FITE Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown

    No thread? Alright.

    http://kotaku.com/5833517/virtua-fig...final-showdown

Sega wants in on the Street Fighter IV-led fighting game resurgence. Their entrant? A new version of 2006's Virtua Fighter 5, Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown, scheduled for a downloadable release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 next summer.

Final Showdown is supposed to include "a full overhaul of Virtua Fighter 5's mechanics, balance and animations, along with new game modes, new dynamic fighting arenas, a massive collection of customizable character items and new characters added to the roster," according to a press release from Sega.

The new game will offer an optional simplified controlled scheme, arenas with destructible fences and walls that "are different for every round," new wall-based combat moves, a new single-player mode, a "responsive one-on-one online battle system", and 19 characters, "including fan favorite Taka-Arashi from Virtua Fighter 3 and an all-new character, Jean Kujo" along with costumes and character item

Best fighting game news in years.

I read about this but didn't bothering posting it on here cause I figured no one gave a damn. Virtua Fighter 4 Evo is my favorite fighting game of all time.

Granted my favorite character in the series (Vanessa) got kind of raped in Final Showdown, but meh.

VF5 is such a piece of shit. There's no hope for them turning that one around. They should just work on VF6, since only the even numbered games are playable.

Enjoyed the ever loving hell out of VF4:EVO, looking forward to this since I completely missed out on VF5.

Hope they didn't fuck up Lion too much.

No word yet if this is just a straight-up port of the arcade version w/ online, or something more akin to a proper console release with extra frills/modes to play with?

I wish more people in my area played Virtua Fighter or Vampire Savior.

Instead I get Street Fighter shoved down my throat at every tourny.

So fucking ready for this, and so goddamn glad it's coming out before I leave on another patrol. Training mode alone could occupy me for the 2 months I'll be out at sea.

And for those interested, game is priced at $15, then their will be dlc customization packs for $5 dollars per character, and bulk packs with additional items for multiple characters for I think it was $10 and $15 dollars. Each customization pack is supposed to include 600+ items for the character (obviously duplicates between characters here). So if you want everything, you're dropping a pretty penny, but at a $15 base price and letting you pick specific characters you want to get items for, pretty awesome overall price point.

Also, edit #2, Vanessa/Wolf for life.

Any word if they'll be unlockable normally via playing the game like VF4:EVO?

Will be slightly disappointed if not as I like collecting random shit as offline replay incentive, but for a $15 base asking price it's hard to complain that the game isn't already incredible value.

As much as I disliked vanilla VF5, I never gave R or FS a chance in arcades. I'll give this one a shot for $15. Does anyone know what time new games usually pop up on PSN?

PSN updated. 2gb download, which is smaller than I was expecting honestly.

Training mode is super complete, and the tutorial even teaches you how to fuzzy guard. Played a couple matches online, and anything shy of a full green connection was not really playable. Oh well, I play 95% of my matches offline, so if netcode isn't superb then it's alright to me.

How much offline content is there? Any unlockable accessories or am I stuck having to buy DLC? Still downloading it here since I paused it for some catching up on E3 streams.

There a ton of offline content, though I don't know if any of it relates to accessories or not. As mentioned, the training and tutorial modes are stellar. Then it has the usual arcade and score (time) attack mode. There's another mode where you have to do a set of challenges to unlock licenses, which only seem to offer access to harder challenges. Finally, there's the obvious offline 2P versus mode. I don't know how you play fighting games, but if you are at all serious about it, the training mode alone will make the purchase worthwhile.
