Make sure you read Annihilation : Nova and Annihilation Conquest : Starlord. You could read all of the side stories /collections for both events, but those two are far and away the most important (Also Annihilation Conquest : Quasar, by Phylla isn't in the movie so dunno how interested people are)

Just got back from seeing this again, still great, but I have a question maybe someone with more comic knowledge can answer.

During the prisoner processing scene, it lists known associates for each of them, under rockets it lists Lylla, who I know of, but under Groot was someone whos name was Tibius Lark, or something similar, and I have no clue who that is, anyone know?

that picture is from the trailer, it's not the same as in the movie, it lists two associates in the movie, one is rockets i.d number, and the other is that Tibius Lark whom I can't find anywhere

honestly i dont think the CGI performances would have caught on as quickly as they did if it weren't for his outstanding performances. if someone had tried it and done poorly because the actor sucked at it, it would have be labelled as a fad.
