Not saying I think that the theory is true, but you're assuming that Sansa will have been revealed to be Sansa again by then, unless the faceless men know who she really is, they'll be asking Arya if she knows Alayne Baelish, or whatever her bastard name is supposed to be, can't remember off hand right now.

About the Lightbringer theory. The only reason I'm skeptical of the theory is because the TV show did not introduce Eddards' sword Ice. The TV shows creators have knowledge regarding which story archs are important, so they wouldn't leave out Ice unless it was meaningless.

I soo wished they brought up Ice. It was so damn cool, and gave me a reason to hate the Lannisters even more when they broke down Eddard's valyrian heirloom.

Ned had Ice in the show, but it wasn't talked about. If you didn't know he was sweeping nigga's heads off with Ice from the books, then you wouldn't know that it was anything other that a really fucking big sword. I actually had to explain this to my mom when she was watching the first season without having read the books, although she is fully caught up by now.

The TV show.also hasn't really emphasized the prophecies at all and didn't even mention the forging prophecy if I recall.

Non-Book readers I've watched with noticed it was his own sword. Your mom just sucks

The folks of the Vale were happy enough with Lysa. Somehow, given the choice between Petyr and Sansa, I think they'd be overjoyed to pledge themselves to the neice of their murdered liege lady. But maybe she tells them about how Lysa killed Lord Arryn, so I dunno.

Think I'm going to get all five, hardcover. I'd hate to have a bunch in paperback and 6/7 hardcover.

i'd have to go back and check again to be 100% sure but i am fairly certain the sword is never referred to by name in the show. don't even think it's mentioned as being valyrian steel.

And they were aware of it? From what I remember while reading I'd gotten the impression that their training in an almost literal sense makes them entirely new people that throw their old lives away to the point of not even having the memories. Is that way off?

^ I think you're correct. Its why the Kindly Old Man was upset at Ayra when she killed the dude from the Nights Watch. She was doing it because "Ayra would have".

Sitting here reading the first book I literally feel like I'm re-watching season 1 they're so identical. What should stop me from just picking up book 3 and beginning from the most current episode?

Millions of reasons. Don't do it.

There's pretty significant flashbacks/dreams even in Book 1 that never made it into the show. Plus characters in Book 3 don't exactly match up to the show. You'll be very confused by the differences in Shae, Talisia being Jeyne instead, etc.

Just trust us on this one, keep reading.

backstory? you'd be missing a lot of details and histories that really make the show enjoyable to show watchers.

Fuck it, caved and bought the first 3 hardcovers. I get easily distracted whenever I'm reading something, but I vow to finish all 5 books before book 6 comes out.

Was reading the history of westeros on the wiki page and came across something interesting about house Bolton which may or may not be known and can somewhat explain their treason to house stark.

    From the wiki
    Spoiler: show
Approximately a thousand years ago, the Boltons finally swore fealty to the Kings in the North and agreed to abandon their practice of flaying their enemies. However, three hundred years later the Boltons rose in rebellion against the Starks. The Stark armies besieged the Dreadfort for four years before the Boltons finally capitulated and dipped their banners once more. For many centuries the Boltons remained loyal to the Starks, although rumors persisted that they continued to flay their prisoners in secret, and maintain a hidden chamber in the Dreadfort to display the skins of their enemies.

Apparently they rebelled twice and perhaps were waiting for an opportunity to do so again which would explain why roose betrayed the Starks and seized the opportunity to be the main house in the north.

Most kingdoms in Westeros have a historically opposing family to the main family.

    Martells have the Yronwoods.
    Tullys have the Freys.
    Tyrells have the Florents.
    Targaryens have the Blackfyres.
    Starks have the Boltons.

Each family should have at least one but those are the ones I can remember right now.
