So outside of all the loli's and almost naked characters
Anyone bought this game? and is it good?
I don't have a PS4 but I have the PS3 version dl'd the update yesterday. I've always liked DOA its a fun fighting game and fast paced. It has a simple foundation based on roshambo but can be complex as well. I was into Tekken til I found this and never went back. Unfortunately Sony patched the spoofers a few days ago so no online play for me but w/e.
I wouldn't personally buy it simply because Team Ninja feels compelled to leave my main, Eliot, bottom-tier.
You put a goddamn Neji in a real fighting game using Xing Yi Quan and you give him strikes so slow and predictable that everyone can counterspam him. I played the shit out of DOA4, but once I saw that they refused to buff him, I said nothx.
Eliot is still better than Jan Lee, at least.
people care about tier lists in a game that uses a super-simplified Virtua Fighter 5 engine?
I do when you can't win when playing other people. What, you gonna play the CPU all day?
Eliot is literally nothing but counter-bait. Every move can be seen from a mile away by any half-decent person.
Pretty sure there were no serious balances or character works, as the game is basically out at this point to sell DLC outfits. I wouldn't be this annoyed if he wasn't the ONLY Xing Yi Quan user I've ever seen in any game. I absolutely love the style, but goddamn is it angular when it comes to the rock/paper/scissors game this game employs.
For Nits, here's a link to a DOA tier list (no Honoka or Raido yet). My boy Eliot has his own special ass tier all the way at the bottom. This hasn't changed from DoA4. Its been half a decade at this point.

E tier.
How fitting that he's the only one in it too. It fits too perfectly and I like how its not just the specific character matchups that work against him... but the actual core mechanics of the game. That really hurts.
Everything about his style is badass from a real life perspective... but everything about his style completely FAILS in a game about hard and soft reads that lead into punishing counters. He wouldn't be awful in a non-countering game because he could use long block strings to set up safe pressure and bait punishes... but not in a counter-fest where you push a button and get huge damage.
That deliberate, protracted poking style that flows into another attack just does not work unless they speed up his start up frames or something. It sucks for players who enjoyed him.
I am ready
I heard there was gonna be a SK/DOA crossover. I felt it would just be costumes but I hoped for more.
I don't know why I did.
Full on destructible costumes too
