According to foreign reports, XLGAMES is ready to announce a full conversion to a Free-to-Play model for the Korean server in June. The Korean server is currently on a Pay-to-Play (P2P) model, with the China and English servers’ models unconfirmed still.

The reports claim that while ArcheAge is a consistent title in the top 5 rankings of games played in Korea’s internet cafes (or PC bangs), its overall market share is still unable to topple rivals such as Aion and Blade & Soul. The game is also finding it tough to break into the top 10 games for overall market share.


Posted as a rumor at MMOCulture... but considering the original source came from Inven... chances are that XLGames are going to make the switch in June. I hope TRION decides to make the game B2P over here. I would really love to get a collector's edition of the game if possible.

The Hariharans (eastern humans) are very much into steam punk technology and are characterized in part by their technological advancement, as well as their pragmatic work ethic. Cars, airships, robots and all technological advancements that are rather familiar on the Eastern continent. There is even a massive zone that is a scrap yard on the eastern continent. So the Hariharan's have steam punk modern music vibe.

The Nuians (Western humans) have been nurtured by the eleves, so they have strong faith and conviction in the gods and use magic instead of technology. So the Nunians have a classical music vibe.

Now the world isn't perfect, there are some Nuians/Elves who desire the Hariharan technology.



As for the FTP, it's more like an unlimited free trial. Free players can play the game as much as they want, but have major restrictions placed on their accounts. Free players can't get labour points (so they can't do any labour skills), can't pay taxes (So they can't participate in anything), can't build houses or anything of the sort. More details will come in june, but it sounds like you might as well sub to the game.

Thanks so much for all of these updates Bombur. I've been quite busy the last couple of weeks so I haven't been able to keep up. I hope this game doesn't get delayed too much. The good news is that XL games is tackling both the Japanese and Chinese beta events at the same time. Japan's beta (publisher GameOn) will start on April 26 and last for three weeks. China's beta (publisher Tencent) will start on May 22 and last for 10 days.

If everything goes smoothly, I could see them releasing the game 3rd/4th quarter of this year to both regions; that leaves TRION. I could see us getting into beta sometime 3rd/4th quarter of this year... if everything goes smoothly for the other 2 regions. It would take a miracle for this game to get released this year in the States. Maybe TRION has the resources to make it happen.

Awesome! Thanks for the info Bombur. I can rest easy now knowing that it is part of the lore. Love steampunk fashion/design/technology. I hope everything goes smoothly in China so XLGames can start focusing on releasing this game in the West. I would really like to play ArcheAge again but something tells me I would have to buy an account.


I'm pretty sure the phone # will need a verification text. I remember when NCSoft made updates to their security/beta sign ups; they started using phone #'s as a way to verify the account. You only had like 2 minutes to enter the 5 digit code. Hmm... how to get into beta.

Crafting and Gear in ArcheAge

Intro

As of right now the beat gear in the game comes from crafting. You can get gear from other places like world bosses, pve instance dungeons, or from Honour points (PVP). The non-crafted gears are the equivalent of T2 lvl 50 crafted gear. Heroic World bosses can drop T3 lvl 50 gear but it is extremely rare.

The Crafting Process

First you collect the materials you need to create the first tier set (The lvl 20 set).Then from then on, you keep the old set to create a new tier set. From levels 20 until 40, there are 5 sets for each armor type (robe, leather, plate..).

e.g. to craft the lvl 24 set you need the lvl 20 set and materials.

The tiers go from :

T1 - lvl 20 set
T2 - lvl 24 set
T3 - lvl 30 set
T4 - lvl 34 set
T5 - lvl 40 set
T6 - lvl 44 set

Then the lvl 50 tiers.

T1 - Low
T2 - Med
T3 - High

Item rarities

The item rarities in game are the following (starting from common to most rare): General, Advanced, Rare, Ancient, Heroic, Unique, Relic, Wonder, Epic, Legendary, Mythical. Drops from instances and bosses can be up to Heroic. Only crafted gear can get you unique or higher.

You can upgrade your lvl 50 T3 crafted gear to better item rarities . But if you do, you have a chance of breaking it and you could lose all your items, even the old gear. When successfully upgrade they randomly reveal 2 hidden stats from +1-+9. You can upgrade as many times as you want, but it increases the chance of breaking. Through this upgrade process it should be possible to reach the Mythical rarity for the super lucky ones.

The stat/damage differences between the rarities are not that huge, here is a chart about the stat multipliers:



Crafting lvl 50 sets

Hardcore crafting starts with the crafting of the level 44 set, followed by the low level T1 50 sets, middle level T2 50 sets, and high level T3 50 sets.

In order to craft the lowest level T1 50 set you'll have to get a certain level 44 set, meaning that out of the 4 type of level 44 sets, only one can be upgraded to level 50.

There are 7 types of low level T1 50 sets, but only one of which can be upgraded to it's middle T2 level 50 counterpart, of which there are also 7, out of which also only 1 can be upgraded to the high level T3 50 set.

But the complications don't end there. It is also important that the crafter has a high enough crafting skill level so that the set items are at least blue, or preferably purple or gold, the best being the orange (item rarity).

Conclusion

As you can see ArcheAge has a hardcore crafting system, and it relies on a ton of RNG. So the beast gears in the game are next to impossible to get. The game is over 6 months old now and I have never seen anyone wearing a full set of lvl 50 T3 Orange gear. I have seen a few people in gold and purple T3 but not that much. The vast majority of players still use the T6 lvl 44 set as their endgame gear.

In other news, the cars have been a huge hit over in Korea. So Xl games has made them into mounts. Kinda funny considering here in the west people are upset by these cars..lol

-Car has a 5 sec cast time to be summoned

-Mount can be summoned instantly

-Flats forward speed 14-17 m/s(except some skill to use the speed according to the road conditions are not to be greatly affected)

-Hill forward speed 9-14 m/s(depending on the angle of elevation of the hill a little bit more severe speed deviation)

-Forward speed downhill 24-30 m/s(depending on the angle of climb speed downhill a little more severe deviation)

-Forward velocity of water 13-15 m/s(ankle level, the speed of the brook largely unaffected)

-Forward speed undersea 3-4 m/s(height affect water receives no hills to climb.)

-Can be affected by speed boost with material "burn-out"

-Cooling water needed to fix (medium material costs, around 10 Gold per unit)

-If the car gets destroyed, spare parts needed to repair

-Car HP: 15000

-Still high risk in PvP areas.

-The car is a huge money sink , coasting upwards of 50,000 gold, so only the rich will be able to get one of these. The cool feature is you can carry up to 3 trade packs at one(the more you carry the slower you go, but it's still cool).
