I think it's time to upgrade my PC been 2years. But even tho I work in IT, I don't follow up much on Hardware. So once again i'm turning over on BG

Here is what i need of a PC (i'm canadian so please use ca.partpicker.ca)

    1) Running FFXIV at 60FPS without much problem with the highest settings
    2) Since I do work at home I need space and memory to run some Virtual Machines
    3) I want this PC to also act as a plex server so need space
    4) Intel CPU only
    5) Looking around 1k-1.5k BIG MAX (if you can go lower then 1k it's perfect)
    6) I already have 2 21 inches monitors, so i won't need new
    7) No Windows (wink)

Also I've never assembled before Is it really just "Inserting fragile part y into slot x" like I have heard from some other places.

Looking to add more later on when I get more cash.

The first thing that stands out is that you've selected triple channel RAM for a dual channel board. You'll want to look for 8GB (2 x 4GB) or 16GB (2 x 8GB) depending on how much you need.

Edit: One more suggestion I'd add is to pick up an SSD if it can fit into your budget. If you need that 3TB for storage, then pick up a smaller SSD, such as 256GB or 512GB, for your OS and use that large drive for your storage. Once you've seen the performance of a good SSD, you'll never want to go back.

SSDs are cheap as fuck nowadays. We got into a conversation about it at work and I decided to check Amazon. Ended up grabbing a 500GB Samsung 840 Evo for only $230.

They've finally come under 1$/2GB in the last year or so in many cases, everyone's system should have one now.

Even a 100-120 for OS/apps is enough. I have one for OS and one for my main games, love them.

Yeah I already have a 256 in my desktop so I'm just going to use the 500 for all my games so I can stop having to constantly move them around between drives as my SSD starts getting filled up.

You keep your steam games on SSD?

Whatever games I'm currently playing sit on my SSD then I transfer them onto my disk drive if it's something I want to keep around.

I'm planning on getting at least a 256gb ssd for steam and putting my "main" games on it. All other games I want downloaded will sit on the 3tb.

Came across a pretty nifty site for those wanting to build their own rig, but are a bit out of the loop in terms of pricing/performance. Has templates to help you jump start your list.

Much higher individual drive performance compared to a HDD. At this point, read/write performance tends to be significantly better as well, but what's made SSDs stand out from the start is the massively lower access speed. A SSD is a bigger improvement over a HDD, in that respect, than a HDD is over an optical drive. The impact tends to be most noticeable when your PC is doing something that's hitting up a number of small files.

They're also dead silent, shock proof, sip power (and produce little heat as a result), etc. The downside is still primarily cost/GB.

Since having one I can't stand being on any machine that doesn't have one. Isiolia made all of the points needed. And with them being as low as $80 after rebate for a 256gb (average quality) they are very affordable. Can even get them as low as $50 without a rebate for a 128gb, but probably below average quality.

Once you get your first taste of an SSD, you won't ever want to go back to using a mechanical HDD as a primary drive.

God. I have a budget but may need to just suck it up and drop money for a ssd. bG has yet to sway me into the wrong direction.

I will post the pc I'm planning to get when I'm at home.
