You know what else? PCs are good for more than gaming! They have a whole range of uses.
If you're still using the same piece of shit computer you bought 10 years ago I think you're overdue for an upgrade.

The only reason youd really need to upgrade for those other uses on PC is if you have some work use or gaming. Otherwise word processing, spreadsheets and browin the web works just fine on a 10 year old machine.
i was referring to SE accomodating the PS3 users who have a 20gig harddrive. SE wouldnt upgrade drives for others, thats the user's responsibility.
Wow, I came extremely close to buying a PS3 solely to play 14. I opted for a wait and see approach, and I'm glad I did. I will be buying a PC around 2 weeks before release instead.
I don't remember exactly, but for some reason I recall them saying something like they would be released simultaneously? I really can't understand why they wouldn't opt for that, unless the PS3 version is bugged to all hell or something.
For those who went ahead and bought PS3's, I hope you kept your receipt.
^ What and a PC doesn't have more uses than just playing FF14 ?
Can't be addicted to something that doesn't exsist yet![]()
My PS3 is a 60g and I have 3148MB/55GB left. I've deleted most of my game files, demos, and I have no music/photos. What the hell is taking up all this space?
I have a 10 year old machine sitting on the other end of the room. And while I COULD use it for what you say, by lord I wouldn't want to. I mean, I could do stuff the old hard way, or upgrade and get it done quicker and with less hassle.
Not to mention that if you're still using a 10 year old PC, you could be stuck in that era, without access to anything new (LIKE FFXIV!), but had you upgraded, you wouldn't have that problem. If something should break (10 years old? You got lucky...) for the most part you could be screwed.
So while you could make do, there is always a reason to upgrade, the problem is picking the right time to upgrade. For a lot of people in this topic, this sounds like a reason. Stop thinking about it like you're upgrading your PC for just 1 game (even though you are), think about what else you're getting out of this upgrade. And if that still doesn't convince you, shut up and wait for the PS3 version.
Have you deleted your install data? That usually takes up the most space.
I just bought a laptop that works great for everything (even most games that I want/have wanted to play, including FFXI) but it won't play FFXIV because it doesn't have a good enough graphics card. There's really no way to justify going out and buying a whole new PC just for this game, which is why I think most people are a bit upset that the release dates are so different.
If SE wants the game to be on multiple systems they should make a time table that accommodates all of their customers, simple as that. This is especially true for a game that is hoping to compete with other MMOs that are coming out soon (hi Star Wars: Old Republic).
PC version of games pretty much always wins out in the end, whether it be because of modifications or third party programs. This was especially true in FFXI - PC gamers had a sizable advantage due to Windower plugins (Spellcast and extended macros), APRadar, claim bots, etc.
You should see SE delaying the PS3 release as a cue to do yourself a favor and build a PC
First 6 months of FFXIV = Open beta disguised as a retail game. By waiting until PS3 release you'll be giving the game a chance to fully establish itself. There's plenty of other games coming out this fall to enjoy.
im pissed at this aswell.
i want them to just come out and give a valid reason for once and dont bullshit us.
pppl keep saying building a pc can be as cheap. while that might be true its not the point. the point is some ppl bought ps3 for playing FFXIV among other things. same as ppl who game on pc wont buy a pc solely for ffxiv.
6months is a lot of time no matter how you want to spin it and some people just want to play it when its out and not having to wait or go out and buy a new pc.
and i wish we had cheap stuff in EU to build a PC, unfortunatlu for me i just spend 1k euros on a laptop a few months ago because i needed a laptop ASAP. and i hoped it would play FFXIV but it looks like it wont. and i cant go out and buy a pc atm because of that so i was counting on my 2 ps3s and a dec release for gathering enough cash together to build a decent pc.
it might not be a deal breaker but it is a big deal to say something and go back on your word without any valid reason and this is my biggest problem.
shit coukd happend hell all their PS3 could have bricked or all the ps3 ssoftware could have been wiped , point is there should be an explanantion because up until now we were being told in subtle ways that both versions were comming along fine
They encountered some problems doing the ps3 version. From jeuxonline: http://www.jeuxonline.info/actualite...romichi-tanaka
JeuxOnLine : So ... About the PS3 out, do not you think that players who are scheduled to play Final Fantasy XIV on PS3 are extremely disappointed since the announcement of a staggered release?
Tanaka : * laughs * Yes, it's a shame. We understand the wrath of players and developers are sorry because they did everything they could to have a simultaneous release date, but unfortunately they have encountered many technical problems on the development of the game PS3. We strive to release the game as soon as possible.
Square enix is stimulating the economy. I built my first PC for this game and I had to budget like a motherfucker
Whats with all this talk of "building" your own PC? Can't most new shelf models run XIV without breaking a sweat? Is it really that much cheaper for the average layman to pay someone to "build" a new desktop?
I'm pissed about the delayed PS3 release as much as the next guy. However i need a new laptop anyway (current one is 7 years old). It seems the $1,000 - $1,500 price range at Best Buy can get me on Diablo 3 and FFXIV with processing power to spare. Do people even "build" laptops?
I can foot that bill and write it off as my christmas gift to myself for the year. I do feel sorry for those who can't afford a rig like that though. SE should have just labeld it as an extended beta period instead of a delayed PS3 launch. Thier public relations department sucks ass.
Most of the time it's cheaper to build your own PC. And also wiser, because sometimes the sets you see at stores are just... weird and stupid. Weird parts, useless stuff in them and weird combinations of parts.
And no, you cannot build a laptop.
