2011 MLB Season Discussion: Joey Votto MVP Edition

Opening Day is tomorrow! The last happy day to be a Pirates fan.

Time to post our season predictions will most likely be incredibly incorrect, and then we can discuss how amazing Joey Votto is, and what year he'll become a Yankee.

    National League (The Relevant One):

    NL East: Phillies
    NL Central: Brewers
    NL West: Giants
    NL WC: JOEY VOTTO

    American League:

    AL East: Red Sox
    AL Central: Twins
    AL West: Rangers
    AL WC: A's

    Cy Young:
    NL: Big Time Timmy Jim
    AL: Verlander

    MVP:
    NL: Votto (lol)
AL: Mauer (lol maybe if they play all away games)

    5 Surprising Predictions:
    1. Orioles finish better .500 and in 3rd place, over the Rays.
    2. Aroldis Chapman gets the closer role (this wouldn't be surprising if there were any other manager)
    3. A's make the playoffs
    4. Joe Blanton makes the All Star Game, because it's all about who you associate yourself with.
    5. Cephius cries as the Sox win the pennant. (this isn't really that surprising.)

Ceph don't you fucking touch the thread title.

You're probably the one who made my (other) fantasy team draft both Tex and Votto

    NL Central: Cards
    NL West: Giants
    NL WC: Brewers

    AL East: Red Sox
    AL Central: White Sox
    AL West: As
    AL WC: Yankees

Please God trade him to the Yankees: Felix Hernandez

Please God trade him to the Reds: David Eckstein

Surprises of '11: Blue Jays finish in 3rd place, A's run away with the AL West, the Mets score more runs than the Phillies

2011 draft, Cephius edition: FUCK YOU GERRIT COLE

Lockout status: LOL NVM THATS FOOTBALL

EDIT: Oh yeah, MVPs. I'll take A-gonz and Tulo

I haven't had time to invest in paying attention to what most of the teams have done during the off-season, so my only prediction is that I'll wake up at 5AM on Saturday morning to catch the first game of the season for the Sox.

Of course I barely know anything about the AL, but...

    NL Beast: Phillies
    NL Central: Reds
    NL West: Padres
    NL WC: Giants

    AL East: BoSox
    AL Central: Twins
    AL West: Athletics
    AL WC: Rangers

    NL CY: Lincecum
    AL CY: King Felix

    NL MVP: Jason Heyward
    AL MVP: Mauer? Idk

    Predictions:
    1. Hamels will have the second best season among the Phils pitchers (save for Halladay); reporters will still talk about his "mental issues" after every bad outing
    2. Mets will finish last in the NL East
    3. There will be a no-no or perfect game in April
    4. The Reds & Cards will engage in another bench-clearing brawl this season
    5. Ben Francisco wins the starting job in RF for good and becomes the top offensive bat for the team (lol)

Can't wait. Was able to afford a 20-game pack this season, so I'm very excited to get a chance to take in a bunch of live baseball this year.

    NL Wildcard: Braves

NLDS: Phillies def Reds, Braves def Giants
    NLCS: Phillies def Braves

    Surprising Predictions:
Felix gets traded to the Yankees, runs off win after win, and steals the Cy Young as they almost win the AL East.

Breg, just thought I would remind you that the offer is still open to jump on the Philly bandwagon as soon as the Cubs disappoint you one too many times.

So I'll see you in like May?

    ALC: Detroit
    ALW: Oakland
    ALWC: New York

    NLE: Philadelphia

    NLW: Los Angeles
    NLWC: Atlanta

    ALMVP: Cabrera
    NLMVP: Pujols

    Crazy predictions:

Votto will not continue to hit for a HR/F rate that has never been sustained by anyone other than a roided-up Barry Bonds.

Heyward will show an awful lot of people that you can't combine a level swing with a propensity for swinging at low pitches, hit more than 50% of your balls in play on the ground, and post a line significantly better than the .849 OPS he posted last year.

    * 45 out of 45 (100%) have the Red Sox winning the AL East
    * 42 out of 45 (93%) have the Red Sox in the World Series
    * 33 out of 45 (73%) have the Red Sox winning the World Series
    ESPN "experts."

It's amazing how they've become this unbeatable force after replacing two really productive players with two really productive players. They'll probably have a healthy Youk and Pedroia, but injuries are gonna bite them in the ass like it does everyone else. But, hurrhurr, Murderers Row redux!!

    Rockies over Cubs
    Rockies over Philly

    Sockz over Texas
    Twins over A's

Jeter spontaneously combusts after batting .128 to start the first half of the season
The Brewers still have pitching issues
    Prince Fielder eats a cheeseburger
The Pirates finish with a better record than the Mets

In what should make many people in SF happy, your soon to be 2011 ROTY Brandon Belt made the 25 man team and will be starting at first base. Huff will be starting in Right Field till Cody Ross is back.
