Final Fantasy XI has stopped working error message on startup

    Hi all

I decided to return to FFXI after trying FFXIV (no comment on that one) i use windows vista home premium so i downloaded the playonline viewer from playonline site,i installed all the discs i owned which is all content up to WotG

My problem is when i try to open FFXI to start it says 'Final Fantasy XI has stopped working' and then says windows will let me know if it finds a problem then closes the program

Anyone have any idea what i can do to solve this?

    Thanks in advance

Are you trying to launch it in windowed or full screen mode? Try changing it to the opposite.

had a look at changing this as i recall the option is in the FFXI Config but this also does the same thing 'FFXI Config has stopped working' , have tried uninstalling and reinstalling 3 times and no joy
i use ATI Radeon 4600 HD graphics card which i wouldnt think should be incompatible as when i am installing the games the game images are displayed in the background (is this a sign that graphics card is compatible?)

Your graphics card could be the problem but it's unlikely if you've played fairly recently and it worked fine. Try downloading the Legacy drivers here and make sure your graphics card is properly configured in ATI's GUI.

Have you tried launching the game with Windower?

I wouldn't say it sucks, more or less unfinished. Bump this thread if you need anymore help.

Instead of using your discs. Follow these steps.

    - Completely uninstall FFXI from your machine. Use CCleaner and uninstall EVERY expansion pack individually. (i.e. run the uninstaller for every expansion pack. Once they're all gone, delete your PlayOnline/FFXI folder from your Program Files, or wherever you pathed them originally.
    - Download PlayOnline Viewer here.
    - Download the complete FFXI torrent here. Follow the HowToInstall.txt.

Make sure the launch program (whether it's plain POL or Windower's launcher) is set to "Run as Administrator".

If you're using Crossfire, disable it.

    Else try this:

Right Click on My Computer and Properties.
Go to Advanced Tab and Performance Settings.

    Data Execution Prevention.
You still want 'Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:'

Add Pol.exe to the list below ^^
    http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/gam...-get-work.html

The torrent might fix the issue since they updated some .exe which are causing these issues.

If everything fails, install a real OS.
