The highly anticipated fourth season of Arrested Development is currently being shot. It was initially announced that we would get 10 new episodes in the season, but you know what's better than 10? How about 13?! That's right, according to one of the stars, David Cross, there's so much story to tell that they may end up making 3 extra episodes to tell it! Here's what he had to say in a recent interview with Rolling Stone when he was asked if 10-episodes was still the plan,

I think it's going to be 13 episodes, not 10. There's too much story. Some characters will have two-parters. Everybody sort of participates, sometimes in a bigger way and sometimes in a tiny little thread that goes through everybody else's stories.
When asked about the new series being more serialized he said,

I'm not gonna divulge anything, but I know what the stories are and what Mitch [Hurwitz] is doing, and it's so layered. It's really audacious and amazing. I think a lot of people will miss the work that is involved, the story, the Venn diagrams that are being created, the domino effect that characters have with each other in their various episodes. I know what he's doing, and this has never been done on a TV show like this. This makes Lost look like a Spaulding Grey monologue. You'll have to watch each episode more than once.
As of right now, no release date has been announced, but all of the episodes are expected to be released at once on Netflix in early 2013!

The fourth season of Arrested Development is currently shooting, and it's hard to convey the incredible excitement and anticipation that I feel. I honestly can't believe it's happening, but it is! And in the near future we'll all be able login to our Netflix accounts, sit back and enjoy all ten episodes at once!

In a recent interview between Vulture and the show's creator Mitch Hurwitz it was revealed that these ten episode will serve as the first act of a movie that everyone wants to do. When asked if this fourth season would be a farewell to the characters or the beginning of a new chapter he said,

The episodes are an outgrowth of the design of what we hope will be the movie. They precede it. They function as an act one of a movie that we all want to do, but haven't "sold" yet. The episodes take the audience through the experiences of the characters since the family "fell apart" and how they're brought together to deal with their new problems. I would give you a hint as to what those problems are, but, really, why rob the fans of being disappointed when they see it on Netflix.
I don't see why a movie wouldn't happen! I would be shocked and disapointed with the Hollywood system... more than I already am. Hurwitz went on to talk about a few other things saying,

Because of the nature of the new series — it's almost an anthology version of the show with each episode focusing on a particular character and where they've been since the family fell apart six years ago — we didn't really have many of our principal characters together until the twelfth or thirteenth day of shooting.
We also previously heard that there might end up being more than ten episodes in the season, when asked about that he said,

Our initial order is for ten, but the beauty of Netflix is that we theoretically have an opportunity to provide more material for them. We're definitely shooting some special material just for them. But their whole outlook completely mirrors the ambitions of this show. [Netflix chief content officer] Ted Sarandos and I have really spent a lot of time finding the ideal way to tailor the show to their platform and I think we have something that embraces the new medium. When we did the show the first time we were just out ahead of the technology. I was doing a show that was all about re-watchability before there was technology that really provided that opportunity — before DVRs, etc. In fact, the first season we didn't know for sure if they would release us on DVD. So in retrospect it was more than audacious, it was "foolish." But this time we're going to be way out in front of the next trend, unless, and this is a longshot, it ends up being "reading it off paper."
Then there's the fact that this time around the creative team isn't really held back by any network standards. They can bascially do whatever they want with the show and not worry about cutting loose and getting crazy if they want to. When asked about this, and if the show would contain cussing or have dirty jokes he explained,

No, we're doing it as tastefully tasteless as we always have I guess. And there are still standards you can't violate. For instance I can't say "Joe Adalian is a (SENTENCES OMITTED)" unless I can actually prove what you and I both know I know.

We’ve known for a while now that Arrested Development season 4 would be premiering in its entirety on Netflix “sometime in spring 2013,” but now The Film Stage is reporting that the premiere date has been narrowed down to April.

What does this mean, exactly? Well, for one, it means you have five more months before you should probably purchase Netflix Streaming (if you want to be able to watch season 4 as quickly as possible, that is). Other than that, we now have an idea as to how many more excruciating months we’ll have to endure before we can watch new episodes of Arrested Development. It’s already been (almost) seven years since the show was canceled. What’s five months more?

The concrete promise of 10 new episodes of Arrested Development represented a tidy resolution for the show, with a nice round number and everything, creating an unfamiliar feeling of fulfillment for fans. Fortunately, Mitch Hurwitz has returned the project to the nebulousness to which we are more accustomed, asking Netflix to up the order to around 12 to 15 episodes to accommodate all the new material he and the crew have generated. Open-ended plans, vague avowals of awesomeness, a halt in production while they figure out how to make the new material work and get everyone's schedule sorted—these are the conditions in which an Arrested Development fan can truly thrive. That we still have to wait for an official episode count and premiere date beyond "spring 2013" only adds to the continued sweet mystery of life.

The new season of Arrested Development is set to debut on Netflix Instant in 2013, but today, Netflix's "Watch Instantly" just added a bunch of fake movies and TV shows from the first three seasons of Arrested Development to the streaming service. Titles like Girls with Low Self Esteem: Newport Beach, Les Cousins Dangereux, Scandalmakers, and Boyfights appear as "Watch Instantly" options. Although the links just go to Netflix's Arrested Development page, the cover art and synopses from these fake shows are pretty entertaining and an early example of some of the cool Netflix bonus material we might be getting when Season 4 debuts next year (Most of the art is taken from early seasons of the show and yes, the Girls with Self Esteem: Newport Beach cover reads Girls with Low Self Esteem: Orlando, Florida). The whole thing is kinda silly and weird, but it seems to just be a clever way to try to get fans to start rewatching the show before the new episodes kick off. Hit the jump for a look at all 10 of the fake Arrested Development movies and shows "available" on Netflix:

A couple of hours after this post went up, Fox pulled everything down. Netflix backtracked on the date, but not on the episodes.
