Man... just found this site through SRK when looking up the difference between circle and octo. I didn't realize how much more efficient squares are. I swapped to an octo because it was screwing me up too hard to do down, right, up for a QCF since I tend to ride the gate when I play.

yeah, the more I airdash the more I hate an square gate. it really fucks you up in tridashing then trying to block low, only to be blocking high

Personally I can't stand octo-gate either. I used to have one and it was messing up my motions. I like it for marvel too because of the stricter dp motion that I prefer square to make sure I end my dp motions at the corners.

'Efficient' is a poor word, the larger area if the square means there's more space to be traversed by the shaft. If you're riding the gate you're forcing your hand to travel further, thus taking longer to complete the motion.

imo it doesn't matter either way, I prefer octo but it's not like I'm crippled by a square, and I practice/play on both regularly.

Opticals were far and away the best for Marvel 2 because they reset to neutral position faster than a square/octo. Some combos were basically impossible on a octo gate on Marvel 2, but I don't know how Marvel 3 is treated by them. ROMs with fast neutral reset was the reasoning in Marvel 2.

This is why MAS sticks made so much damn money and took 3-5 months to get one due to the backlog. I'd shoot myself before using a bat-top these days though XD

When I used Calli's 8-Arc it felt like I was riding a bike with training wheels, switched almost immediately ;x
