Marvel Studios and director James Gunn are prepping up for their epic space adventure film Guardians of the Galaxy. They're currently looking for the leading man to take on the role of Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord in the movie. There's a small group of actors that our testing for the part, and according to Deadline this is who is in the running as of right now...

Joel Edgerton (The Warrior), Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), Jim Sturgess (Cloud Atlas), Lee Pace (Lincoln and The Hobbit), Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables), Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy), James Marsden (X-Men) and Sullivan Stapleton (Animal Kingdom)

This is a very wide variety of different types of actors. They all have very different attributes and looks, so it's interesting to see the wide range they have for this character. The story follows a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants. Star-Lord is the pilot and leader of the space superhero team.

The Hobbit and Lincoln actor Lee Pace has confirmed in a recent interview with MTV that he is preparing to audition for the role of Star-Lord in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy! Pace is one of several actors up for the lead role in the film. Some of the other actors include Joel Edgerton (Warrior), Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), Jim Sturgess (Cloud Atlas), Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables), Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy), James Marsden (X-Men) and Sullivan Stapleton (Animal Kingdom).

As much as I like Pace as an actor, I'm kind of rooting for Marsden. But, if Pace did end up getting the part I wouldn't complain as he's my second choice. Here's what he had to say,

I go in on Monday to meet them all and audition for it, so wish me luck. I'm very excited about it. The script is great. The character is a lot of fun. I have been [reading up on Star-Lord]. You want to know what you're doing. The character is a lot of fun. I hope it works out.
When asked about his chances of landing the part he said,

We'll see. We'll see, I've got to audition. I've got to go get it. I actually love auditioning, so I'm happy to go meet them all and do it.

Boardwalk Empire's Jack Huston revealed to MTV that he had auditioned for the role of Star-Lord in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. Despite breaking a bone during filming of his latest movie, Not Fade Away, he stated that he is "more than capable" of handling the role. Here's what he had to say,

There was a screen test. Like I said, brittle bones. Maybe they'll call me Glass Man. 'Here he comes. Oh, he fell over.'

I would love to do it. I tell you, these bones are strong. If you need a guardian to look after this galaxy, look no further.

Slither and Super director James Gunn is currently prepping for his epic Marvel feature film Guardians of the Galaxy. Gunn recently talked with some NASA scientists recently from the Jet Propulsion Laboratories to talk about the possibilities of space travel and alien life as research for his big sci-fi adventure film. Here's what he had to say on his Facebook page,

Yesterday I spent a few hours with one of NASA's representatives from Jet Propulsion Laboratories, part of a group of scientists who consult [with] the movie industry (for free) to help bring a greater understanding of science to films. It was an utterly fascinating few hours with one of the most intelligent and knowledgeable guys I've ever met... [W]e made our way through a ton of information on the possibilities of space travel, alien life, etc...
He didn't really reveal much about the film but he did talk about global warming, and what the scientists had to say about it. Head on over to his Facebook page to read more about that if that interests you.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt had a hell of a great year in 2012. He was in Looper, The Dark Knight Rises, Premium Rush and Lincoln. The guy has a pretty awesome career ahead of him, and he's now in the running to play the lead role of Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy!

Looks like we can add Smallville's Michael Rosenbaum to the mix of actors up for the role of Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy! Rosenbaum confirmed the news himself via his Twitter account saying...

We've been seeing a lot of news recently for actors up for the role of Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy, but there are other characters in the film that need to be cast. One of those characters is Drax the Destroyer.

CBM claims to have a source close to the production who says that Brian Patrick Wade (The Guardian), former WWE Superstar Dave Bautista (Man With The Iron Fists), and Old Spice guy Isaiah Mustafa are currently up for the part.

Here's a little background info on the character:

A former saxophonist, Arthur Sampson "Art" Douglas and his family were killed by the Titanian Eternal Thanos while driving across the Mojave Desert. Kronos recovered Douglas' astral form and used it to create a superhuman warrior for the purpose of defeating Thanos.

Happy Gilmore and Ace Ventura could end up as part of Marvel’s cosmic superhero team. Latino Review reports Marvel is reportedly courting both Jim Carrey and/or Adam Sandler for yet-to-be revealed parts in James Gunn‘s 2014 film, Guardians of the Galaxy. The only role they certainly won’t be playing is Peter Quill, aka Star Lord, but they might be asked to provide the voice of Rocket Raccoon or another of the non-human characters such as Groot.

After the jump, discuss the possibility of who Carrey or Sandler could play.

According to the Latino Review story (and some Twitter chatter after the fact), it’s not only unclear what role Sandler and Carrey are up for, they might both be up for different roles, or both be up for the same role. All that is known is that the studio is looking at both actors for the film, nothing more.

Who do you think Sandler and Carrey could play? Should they do the motion capture too?

The only character either of them touching that would make any kind of sense is Rocket Raccoon, but if Marvel has any decency they would just let the VA who did Rocky in UMVC 3 cover him again.

Upon further review I could accept either of them doing a cheesy Russian accent and playing Cosmo.

I fail to see what you fixed, especially considering that that Rocky's VA is a 95 year old woman and probably incapable of a cockney accent.

It was a joke guy. I don't actually think the flying squirrel should be the voice of a super hero.

    Chriss Pratt to play Star-Lord
    Spoiler: show
News that Chris Pratt's television alter ego, Andy Dwyer, would love. (Or at least Burt Macklin.) According to Deadline.com, Pratt -- who stars on "Parks and Recreation" -- has won the role of Peter Quill in "Guardians of the Galaxy."

Casting for Quill -- also known as "Star-Lord," which, as CinemaBlend editor Katey Rich noted was probably a band name rejected by Andy Dwyer -- has been ongoing for months. Back in November of 2012, Deadline.com reported that Joel Edgerton, Jack Huston, Jim Sturgess, Lee Pace and Eddie Redmayne were up for the role of Quill, an astronaut with a half-alien father who leads the Guardians of the Galaxy. (There's a raccoon involved, FYI.)

In December of 2012, Variety had Strugess in the lead, along with "Chuck" star Zachary Levi. January of this year brought one more name: Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Deadline.com reported Gordon-Levitt's involvement, but the star chose "Sin City: A Dame To Kill For" instead of "Guardians of the Galaxy."

That apparently opened the door for Pratt, who is currently onscreen in "Zero Dark Thirty" (playing a Navy SEAL opposite Edgerton). 2013 should be busy for Pratt, as he also co-stars in the Vince Vaughn comedy "Delivery Man."

For more on Pratt's casting, head over to Deadline.com. "Guardians of the Galaxy" is set for release on Aug. 1, 2014.

people might know him from Parks & Recreation of Zero Dark Thirty
    ..or Mr. Anna Farris.

Mamoa is a great choice indeed, but let's be honest... The Rock would have owned as Drax as well.
