Has anyone been unable to reset their password due to the security question prompt? I know what my security question is, but it keeps giving me an error message. This has actually happened twice, and I'm on my 2nd account...

I didn't notice a contact phone number for SE. I got an email through to them, but I recall sending them one when this happened w/ my first account (before I gave up and just made a second) and got no response.

I'm not digging the pricing they're using for this game. Once again they're going with the pay-per-character model that kept FFXI from having those handy game time cards every single MMO has. So I assume FFXIV won't have them either.

And $3 for additional characters and $1 just for some npc to sell shit? Wtf.

    Monthly Pricing Details:

    • Base Monthly Fee: $12.99 / £8.99 / €12.99 (includes 1 character slot and 1 retainer)
    • Additional Character Slots: $3.00 / £2.10 / €3.00 per month. (8 slots max).
    • Additional Retainers: $1.00 / £0.70 / €1.00 per month.

There's no reason you would need more than 1 character or retainer unless you have multiple people playing on one account or you have characters on multiple servers.

I would have to agree that it is a bit backward of them to expect us to pay for extra character/retainer slots.

But I can't say I'm surprised SE aren't the most intuitive bunch.

The fact is they know people will pay it, so they are taking advantage of that.

It would be better to have separate accounts for that, and not other characters on the same account, as you can only be logged in to one character on the same account at a time. Unless you're thinking of leaving characters at, say, Tiamat etc. to log on them every now and then. But even then, you're better of with multiple accounts.

I don't think its very backwaters at all. Unless AION, WoW etc, you can level all of the classes on one character, so you don't *need* multiple characters. In FFXI you had to create new characters every time oyu needed more AH space. In FFXIV, they let upgrade your "auction house" space by purchasing them on your character, rather than forcing you to create new characters.

We don't know how many slots one Retainer gives - for all we know it could be 80 per Retainer, or perhaps you can even upgrade your Retainer. You're not forced to purchase them either, its up to you.

And why wouldn't they takr advantage of it? They're a company, not help organization.

Either way this ends up as a nickle and dime squeeze but that isn't really unexpected XI was like this. (let's hope there is no bs about PS3 Limitations on inventory this time around)

I keep telling you people that SE saw what Blizzard did and wants that coin. Think of how much money Blizzard brings in each month. Honestly, just think about it, JUST with WoW.

You know SE wants some of that dollar, and is willing to try those kinds of things to get it.
I'll probably have a Hyur and a catgirl, but other than that, I don't need a trillion toons. I might make a female Hyur in beta just to see the pathetic girly run animation, but honestly, with the increased bag space and the ability to become any job at any time, do people really need mules for the old reasons?

I believe that mules will be at a premium in FFXIV because S-E doesn't want people to easily have the potential advantage of farming/exploiting crafting guildleves as they reset every ~3 days. People who want that advantage will have to pay dearly for it.

Indeed, and I wouldn't be surprised if Blizzad has a nuclear reactor or two to keep the servers running. I'm scared to even imagine their electrical bill each month, and that's only a fraction of what they make from WoW.

Random question, which I am sure has been answered here somewhere:

How does one get his FFXIII bonus item for the PC version? Do I need to link my SE account somewhere? Apply to beta again?

Its foolhardy to think that a company as competitive as SE wouldn't want to take a few extra grabs at some extra profit.

Companies tread a fine line between nickel-and-diming and keeping their customers blissfully immersed. I don't mind the option, as it means that I have a choice whether to spend extra money (which I won't) for something I can determine if I need or not.

A lot has changed since FFXI and I think a lot of FFXI players need to realize that. SE is a business, first and foremost, and a distributor of ridills and e.bodies second.

Edit; Good fucking question, Hyan. I still can't navigate that weird site. It tells me I need to register again since I registered before March 1, then tells me that my email address is in use so I can't use it this time around, then tells me that i has no record of my email address when I try to pull up my old password.

This is a part of the email I saved when I registered my copy of FFXIII.

I believe that question has already been asked, and the answer was NO... not unless you had the Japanese copy of the game.
