    Default Battle Adjustments (02/01/2011)

    The forthcoming minor version update will usher in a host of battle-related refinements, including increased experience point yield and eased skill gain conditions.

    The forthcoming minor version update will usher in a host of battle-related refinements, including increased experience point yield and eased skill gain conditions.

    Increased Experience Point Yield

    The amount of experience points obtained by defeating monsters in non-Abyssea areas will be revised across the board. For instance, defeating an "Even Match" foe will yield roughly double the current amount of experience points. This adjustment will also benefit dragoon wyverns and adventuring fellow NPCs.

    Eased Skill Gain Conditions

    At present, only by fighting foes rated "Even Match" or stronger can players raise their combat and magic skills to their upper limits. With the February version update, however, this requirement will be reduced to "Decent Challenge." Further, players will find that actions targeting themselves or party members will raise the corresponding skill at a faster rate. Once these changes come into effect, players can expect larger figures to accompany each rise in skill. Puppetmasters should also be pleased to know that automatons, too, will benefit from this adjustment.

    I'm so glad I didn't waste a single minute skilling up anything besides my main job, and i'm kinda meh when it comes to increased xp. Great for new players and subjobs sure, but it the long run it means more retards camping shit I need.

    Edit: Oh yeah, they kinda announced the xp/skill gains in the newsletter they sent out a few hours ago. They said they were almost doubling the xp you can get in the newsletter, this wasn't mentioned on twitter when they tweeted about xp/skill gains. Kinda spoiled today's update for myself by reading the newsletter D:

    Its so ironic they mention Adventuring Fellow NPCs when they've neglected to raise their level cap along with ours

    HP and stuff went up after they got a certain amount of exp, would reset if they die/change areas/dismiss etc.

    Also in before "easy mode"

    I hope healing/enhancing skill up at a decent rate now w/o having to exploit Beseiged.

    Hopefully its easier to skill some shit up, parrying sitting at 277 right now and it would be so baller to have that capped lol.

    Does this mean that healing/enhancing magic get a boosted rate?

    Also looks like they might raise the .5 skillup cap

    Only time I felt like I was wasting my time skilling was Parrying (and probably it's the same by what others say, Guard), because the proc rate no matter what you do is abysmal. Every other skill I've tried I'm sure I can cap by actually PLAYING the job. You remember how it was before Level Sync, Astral Flow and Abyssea? You went out to xp/farm/fight NMs and by the time you got next job level the skills you were actively using were catching up (and the skills you don’t bother using, means you don’t care about them that much, no?). By the time I’ve finished meriting my RDM75, my enhancing and healing magic were already capped, etc. and so on, so on for other jobs without any PLbot or Besieged-skeleton spamming.
    These days if you’ve got party leader’s tag in Abyssea you get tells from random lv40 guys wanting to come leech off you (half of them not even offering any gil or key bit*ing) or you get people warp out to ‘dump merits’ and come back /anon pretending they’re doing any damage to mobs.
    And when they finally leech off that lv90 they go whining to SE about how hard their life is skilling up. I’m happy about SE making my life easier, why not? But I’m not happy that SE is doing it to cater for idiot couch potato crybabies pouring out of abyssea. It’s the same as with Pet Food Eta: “What?! We have to go out to some obscure places to farm ingredients for this stuff?! Nooo, let’s idle in Jeuno and wait for it to drop off some NPC or MMM!”
    Oh, don’t get me wrong, I did my fair share of key bit*ing for subs or red/grellow jobs but I’m not blaming anyone for my low skill. I’m enjoying my time in Terrigan/Garlaige/Boyahda/NMs etc to get some rest from abyssea grind.
    Anyone complaining about skillup, do you even know there were high level mobs added outside abyssea in WoTG and ToAU with every level cap update?
    Unless someone’s starting playing now, FFXI is in god mode already.
    Fix things for newbies, sure, as I feel sorry for them these days, but stop encouraging idle-leeching even more.

    It wouldn't actually impact your game experience at all, because parrying rate is floored in every situations that matters unless you're a NIN or SAM wearing a full parrying skill build.

    As much as i hate people who whine after they leave an Abyssea party about skilling up... as if its any fault but their own.

    Skilling up has always been a slow punch in the dick, even leveling normally back in the day, if you ever got a "good" exp party back in the day you could quickly find yourself lacking in Defensive, Healing, and in some cases with jobs who use multiple weapons, Weapon skill.

    For instance, take jobs like WAR, who now in the Abyssea age have access to several red and blue triggers, not all WARs kept up every skill, especially things like say Club, or Staff. Or MNKs needing the same previous two.

    Or mages in General, like WHM who are needed for hexa Strikes every now and again.

    I just think its funny people are bitching about skilling up in the first place, you got to level a job at 88mph and now you have to go and skill shit up, deal with it.
