2014 BG Football Pickems

Yup, it's the most wonderful time of the year, when everyone in one of the Big 5 conferences* has a chance to win the national championship, and every NFL team** has the chance to win the Super Bowl. In addition to all the normal Fantasy Football, we have our typical football championships.

The first is College Pick Em. ESPN will list 10 games each week, and you have to pick the winner of each, and then rank them by confidence. If you get your Max (10 pt) confidence pick right, you get 10 points, your second highest gives you 9 pts, etc, down to the least confident game, which gives you 1 pt. Do this for 13 or 14 weeks, and at the end of the year, the person with the most points wins.

Second? NFL Pick Em. No confidence this time, just winners straight up, all 17 weeks, not including playoffs. You'll need to make your picks every week.

Third? Eliminator. It's not quite a suicide pool, but you pick one team every week. You can only pick each team once for the season, meaning 15 teams go unpicked. Whoever successfully picks the most winners over the course of the season wins. In the case of a tie, whoever had the longest streak to start the season wins.

If you were in these leagues last year, you can probably just hit Rejoin, which makes it easier. The passwords changed, so you might have to re-enter, no idea.

There are no actual prizes for this, other than imaginary internet points, unless people really feel like making this a $$$ thing, which I'd be OK-ish with. However, if you do win, you get your name on the Hall of Flame below. If there's a tie, there's only one winner, in which case I'll use the official tiebreakers with the one exception of the Eliminator thing above.

In case you do win, it's helpful if you put your BG Login name in your team name. If not, feel free to send me a PM and I'll update it. I don't feel like spending a lot of time and energy making sure it's right, but if you make it easy for me, I'll make sure it's good.

No. You can bet all of your chips day one if you are so inclined. Which means you either get a big lead, or are out. Nobody who bet big and crazy last year came to close to winning, most people who did that crapped out by half-way through the season. Slow and steady was what won the pool last year. You can also try to lay parlays, so if you hit an 8-team parlay and only wagered 50 chips, you could skyrocket that way. Or you could keep trying to hit 8-team parlays all year, and you could suffer from death by attrition.

Last year, the winner ended up with 57,000 chips, although he slowed down betting because there were a whole lot of people who crapped out early (lots of Oregon Duck fans got caught up betting them to cover, amongst other things).

Year before, three people hit six figures and it went down to the Super Bowl, but I wasn't involved, so I don't know the details.
