I am getting my license soon. I don't know much about pistols. Any tips on a good first gun or places to read and get more info? I am in Chicago.

Don't ask people on a forum about it, need to do your own research on something like a firearm; considering this is your first.
Get a Portal gun. Fuck bullets, just send people to the moon.
First learn this: http://training.nra.org/nra-gun-safety-rules.aspx
Then, go to one or more of these locally: http://www.nrainstructors.org/searchcourse.aspx
Good luck with pistols in Chicago, don't know much about the laws there but I know they're rough on restrictions. Talk to one of the safety trainers and figure out what is even legal to own out there.
why buy a gun when you could buy body armor!? I own a springfield XD-9 btw. pretty good gun. but still, body armor is cooler... more cool.
best feel and quality? sig p226 (9mm)
budget? glock 17(9mm)
got money to blow? p229 (.45 acp or 9mm) or 1911 (.45 acp or 9mm)
With ammo going up in price, I'd go for a .22 for your first gun. You can shoot more and learn more that way.
Depends if you need/want it for protection, sport, etc.
This, definitely. Doesn't hurt to get some opinions however

LTCH holder here.. It all boils down to what you are comfortable with, and what you like etc etc
But for a reliable, solid piece for your first handgun I would recommend the S&W 5906. It's a 9mm, has very little recoil, very accurate, easy to clean, and also very dependable with good stopping power. Also, the price is very reasonable for these.

As far as suggesting favorite pistols, this guy has my exact tastes.
Unless you're wanting to blow 1200-1300 bucks on a gnarly German made bad-boy and get yourself an H&K USP .45... why conceal when you can stop crimes just with it's presence?!

=( how could i forget about that h&k usp. Well I like sigs a little too much. Try going to a shooting range and test them all out first. Everyone's preferences are different.
If you have friends that shoot make sure to try theirs a bit, might find something you like. How it feels in your hand is important, everyone has different preferences.
Personally I love my CZ-75b, and have a hard on for 1911's.
Funnily enough, I'm going to a range/store to try out a few guns for my first buy tomorrow. Been looking at a Beretta PX4 Storm Compact.
Fuck pistols, get a revolver.
Right now is kind of a bad time to buy a gun, the prices have taken a rather huge jump due to the fear that they'll be taken away. Gun shows are crazy right now.
Since you live in the land of 1000 piece of shit politicians, you will not be able to CC your hand gun for at least 100 more days. I personally like my glock 36 (45 ACP sub compact). But definitely go to the range ans shoot a bunch of different guns and see what you personally like.
