    BG Medical: Drugstore Clinics?

So my body is continuing to shit itself(figuratively, thankfully) and I'm starting to really feel the need to get it fixed. I have a very strong feeling that I have chronic bronchitis, and it's been bugging the crap out if me, if I'm lucky it's just bad allergies.

I have insurance starting in June, but I'm not sure if I want to sick this out until then and I might not even stay at my job long enough for it to kick in. I was looking at the TakeCare/Minute Clinic sites and they're pretty vague, so I was hoping someone who has used them could give me some info about them, if anyone has gone specifically for chronic bronchitis/COPD that'd be even better.

I don't really want to go in there and spend $200+ out of pocket for them to tell me I need to go see a real doctor which I'd definitely have to wait for insurance to afford.

Just use WebMD and order a variety from Canada/Mexico. I'm sure one of them will do the trick.

WebMD I'd consider to be a domestic terrorism organization. Anytime I look up anything on WebMD, regardless of what the symptom is, it says YOU'RE GOING TO DIE FROM THIS, SEE A PHYSICIAN IMMEDIATELY

After working at a Walgreens for two years I can tell you with confidence the best way to avoid paying for an unnecessary Dr. appointment is to go see your pharmacist. Any Walgreens/CVS/Rite Aid/Wal-Mart/Publix/anything with a pharmacy should have an area called the "consultation window". Basically you go there if you have any private questions you want to ask the pharmacist about your medication etc. Pharmacists *are* doctors, and as such if you describe your symptoms to them and ask for a small examination they can do it. They can't draw blood or do x-rays or anything like that, but they will take your temperature, check your blood pressure, check your breathing and heartbeat etc. They can't write you a prescription for meds themselves, but this free exam will basically tell you whether you can get by on OTC stuff or if you have something more serious that you need to go see a general practitioner or specialist about.

EDIT: To clarify, make sure you speak with the actual pharmacist on duty and not the 20 year old pharmacy tech who is a pre-med student hoping to go to pharmacy school one day.

The clinics are a horrible rip off. See a real doctor or deal with it. Sorry bud.

Pharmacist's consultation is a good idea. If you feel feverish and have been expectorating a lot then it could be pneumonia - that needs a doctors visit immediately for a proper diagnosis. But if it's just ongoing chest congestion without a lot of phlegm coming up, and you're not running a temperature, then some OTC medicine a pharmacist can recommend would help your symptoms until you can see a physician.

This nice thing about seeing the Pharmacist is that, in my experience, they will often offer generic drugs that are more targeted to your symptoms than more general off-the-shelf medicines. Compounding pharmacies are good for this kind of thing too.
