Story:

Betrayed by his own kind and left for dead on a desolate planet, Riddick (Diesel) fights for survival against alien predators and becomes more powerful and dangerous than ever before. Soon bounty hunters from throughout the galaxy descend on Riddick only to find themselves pawns in his greater scheme for revenge. We're all following along with Vin Diesel and writer/director David Twohy's journey in making the next Riddick film. The working title for the film is The Chronicles of Riddick: Dead Man Stalking. They are talking again, this time saying the film will have more of a Pitch Black feel to it and that they are going for an R-Rating because of money and they won't settle or negotiate with this. In the last movie, the assistant to the Lord of the Underverse was Furyian as well. He told riddick to go and he walked out of the cave and died in the sun.

Last announcement was written off as "fake" by many, but Vin says filming for the third film will start this summer.

Vin Diesel revealed today that Riddick 3 is scheduled to begin filming this summer, and that it will have an R rating. Earlier we reported that Diesel was attached to star in an action-comedy called The Machine from the producers of The Pacifier. That film sounded pretty interesting, but I prefer Diesel in a more hardcore action film like the Fast and Furious franchise. Today we have some news about the third film in The Chronicles of Riddick, a project which the actor has been interested in geting made for a long time

Diesel posted a new photo on his Facebook page along with the following message:

D T the writer/director just landed in New York with the good news. We can start filming this summer. However, there is a catch... in order for us to make a true R rated film, I must work for scale upfront. Not unlike the "Find me Guilty" experience (which I wouldn't have changed for the world)...

Money is always second to art, integrity and spirit... but the real issue is deeper. Can I suspend my life, to momentarily venture to that dark place... called Riddick.

Now, I need to hear from Our collective... you.

Riddick originated the character in Pitch Black and then reprised the role in 2004's The Chronicles of Riddick. Those films were relatively succesful, but the problem has been Diesel's insistance that the third film be rated R. Based on the message above it looks as though David Twohy has told Diesel that filming can begin this summer thanks to the actor taking scale upfront instead of his normal fee.

By coincidence, I just saw the first two last night (got a free streaming rental of Pitch Black from buying scott pilgrim and it was about to expire, had the second one).

Yes, he was like a cult leader at the end and all the other main characters from Pitch Black and the bad guys were dead.

They were brainwashed with underverse tech to believe the religion/the underverse was real(?). I doubt he could disband it. Maybe trick them into flying into a sun or something, but he wouldn't let them go on or just quit.

I really hope it's not a prequel.
