I'll have to take a look at the flashback then. It did kind of look like Tarlok to me. And it seems kind of odd there'd be two people with the ability to bloodbend.

Amon = Tarlok. He's not blocking bending, he's stealing it. Or at least the spiritual essence behind it. It's how he's able to beat an Avatar, and bloodbend without the full moon.

There are varying levels of bending strength. Remember there were only two other people(we know of) to ever bloodbend, the old woman and Katara, who learned it from the old woman. It may be that the full moon was never actually necessary for bloodbending, it's just that the old woman wasn't strong enough to do it without that boost in power. If true that would mean anyone with sufficient strength could bloodbend any time, though that level of strength is likely very rare.

At least, I think that's a lot more reasonable theory than Tarrlok being Amon and secretly amassing bending power.

Absolutely LOVED this theory and I could see it going just like that.

    Spoiler: show
I do find it odd that we haven't seen Katara, Aang's wife during this whole thing. Something tells me she didn't just become a 'housewife' and sit back, taking care of the children, and most likely was there with Sokka, Toph, and Aang. I'm really, really hoping we get more expanded stuff in the next episode.

Back to the full moon being needed for blood bending, didn't Katara blood bend the ships captain of the southern sea raiders trying to look for the man who killed her mother with Zuko in tow, when there wasn't a full moon? Can't remember if she actually blood bended the man himself when she confronted him the following day.

There was a full moon, there is in fact a scene that episode where they fly past it.

Wow, good episode. Little to no teen angst romance crap.

    Spoiler: show

Tarlokk's strategy for getting power for benders legally is brilliant. Hell, he might even be planting some extra "Equalist" movement around the town to make them seem worse/more prolific than they actually are. After all, Korra rightly makes the observation after catching some that she didn't see his taskforce OR the cops, which now work under him and were much quicker to deploy under Lin.

So Tarlokk increases the threat of Equalists in order to start persecuting ALL nonbenders in a legal fashion through his position as councilman, thereby giving benders all the power. What a troll. Even if he didn't plant extra "Equalists", same thing. That's the problem with having a doddery old council where only two people on opposing sides are the go-getters.

Man, I can't wait to see what actually happens. Next saturday plz. (I'm still annoyed with lack of character development, hopefully we'll get a LOT next week).

This only makes sense though if he's retarded or working for Amon. Because all he is doing is pushing all those non benders into actually becoming equalists. The only thing making Benders look ok here is that the Avatar showed up, fought against it, and promised to fix things for the non benders. If she hadn't done that, then a lot of people would be joining the equalists. If you're gonna get punished for being one, might as well be one, no?

Not necessarily. He could just be trying to make more of a push for oppressing people without bending powers. If his measures result in more people without bending powers joining the equalists, then he can keep pushing for more and more oppressive laws without any resistance from the rest of the council/majority of the city. For all we know, he's the type of character who thinks that benders are superior to non-benders, so he has his own agenda which just happens to help Amon's.

Oppressing them won't mean shit though if they are in a war against you. Noone will care about a curfew if they are planning on tazing you and taking over the city lol

Yet open rebellion will only fuel the fears of benders, including those occupying the council and other elite positions, which Tarrlok can take advantage of to gain more authority.

Whats the point of authority though when the town is being destroyed? I dont understand how he would benefit from open war unless he has some master plan to wipe out the equalists or something.
