Question about how the game controls for Testers

Hey, I was just wondering if this game uses macros like XI or like WoW and the rest of the clones. In essence, I want to know if I should buy a mouse like this one

weren't macro's in Alpha, Don't know about beta.
In alpha you had 2 action bars that you set abilities to: You would select each row's of abilities via 1-0, and press down/up to switch rows

Am I the only player who never saw a big difference between WoW's and FFXI's control (for ability). Pressing 0-9 for your ability instead of ctrl/shift 0-9 is the same shit. You just position your hand differently on the keyboard/mouse.


Anyway, there is no custom text macro in the alpha (for now), you select your skill from the list if you want to add them to the macro bar. To use them, you press 0-9 on your keyboard, but this time, they added a macro palette that can be clicked as well. Essentially, it's like FFXI, except for the "macro rectangle" on top of the screen that was shifted to the bottom side of the screen, and made prettier.

I think (hope) that there will be so much retooling of the UI in general between Alpha and Beta, it's really hard to say right now. I wouldn't base your decision on anything that was in place in Alpha, wait a few weeks for Beta at least.

Alpha controls were terrible, too early to say but that mouse is overkill for anything imo

i have a question related to the alpha controls. can you still control your movement with the keypad? does tab still function as the 'target select' key?

Keypad is really the only way to control movement in Alpha. Good luck trying to get the mouse controls do anything but stare directly at the sky or the ground.

Jesus fuck, people. FFXIV = FFXI-2. Take 95% of what FFXI was and you can pretty accurately assume it to be the EXACT. SAME. THING. in FFXIV.

It was a reasonable question. You can actually move your windows and shit around with a mouse now, so that was neat. It's just a little early to be purchasing new hardware based on the alpha...unless of course you clearly need a new graphics card/RAM/CPU/PS3

Thank you everyone for your input. Ask for that mouse being overkill, I used to think so until my cousin got one for WoW. I was playin around on his Rouge for a bit, and the mouse worked great. I wish I had had that for my mage when I used to play. I guess I'll find out in Sept. Thanks ya'll.
