So SE has a terrible year financially, and apparently decide one of the ways to deal with it would be to make it even more complicated for many of their customers to pay for one of their profitable services.
With that said, at the current stage, no matter what I do I have to give my financial information to a third party. How delightful. I wonder which of their high level management staff is getting kickbacks from B&C...
My mind is so full of fuck right now.
If all of this is to increase account security, how does allowing POL passwords to be changed from the SE account do that? doesn't that make it less secure? if a hacker got into your SE account, they could lock you out of the FFXI forever just by changing that password if you managed to the the account back. I always thought that having the second id and password which you don't type in made FFXI and pol more secure then any other game out there when you put it on a SE account. The token does help too.
This is a pretty dumb thing for SE to do, but I can see their motivation. Positive points for them:
* They reduce the necessary infrastructure. Now someone else deals with payments, or it's on the same plan as FFXIV.
* If you go the Crysta route and are lazy, they get paid in advance (earning interest on a hundred thousand "months" worth of advance payments is something, and the cost of the service they provide is negligible so they can essentially count it as profit instantly) and retain the right to ban you randomly and lock your Crysta in "I can never exchange this for anything" limbo.
* The price very marginally went up now that we're on a 30 day cycle instead of a monthly cycle.
What they're probably not considering:
* Some people that were halfassedly playing or using FFXI as AIM will doubtlessly not bother sorting through all this bullshit and resubscribing.
This may just be a strategy to boost apparent third quarter earnings with people overbuying Crysta so they don't have to mess with it for a while.
It's never about your security, it's always been about SE's security and profitability. They can make some additional money off of the Crysta points scam, and they don't have to deal with credit card bullshit since they are going through this third party company. I'm sure this all looked good on paper when it was proposed, but no one apparently bothered to think of how it would piss off the customer base, or maybe they did consider it since they are giving everyone who goes through all this shit a little trinket as a condolence prize.

The guy that wrote the WebMoney guide says he was able to transfer to a local SE ID. I'm trying to find out if he had already linked before this though.
EDIT, Japanese text was glitching the page.
