Nitpicking, but I thought Godzilla was created from the bombs hitting Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Has he ever been a prehistoric reptile?

Yes. In one movie. Godzilla vs. Mecha-King Ghidora, people from the future went back in time to get a T-Rex from a island during WW2 and transport it to the sea of Japan to stop it from becoming Godzilla.

Even in the normal ones wasn't it just a prehistoric dinosaur that was left unfound that got turned into Godzilla because of radiation?

    From wiki:
Although his origins vary somewhat from film to film, he is always described as a prehistoric creature, who first appeared and attacked Japan at the beginning of the Atomic Age. In particular, mutation due to atomic radiation is presented as an explanation for his size and powers.

It looks like everyone's favorite giant destructive lizard Godzilla will invade San Diego Comic-Con this year! According to our friends at Latino Review, not only will Legendary Picture be showing off some of Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim awesomeness, but they will also be bringing Godzilla along for the ride!

Apparently the production company has put together a sweet-ass presentation to show off to all fans in attendance. The movie is being directed Gareth Edwards (Monsters) from a script written by David Goyer (The Dark Knight) and re-written by Max Borenstein.

Edwards previously said the classic big screen monster will be handled with respect explaining,

I guess I will say I’m highly aware – and everyone involved is incredibly aware – of everyone’s opinions on what this film has to do and what it has to be. And no one will do anything but the right thing. Without addressing anything specific, everyone knows how important is to get it right.

Everyone involved knows what the film has to be, what’s important to me is that, as well as spectacle, you have to give a shit about what’s happening and why.

    Ehh. It's okay.

Do not waste your time if what you want is a "monster" movie. Despite it's name Monsters is very much so not about monsters. In essence it is a story about human relationships. Specifically between a guy and a girl. The monster aspect is just the means to an end. So if that's what you want check it out, just be aware what you'll get. It is not a movie to watch for blood, action, and explosions.

I like good movies that dont rely on Michael Bay cash burning CG on screen. But I have to say I thought monsters was boring, and the ending downright goofy. So meh. I wouldn't watch it again.

Damn all of you suck with the nostalgia critic hate. I don't always agree with his reviews (ID4 being one of them) but the guy makes me laugh. That's all I care about. You guys probably also hate on Spoony for his FF10 and FF8 reviews.

I can suspend disbelief for a giant iguana rampaging about NYC.
I can not suspend disbelief for said giant iguana hiding in NYC, secreting human pregnancy hormones, and slipping on gumballs.

That is why the Emmerich version sucked. Well, and most of the actors.

Unfolding to Robert Oppenheimer‘s “I am become death the destroyer of worlds” speech, a surprise, Comic-Con exclusive Godzilla trailer just gave us our first look at the great lizard. And appropriately enough, Godzilla absolutely brought the house down.

The trailer started with some footage of huge urban devastation, and then as we saw more and more shots of buildings smashed to pieces, we catch a glimpse of train, apparently trampled by a giant foot and then a building with a huge hole through the middle.

As though Godzilla had walked right through it.

And then, a curving shot finds Godzilla’s body, apparently dead in the ground – arms revealed as Oppenheimer talks about Vishna’s many arms. Cut to a logo and the famous Godzilla roar as we know and love it, timed just perfectly to Oppenheimer’s speech.

And then we were back to a shot of Godzilla, alive. The trailer tracked up his back and came to head level, just in time for him to turn around, show his face, his slightly snub snouted face, and roar again.

It’s an astonishing creature design, very grounded.

And Edwards took to the stage after the trailer and echoed this, saying that the film is indeed grounded, and “there’s nothing sci-fi about it.”

The trailer was then repeated to audience excitement just about off the charts.
