Marvel's Creative Committee at the time had consisted of Marvel Comics Publisher Dan Buckley, Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada, Marvel Entertainment President Alan Fine and writer Brian Michael Bendis. All but Bendis still have creative control of Marvel TV.
I kind of understand. They were trying to play safe and it made sense, at the time. However GotG is arguably the film that showed Marvel that YES, they can do weird. Ever since they've been doing a little bit more weird. Thor Ragnarok shows that. I'm not too worried.
