I like the negative reviews on RT.

    Loved the movie.

    Spoiler: show
I'm not really sure of the significance of his kids having the same clothing they had in all his dreams throughout the movie. That could have just been for an emotional effect that he finally gets his kids, just as he had dreamed them. What does make me think is that his kids apparently hadn't aged much, if at all. Exactly how long had he been out of the country and doing jobs? Also the top looked clearly ready to topple before the credits rolled to me, indicating that it wasn't a dream. Did they ever say how long he had been away from his kids and I just missed it?

I loved it! It reminds me a lot of "prestige", which is one of my favorite movies of all time.

so, the end implies that he is STILL in a dream? In the beginning of the movie I noticed something that could have affects later on in the movie... He was in a bathroom, trying to spin the top, but it fell off the sink, making it unsure if he is in a dream... Is that of importance?

I could just be going crazy, the last bits near the end were going really fast. @_@
Yea, if it never stops spinning then he's still dreaming.

Yeah I was questioning the children's age thing and how long it had been. But when Leo was talking on the phone with his children, they sounded young...around that age still. However, if we go with the theory that it was part of a dream sequence...perhaps this ENTIRE movie was his dream, and none of it was reality. That semi-toppling is still questionable. Keeps you guessing

Its definitely a movie to talk and debate about. I've never seen a Nolan film that I didn't like, but man, this shit blows everything out of the water (including Memento which was also a mind fuck).

Reading the above, in the end

Just got out the movie and ... wow. Amazing film. We genuinely debated going right back in and seeing it again; I haven't felt this jazzed about a film since the first Lord of the Rings flick, and I think this one was better.

I usually rate movies I've seen on imdb, and it keeps track of my voting history. This is the 7th movie I've ever given a 10/10 score for.

My fiancee loved it as much as I did, so it wasn't just me.

I'm not as high on it as everyone else, but I absolutely agree that the overall storyline was very finely crafted. My main gripe is that a bit too much of the movie is just one of two or three characters dictating to the audience how things work. A little more showing, a little less telling would have been nice. I get it, the dream layering gets deep, and that may confuse some people. The dreams were so vastly different from each other, and they did a great job bouncing between each dream that it would have been just as easy to follow the base storyline without so much heavy-handed pseudo-narration.

My other main gripe was that it was needlessly long. There's nothing wrong with brevity. It almost felt like they expected to lose a lot of the audience with the story, so they fell back on extra action sequences. Some of them, like the entire van chase, were entirely necessary. Others, like 80% of the 3rd dream, did little more than extend the movie and keep the interest of people that had lost the storyline and just wanted to see people shoot each other. Action for action's sake is almost always wasted time, especially in a movie like this where there is so much else going on that legitimately warrants the screen time.

All that said, for everything the movie fell short on for me, it came through positively in multiple other areas. At the end of the day, I would be lying if I were to say that it wasn't the best movie I've seen thus far that was released in 2010*.

*I haven't been able to see 71-Into the Fire yet, so we'll see if Inception maintains that title after July 30th.

    La la la

    Spoiler: show

I'm curious if the times in the various depths work out. From my calculations, they couldn't have spent much more than 2 seconds at depth 1 when they were in depth 3. Roughly 15 seconds from when the music in the van started to when they hit the water should have been around 1.5 days at depth 3, given a roughly 1:8760 ratio (10 hours:10 years). Now I realize they didn't spend all their time at Depths 2, 3, and Limbo but at the same time I'm almost positive the numbers don't actually work out but I'm tempted to rewatch it and try to figure out roughly how much time they spent at each depth.

As for the ending. I don't know. Did he actually ever spin the top and have it fall down? I thought I'd seen it fall but a previous poster did point out that it fell off the sink or whatever.....so maybe it was just a dream? (not that the top made any sense. the whole point of weighted dice, weighted chess piece was that only that person would know how it would act. a top spinning forever wouldn't be what a dreamer would create to fool someone else, but it would have been a lot harder to visually express that the top was off-balance and fell a particular way (or spun a particular way)).

At any rate, there's a lot of evidence that it was just a dream. His kids didn't age, were wearing the same thing, the whole persecution thing, etc.

    Anyways, my point is...
I was waiting for the kids to turn around and not have faces at the end. jeez that would have freaked me out.

    Edit:
Of course someone on IMDB pointed out that the totems only helped you if you were in someone ELSE's dream, since if you were stuck in your own dream you'd obviously know how the totem should react. Also, apparently it keeps spinning after the credits. Damn me for walking out during the credits.

That was my initial interpretation as well--that it simply suggested that he went into another limbo. It wouldn't make much sense that the reality was a dream all along, because he clearly stated what the totem was for. If it was a dream, he should have known very early on. I think another limbo would be a much better ending, as "it was a dream the whole time" would be too predictable.

You'll be fine on regular. I saw it in IMAX tonight and wasn't blown away really.

Fantastic movie, Nolan is relentless with his brilliance.

Good movie. I can see how people got confused...

    Spoiler: show
Wasn't Cobbs dad in a different country? How did he magically get from that country to waiting for him at the airport if he wasn't still dreaming? Even if they explained it in the movie, just seemed weird to me.

To be fair we had no idea where his dad was, when he met with him in paris alot had happened between then and getting on the plane, he had also arranged for his dad to give his children those presents, so its safe to assume a journey to the states was on the cards at some point.

I'm pretty sure he wasn't in a dream at the end, the little spin top thing did start to wobble, where as in the dream the spin was constant. It was funny when everyone just /gasp at the end though lol.

Where do you get this info? I don't think there's anything after the credits.
