Nothing better to do, easy to get stuff accomplished considering you can do everything relevant in a single day at reset, no subscription (technically) so it doesn't cost anything to log in for that one day to spin the roulette of RNG then wait till next week. At least those are my reasons for now. I understand people still find enjoyment in doing the regular strike playlist or PVP or whatever but frankly that just seems tedious to me. Either way unless House of Wolves changes the formula drastically (Bungie has made some promises so we'll see) that pattern of logging in for a day then doing something else for the rest of the week probably won't change.

Edit: I would compare it to XIV but even in XIV you can grind the equivalent of Vanguard Marks for your other jobs. In Destiny you can't even do that because marks are character specific and you can't buy Titan gear on your Hunter, etc.

I'm done until HoW too. Downloaded the ffxiv trial and ended up buying the game after hitting the 20 cap on day 2. Fun so far, lots of content. I would sub to destiny if I could get the much content from the traveler.

I've played CoD games up until probably 2x the prestige cap. I just can't get into PvP on this game. Once I grew bored of nukes or OP killstreaks I moved on to S&D and S&D HC. There's not that option in crucible plus heavy and special screw you over even if you get the better match with better gun play.

To be fair, if I made a game that required you to do something once a week and had a 1/50 chance of getting the thing you needed and you needed 4 of said thing would you really find it weird that it took you eight to twelve months to get to the point where you ran out of things to do? There are things you can do in between but ultimately it comes down to the Nightfall/Raid which are on weekly lockouts. If you don't get what you need from those then you have to wait another week to try again. Stuff like this pads out the length of time you continue to play the game but actual continuous playtime is still relatively low. The only time you play for a prolonged period of time is if you want to grind out rep or marks, but really they aren't even necessary.

Yeah but if you like the game enough to continue to try to get that stuff, is it really that horrible? If the compulsion is still there four, six, eight months later, they probably did something right.

I guess horrible is the wrong word to use. It's more like the game is so mediocre that it's a huge let down from "what could have been"l. It's not particularly bad, well at least some parts aren't, but there's no real drive to continuously play. Like I said earlier it's to the point that it's not really that much effort to just log in for a day and get your weekly shit done then forget about it till next Tuesday. The reason people are still in it at this point isn't because the game is just downright awful, it's because there's real potential for the future so you do the bare minimum to stay up to date in the hopes that one day you will want to play for the other 6 days of the week.

See, it's not about it being a shitty game in my opinion. It's about it being an empty game. We are 5 months in, they've made A BILLION DOLLARS, and have done nothing in terms of adding shit to this game. When nearly any other game out there makes a DLC, you get an good amount of content and a good story. We still have nothing.

I wasn't really arguing against it being mediocre, or an empty husk compared to what it could've been, though. I simply said it was kind of hilarious to call it a shitty game if you're still playing it six months later. If it was truly horrid it wouldn't have sold 16 million copies. It may not be the best thing since sliced bread but it sure as hell isn't a shitty game. Empty? Unpolished? Unfinished? Sure. Shitty? Nah, I don't clock over twelve days of play time on games I would call "shitty".

I'd argue that a majority of those sales came from empty promises and straight up lies based on early footage and E3 interviews, etc. Diablo 3 was a god awful game at launch and for a while after but still sold a shitload of copies as well. Doesn't mean it wasn't unanimously agreed upon that the game was bad. Bungie had some good faith built up from earlier games like Blizzard did with D3. To say that 16 million copies sold means it isn't bad is kinda missing the big picture. Really if we had the data I'd be more interested in seeing how many of those 16 million copies still play the game on even a weekly basis, or how many copies were returned/traded in for something else. In this generation of Pre-order bonuses being so common place, initial sales aren't really a good indicator of anything except hype. Retention is what really matters.

That said, I pretty much agree with Myrrh. The game has a good strong skeleton for a base, it just needs some real meat on it's bones. It really seems like Bungie is purposefully starving it's own game but that's entering tinfoil hat territory.

So LFG sucked yesterday. Tried to get a single Crota hm done. Spent like 2 hours with one group and they got to Death singers before falling apart. The leader tried rebuilding but after one guy comes in with a thick redneck accent spouting off some over the top racist shit I couldn't stand it anymore.

I leave and try and find a Crota only group and jump in with a bunch of UK people. Their strategy was sound execution was not. I start to examine them and notice almost everyone doesn't have max weapons and our highly prized gjallahorns didn't even have Wolfpack unlocked. I just turned off my system at that point. I wanted to try and get at least 1 or 2 more primary weapons but that wasn't worth it.

Ran Ir Yut > Crota last night. It took longer for one guy to clear our all the yellow bar enemies (after Ir Yut dies) to trigger the next phase than it did to kill Crota. Fucking stupid.

It's true their Campaigns are not the cinematic masterpieces people like to remember them as, but Destiny doesn't even make an attempt.
