I'm not a computer expert but Jake Song said in a Korean interview, that Cry Engine 2 and 3 are integrated throughout Arche Age, for closed Beta 3.

The Eastern continent has been done in Cry Engine 3, but the Western continent for now, the Cry Engine 3 is yet applied to the graphic related work but to physics like physical engine and animation.

Jake Song hopes to have Cry Engine 3 fully integrated by Open Beta, which should come out in November of this year.

XL Games and 2k games sign licence/publishing agreement

Jake Song and CEO of Take Two interactive Christoph Hartmann

Take two interactive and XL games has signed a licence/publishing agreement to work together in brining their games out in the market.

XL games will make a new MMO based on one of 2k games IP. While 2k games will license/publish XL games.

Still no word if 2k games will publish Arche Age in the west, but the rumor mill is going rampant now on 4 gamer.

    Crafting Video

When you get your mount skills high enough, you can actually fight while mounted

Not only can you build ships, but you can build boats to sail down rivers

When you get married you can have kids, when they grow up they are your labor power, you can use them to help you with your farm while your afk, protect your farm or when your off adventuring.

But other players can gank them and pirates can steal them and use them as slaves for their ships.

Here is someone ganking another players Labor.

One of the most important aspects of Arche Age is it's Labor Power. In order to do crafting, building, farming you need Labor power. Everyone has Labor Power.

The Labor system defines the way crafting, construction and gathering works. You will need labor points for most activities in ArcheAge, so this system entangles the whole game-play process, and offers unique possibilities for an ArcheAge player. You accumulate the points regularly at fixed intervals, whether you are on-line or off-line. The reason of such design is for equilibrium between the users who stay on-line a lot and users that play more casually. However, there is a limit to such accumulation, so that if users play often enough, they will be use this system optimally, while people, that play too often will have a shortage of these points, and people that play too rarely will have an excess of them. But still, users that cannot play the game each day, can log in occasionally, like every 2 days and spend all accumulated labor power at once.

Also, high-level users can use their labor power in more luxurious activities (such as going to a dance party) and also purchase the labor power of lower level users for crafting. XLGames would like the users to enjoy the game with less burden. So, with such a labor system, you can actually run a corporation. Pay people daily to work for you, and you get all your projects finished fast and rip the benefits, while the users get the money they need stably each day.

You can circumvent this by adding NPC's to your account. Each NPC has their own labor power. You can get free NPc's by having kids, or if your unlucky at love, you can hire peasant workers from the faction you belong to. You can also buy Labor Power off of other players. But if your not rich, you can make lots of alts, extra accounts and pool all the Labour power together. Or the guild can pool all it's Labor power to build cities, guild farms and ships.

It is exactly like crafting and capital ship handling in Eve Online. You can use multiple alts/NPC's to get it done faster/better/cheaper, or get the guild together and build together.

I think it's a good balance and interesting. What do you all think ?

I hate these "do anything" MMOs because while they always make such amazing ideas (like above), they always come down to a bunch of PVP assholes ganking everything in sight until another roving band of PVP assholes comes and blows them up, rinse, and repeat. I'm not saying turn it casual, but shit, some day I want to experience a working game like this without constantly having to worry about all of my shit being explodeded in 10 minutes while I was taking a shit because some asshat group of 12-year-olds wants to rape anything that's undefended while screaming "nub!"

That being said, the above sounds amazing, and I'd drool for a game like that that could break the mold of constant gank-fests.

It's a hybrid MMO, 3 continents. 2 Southern continents home to the 2 different factions. The third continent is FFA and used as territory control for guilds.

The northern continent is completely free of prebuilt structures. Beside the starting cities of the 8 races, and the main city of the 2 southern factions , any castles or settlements will be 100% player built.

Will you be able to enjoy the game as 100% PVE, absolutely. The size of each continent is huge, it's bigger than WoW's entire landmass including all the expansions. PVE content will be plentiful, and you will still be able to be involved with the endgame goings on by contributing to the market.

Much like in Eve Online, there are some people who stick to high security space and only do mining or mission running and trying their best to avoid all pvp, but in EVE people can suicide gank, just like in Arche Age. But in Arche Age it will be tougher if not impossible to do so. Thus allowing people who wish to not be involved in pvp to steer clear of it.

There is a justice system in place which means every time you gank someone the more your criminal faction goes up, and the higher the criminal faction the more you're an enemy to everyone and are limited to the places you are allowed to go. Also there is risk, if you die in a enemies territory and you have criminal faction you will be thrown in the enemies jail.

Being thrown in jail will cause you to have max criminal faction and the 2 factions will be red to you. So the gankers own faction will go red to them thus screwing themselves.

The third northern continent is home to no faction, and is able to be completley built up by the players allowing them to control territory and constuct cities and homes.
Player created factions can also be created, similar to corps in EVE.

The PVP rules on the third continent are no holds bar. If you build a house/settlement/city on the third continent it can be destroyed and there will be gank squads everywhere. But at no point will you ever lose loot in this game.

The worst that can happen to you, if you stay on the southern continents is you lose your NPC's, with the Justice system in place enemy players will kill or steal your npc's, and get free labor power from them.

Please note that the "factions" are more like nations. They are not fixed. They are not permanent. Racial allegiances are not permanent. And its entirely up with players on if let's say, some nation splits or some place of nation you are in allies themselves with opponents. It STARTS as two-way faction stuff. However it can eventually become three-way,ten-way,x-way faction stuff and those "nations" can make alliances, truces, conquer places, etc.

If you kill someone who is allied/truced/conquered, you will automatically go to jail and have 100% criminal faction and will be thrown out of your faction and become faction less.

IMO, it has one of the deepest political systems available in the current gaming world.

Now Jake Song has hinted that there will be hard core servers that will have no factions at all. It will have full loot PVP everywhere and can destroy anything everywhere, if your into that kinda thing..lol

Min-Hee Jeon (전민희), one of the best fantasy writers of her generation is now the lead lore writer of Arche Age. Apparently this has been in the works for a very long time as she has come out with a 1200 page novel based on ArcheAge’s official lore!

The book is called The Fir and the Hawk (전나무와 매)

In the book, Min-Hee Jeon spins stories set roughly 2000 years in the past, fleshing out details of ArcheAge’s ancient lore, including the reasons behind the schism between the Nuian and Harihari tribes. The book is meant to be a supplement to the lore included inside ArcheAge itself, helping to explain bits and pieces that wouldn’t normally be known. In this sense the book was written for fans of the game, but anyone can pick up the book and enjoy it even without playing ArcheAge itself.

If you have an account with XL games you will be getting this book for free, or you can order the book on AladinUS.com (Aladin is basically the korean version of Amazon).

    Ha Ha

The Maid girl is just like a Humunculus in TERA or a Retainer in FFXIV. Jake Song was demonstrating, that you can go online and check your maid girl, set up your shop, sell goods using the Iphone. In the background was the house that Jake Song built in the game.

XL games now has a English section for Arche Age, you can check it out here.

    http://www.archeage.com/en

Jake Song and the Dev team has also been reaching out to English/Western fan sites, doing interviews.

This interview was for Arche Age Source.

    http://archeagesource.com/topic/408-...bt3-questions/

It's been a while since CBT3 ended and we collected these questions, but XLGAMES was busy working on a revamped English website for ArcheAge, so there's a good reason this took so long to arrive.
Anyhow, enjoy this Q&A and be prepared for future closed beta tests!

Can we name our horses or boats?
    Yes.

ArcheAge's crafting system is currently very simple. Will it become more interactive, like Star Wars Galaxies' or Vanguard's?
We are working on strengthening the connection between crafting skills and the method by which they are performed.

Death penalties during CBT3 were light. Will there eventually be more severe penalties for dying, especially via PK/PvP?
Regarding death penalties, we are considering item durability decreases and extended resurrection times. We could also add corpse runs. (We are not considering strong penalties such as experience point loss or item drops.) We have to find a balance to make death meaningful but not force players away from the game.

Has XLGAMES considered a "hardcore" server type (like Diablo 2) for players who want death to be much more unforgiving than it currently is?
It is not something we have thought about yet, but we will when the right time comes.

Why would someone build a house on the northern continent if it's safer and probably cheaper (taxes, etc.) to do so on one of the southern continents?
[Answer not available from XLGAMES. Answer from ArcheAdmin: because the northern continent gives special advantages, and that's where castles can be created.]

Can labor points be increased beyond 100 somehow? Can they be regenerated faster somehow?
We are constantly working on balancing the labor system. We are considering ways to increase maximum labor points and also thinking of ways to decrease the labor point recharging time.

Can characters who enter into an in-game "marriage" share houses/bank accounts, etc.?
We can’t say when, but we will let family members to share houses and functions in the house.

What kind of rewards will be distributed through battlegrounds, or how will players use battleground points?
With the points earned from the battleground players will be able to buy various items (mounts, pets, armors, etc).

The sea separating the two southern continents felt somewhat small during CBT3. Will it be widened, or is the current size final?
The size of the sea between the two southern continents will stay as it is for now. However, the sea seperating the southern continents from the northern continent will be larger and there will be many islands. The sea will still be a place worth adventuring.

Will there be a ladder system for battlegrounds or PvP? Something like GuildWars or Lineage 2's Olympiad?
Currently we are not considering a ladder system, but accumulated activities in battlegrounds and PvP will be rewarded. In the long term, we think tournaments would be possible too.

Can ships be upgraded with better equipment?
More kinds of ships will be included, from small to large, with each having different performance characteristics. Players will be able to customize certain parts of their ships; however, we are not considering ship upgrades.

Teleport books threaten to make carriage and airship travel useless, and the world feel smaller overall. How will teleportation be kept under control?
Teleport books need money to use, but carriage rides are free. (Some parts of the world will be not be reachable with teleport books.) Transportation methods, like airships, will provide simple content that will entertain players who are on it.

How will court/jail summoning work? Are guilty players automatically summoned after evidence against them is submitted, or will guards or players have to catch the murderer?
    The guilty playe
r will not be summoned automatically. We will inform the guilty player to appear in court, and if they don’t they’ll be put on a 'Wanted' list and other players can hunt him down.

How will crafted gear match up against dungeon/raid gear?
We hope player-crafted items become a key aspect of in-game economy or combat, but if equipment was solely led by crafted items, it could become somewhat of a restriction to the growth of solo-playing characters. Thus items for simple leveling are also obtainable through quests or from monsters. Crafted items will be improvable with enhancement stones, whereas such easily obtainable items wouldn’t. Of course, some nice items will be exclusively obtainable from monsters with a high level of difficulty.

Here is another interview XL Games has done with a Russian Fansite.

    http://www.archeage-online.ru/c/arch...40/636217.html

    1) Will players have a possibility to build castles of arbitrary configurations on the northern continent from “building blocks”, similar to the Ultima Online? Or will they only be able to buy some preconfigured design? If custom designs will be possible, how will you limit the construction area? Will it be possible to build something like the “Great Chinese Wall”, crossing a whole continent from the west to the east?

The player can build the castle in whatever kind of form they want but just in the core part on their occupied territory (around 100m radius)

    2) You mentioned rare resources on the north continent previously. How they will be mined? Will players build mines, mine resources manually, or, maybe, resources will be just awarded according to the territory, controlled by a player?

It will be an extracting kind of form like mining or gathering. Automatic reward from the system would be tax.

    3) In closed beta 3 we have seen that equipment is color coded with white, green, blue and yellow colors. Could you elaborate on how players will be able to get items of every color type, and which color marks the most rare/precious equipment?

Each colors stands for the level of the item; White (general), Green (advanced), Blue (rare). You can earn item by either from hunting a monster or item crafting.

    4) Why do we need the durability of items, and how it will be possible to restore it? What will happen when durability will reach zero – will the item then break and disappear?

Durability of items can be restored through repair NPCs. When the durability turns 0, the item will not perform in the way they should, but will not break or disappear and can be restored after repair.

    5) In closed beta your ship was repairing itself automatically and it was possible to recall it from a fight anytime. Do you plan to fix it until the release? Will it be possible to destroy a ship completely?

Ship can be repaired through ship keeper NPC or with repair skill. The system will change to not allow ships to be recalled during battle. The ships are very important asset of players, so they won’t be destroyed completely in any way.

    6) In the last test we have noticed that ships are highly interactive, but controls have too much of an “arcade” feel to them. And the possibility to swim backwards did not look very natural. Shall we expect any changes to the ship control system? Will you implement some factors that can change speed of a ship, for example, speed and direction of wind?

Changes of ship control system are not planned for now. The speed of the ship is decided by the two sails and other additional factors that can change the speed are not in consideration.

    7) Will we get a possibility to build new types of ships in the release version of the game? Will they differ by size and speed? Do you plan to add different types of ammunition, for example, one type for damage to sails, and another for damage to the crew?

More kind of ships will be included, from small to large ships with each having all different performance. Players will be able to customize certain part of their ships. However, we are not considering the ship upgrade. Speedboat and ferry will be included. Harpoon will be loaded on ferry. (Not a weapon that can give damage)

    8) You have mentioned that initially players will be members of one of the two factions, but they will be allowed to create their own faction later on. How complicated will be the creation process? What players will need to do to join the player-created faction?

For a player to create their own faction, the player should own his/her own territory on Northern continent, and claim independence from the faction that he/she used to belong to. It is bit ambiguous to explain why and how difficult this process is for now. For a player to be affiliated in a faction, the player just needs allowance from the head of that faction (another player), but will have to leave the previous faction. 1 player in 1 faction is the principle.

    9) Will there be wars of different clans/ expeditionary force within one faction that Lineage players are used to?
Yes, in the Northern continent, wars between expeditionary forces will occur to win territory.

    10) Will there be a penalty in the form of jail at the north continent, or will it be a free-pvp zone?
There is no area where it is totally free from PvP. (PvP penalty is applied when player kills another player who’s in the same faction). This includes the Northern continent. However, most part of the Northern continent is PvP free. (PvP free area means PK between hostile factions are allowed without penalty). Certain factions, such as pirates might be free from PvP penalty. Also, blood print which works as the evidence of PK, cannot be find easily on sea, so sea can be felt relatively a PvP free area.

    Additional questions:

*1) Your answers in the last interview have made it clear that expeditionary force is basically a usual Lineage clan. This begs the question – what functions will you delegate to guilds?
There’s not much info about the guild system to reveal for now. Expeditionary will be introduced first.

*2) In the interview you have also mentioned upgradable “guild houses”, is it something similar to the guildhalls in Lineage2? What role will they play in the game?
We call what other MMOs call guilds as expeditionary in ArcheAge. Expeditionary will be provided of large and beautiful house where expeditionary members can use together.

*3) In the closed beta 3 one would need relatively small amount of resources to build a ship. Our testers could collect the necessary amount in 1 or 2 days. Will it stay like this in the release version?
Balancing will be tuned continuously. Anyone with just a little effort and time will be able to make a ship. There will be more things to produce other than ship.

*4) Many players in the closed beta thought that the death penalty system is too forgiving for a spiritual successor of Ultima Online. What penalties the game has after release? Do you consider introducing more severe death penalties at the north continent?
Regarding death penalties, we are considering item durability decreases and extended resurrection times. We could also add corpse runs. (We are not considering strong penalties such as experience point loss or item drops.) We have to find a balance to make death meaningful but not force players away from the game. In the Northern continent, there will be more opportunities to encounter players in other factions which mean more PvP. In such case, if death penalty is too severe, it would be very hard to enjoy the game. We will listen more about how the players think about the death penalty in ArcheAge.

*5) What is the main purpose of battlegrounds in the ArcheAge world? Will players have a possibility to get some items just for playing in battlegrounds; will they be able to get there the top-class equipment for their characters?
Battleground is for more fun and interesting PvP game play with various rules and systems. Points earned in the Battleground can be used to buy Battleground items. Battleground is the system to provide more fun game play. Too much reward can damage the original purpose of the system.

*6) After closed beta 3 we have the impression that labor points is the main and most important resource in the game. However, we were able to increase them easily by creating alts for resource gathering. Will you set some limits to prevent such tricks in the release?
We are consistently working on the balancing of labor system. We are considering ways to increase the maximum labor point, and also thinking of ways to fasten the labor point recharging time. The system will change to designate a certain character to recharge labor point, which means only one character can recharge labor point at one time.
    Stay tuned for more interviews!

Updated ability page and complete custom class list

I posted this before but with the new English website they have updated the ability combination section. Every single three ability combination now has a custom class name that reflects to the best of the definition to reflect what that set of three abilities will or could possibly do. You can mess around with it here: (In the advanced tab)

    http://www.archeage.com/en/contents/...fos/ability/11

    COM: combat >> MELEE SKILLS
"You can use destructive attack skills in a rage to various surrounding enemies at the same time and your attack speed can be temporarily increased to a great extent through haste."

    FORT: fortification >> TANK SKILLS
"You can use skills to increase your health and defense or to temporarily become invincible, and sometimes protect your mates by switching the surrounding enemy’s aggro to yourself."

    DTH: death >> DEATH SKILLS
"You can use the power of the dead to give powerful magic damage to enemies and make them tremble for fear.
You can also freely go to death and come back to life by making your soul leave and come back to the body."

MAG: magic >> DIRECT MAGICAL ATTACK SKILLS
"You can use powerful and traditional magic spells such as flare, meteor, and shield. You will have very balanced skills."
