Well, it sounds like it's probably any one particular monster of each type (or at least more than one type) inside Toto-Rak triggers it. One particular chigoe, bomb, flan, etc. It's probably just easiest to do the bombs because there are so few of them.

I thought that might be it too, but when i killed all but one mite, and pretty much nothing else (certainly not all of one species) i still got the chest. So it's not kill a species, nor is it kill one of each species either, as that run i had not killed any bombs, djiggas, or flans either.

Such a confusing chest this is... I wonder if it's related to killing mobs at all now.

I doubt that as well, unless the number's really, reaaaaaally low. I've killed as few as 18 mobs or so, with the mites consisting of almost all of them. I've also done runs when i first started where i mass murdered half the dungeon and DIDN'T get the chest. (maybe it's get through the dungeon while killing only a certain amount or below of mobs? <_<; like no more than 50 mob deaths or something? i dunno.)

Tried to test again one more time today, but the drg i paid to get me in didn't understand i just wanted the entry and not a team up, and i wound up getting too annoyed by a random person hogging my loots to consider it. They even couldn't understand the concept of passing items to another party member... or something. ~.~ yay for only 400 seal run.

Anyone know a good way to communicate how you just want someone to get you in and then exit? I tried {the thousand maws of totorak} {entrance} {can I have it?} {Reward:} 20k {please invite me.} and although some people get it, twice today people...didn't. :s

Someone tested some more on the official forums and I checked it out as well with limited testing. There seem to be 3 specific mobs that can pop that first chest. There is a set of Flans, Bombs, and Cell Mites that can trigger the first chest. I personally tested the bombs myself by only killing those and sleeping everything else. I was rushing too much to be specific with the flans and cell mites with testing (did it on MNK instead of BLM for those runs) but they are triggers as well.

You know, it actually makes quite a bit of sense for it to be 3 different groups you can do. One in each section with a boss.

doh... that DOES make sense. not only does it explain why others didn't kill mites but killed flans or bombs and got the chest, but also why i killed none but mites and got it as well. the one mite i left up was also one of the ones before the chamber, and i did kill that group of mites circled that run and got the chest.

Currently my strategy for getting the First chest is to kill everything mob in the 4th zone. Recently, I was doing toto and I decided not to kill the cell mites labeled in the map above and we did not get the first chest. However, every other run we did get the first chest as we Killed everything in the 4th zone including those mites. I had a theory that those mites might be a condition for the first chest, this map pretty much confirmed it for me.
