isn't hard to make in WoW.
It's heaps and bounds easier to level in WoW than in FFXI.
