I have not had any problems with my CC billing address. I used my Debit card through my bank to pay.

Honestly, I do realize that SE is a company, and they are out to make money. And I've always understood (living in corporate America) that the following statements are true:

A good company tries to keep their customers happy.

A great company can keep their customers paying, and paying more, even while simultaneously pissing them off.

SE is a great company in that regard...

Seriously though, the two blatant cash grabs (Crysta System pre-payments and leftovers, and the switch to "30-days" billing) only means a couple extra bucks a year from each subscriber, which (if that's all it was) would mostly be tolerated, and SE knows that. And those couple extra bucks, multiplied by 100k+ subscribers, is a good bit of extra money for SE. So yeah, I totally understand why they are doing it, and can't really hate them for that aspect. More of an "I c wut you did thar" attitude.

The part that really pisses me off, is the fact that they made it SUPER inconvenient, and are using an incredibly sketchy 3rd-party company for the only automatic billing option. As others have said, without an easy-to-use automatic payment option (that doesn't involve a super-shady 3rd party), they could stand to lose a LOT of casual subscribers.

The real salt in the wound is this line, at the very top of the transfer page:

To improve the security of PlayOnline's services and to make Square Enix's online services more user-friendly, we ask that you transfer your PlayOnline ID to a Square Enix account.

Biggest pile of horseshit ever.

It does nothing to improve security, and it does the exact fucking opposite of making things "more user-friendly".

I realize this is SE we are talking about here, but I honestly don't understand how they can bend us over and fuck us so hard and think that we aren't going to notice or care.

well shit,my wifes and my Debit get denied at playspan and then paypal doesnt show billing address on the checkout confirm for the transaction so playspan cancels it. and i refuse to pay that 3% surcharge thru Bendoverandbuy.

i guess i might be a victim of being forced to quit due to lack of payment method. fuck off SE.

This is a sad day for XI. I think a lot of old players who have only kept their subscriptions going because having access to XI is something of a comfort after being subscribed non-stop for the past 5+ years are going to use this as an opportunity to finally sever ties. It sounds silly, but I think the fact that paying for XI via direct debit has always been a passive action has been a huge contributing factor when it comes to the number of players who still kept their accounts active even when they didn't have the time to play frequently or at all.

Also judging from this thread quite a few active players are going to rage-quit as well.

Being playing since 2003 with an NA account, I am going to account transfer now and see if I'll be forced to use one of the new stupid methods (but from what I read, I'm done for.)

I didn't play for the last 2-3 months but still paid SE. If I can't use my old Debit Card anymore, SE gave me finally a good reason to pull the plug (something I couldn't force myself to do so far due to my affection to the game.)

Sorry for the whining, but really this feels like a kick in the balls. I hate when people force me to do something I am very uncomfortable with.

EDIT: Hmm... I think if you have a 3D-secure Debit Card, none of this crap affects you - you can avoid buying Crysta and you don't have to use C&B or Ultimate Game Card...

Apparently not directly. You can buy it with a credit card through Click&Buy, Paypal, or other methods, but not directly, and it's not automatic.

Paypal is so easy, has no surcharges, and you can even get a verified paypal account and be set. You even then have it set up to purchase with your debit/credit card from paypal.

I'd much rather have chrysta to pay for, then to have to worry about all the BS that came with switching debit/credit cards with POL and then the random chance their spaghetti scripts decline a valid charge and temp ban me for a "chargeback ban" when I pay on time every month.

[edit] well to clarify, you have to remember to put the crysta in, not to "pay" every month.

You can set up automatic payment of the game with crysta. You can't set it up where it automatically buys crysta every month from your paypal account.

It didn't show my address either on checkout, all it asked me for was a phone number instead. Once I entered that it went right through.

You can't set it up where it automatically buys crysta every month from your paypal account.

Honestly, if they implemented this, it would alleviate a good part of the complaints.

Additionally, making it so that it only bought exactly the amount you needed, and directly from your CC as opposed to going through Ultimate Pay and Paypal, would essentially bring it back to the way it was.

This isn't impossible to fix... SE just needs to do it.

Well, with a JP account, if you can get an address input, you can convert WebMoney to Crysta in any amount. I just put my 769 WebMoney points over to 769 Crysta. WebMoney can be used for a lot more things that Crysta, so you can convert exactly. Still a pain in the ass, and I don't have enough to reactivate my account.
