It's great if you want to be totally up to date all the time on new rules and environments they publish; and the tools are pretty cool/useful. Character generator rolls together stuff from all the series' plus additional publications for easy character building. If the encounter/monster generators are anywhere near as good (I haven't really messed with them) it could be pretty handy for DMing if you do it often and want to add new flavor into your games to make your players go 'WTF!?'

Or if you get a lot of players in your campaigns who bring in new rules you aren't familiar with, the compendium makes it easy to reference information from across the entire spectrum.
