    Home recording volume and mixing

I have an digitech RP1000 that I use to record my guitar and bass to my computer.

My problem is that the recorded audio is too low. Way too low. The bass for example will record at -40 DB with the track volume almost maxed (no compressor yet but still). The goal should be -20 DB uncompressed.

The pedalboard is set to bypass, so I dont have to worry about the levels on the pedal itself. My problem is either windows or the DAW.

Is there a way to set the motherboard to record USB input louder?

I tried: -Turning the desktop volume all the way up and record.

-Go into the sound mixer, find the pedalboard and raise the volume all
    the way up and record.

My gear: Digitech RP1000 pedalboard plugged via USB to the back USB port.
    Motherboard: GA-Z77X-UD3H gigabyte
    Windows 8.1 64bit pro
    Ohm studio

There should be a switch on the back panel to select AMP or MIX out, amp is the one you should use for recording, although I'm not sure if it affects usb out at all.
If that doesn't make any difference you can try an amp simulator preset on the digitech to get a better input signal.
If you're willing to ditch the whole usb thing, just buy an adapter (6.35mm to 3.5mm) and plug the unit with audio cables: asio4all drivers work with integrated sound cards and you should be able to get lower lantency than the usb interface.
