Anyone know some good zesty cheese dip recipes? Also, chilli recipes. I like spicy, not zomg hot, just "adds to the flavor spicy"
I JUST bought a crockpot about a week ago, this thread is awesome.
Love crock pots! Throw shit in before work, come home to the house smelling awesome and a hot meal ready to eat. Well maybe add some flour or gravy mix to thicken the juice.
Cooking with good beer/wine is a waste. Drink it and cook with the cheap stuff.
Highly depends on what you're making, but for the most part you are correct.
I'll be making crock pot version of stuffed peppers (using risotto rice instead of normal white rice because it holds up better in the long cooking time) tomorrow. I'll drop the recipe some time later but it's from Cooks Country. If you like to cook, I highly suggest at least getting an online subscription. Practical, mostly easy to make recipes and they are flawless.
Cooks illustrated is good too, but a little more complicated- they get more into how they go in and break down a recipe and perfect it.
Shamelessly double posting but my onions turned out just delicious. 10 1/2 hours on low and they are brown and really flavorful. Gonna toss em on a burger or a steak this week. I reserved the butter and used on a toasted bagel today too. Nothing like some awesome onion butter.
suuuuuper easy crock pot cheese dip is basically just...
1lb seasoned browned beef and 1 can of rotel for every box of velveeta.
So funny to me that I pull out the crock pot after several months today and see this thread just after setting it up for pulled pork sammiches. The key ingredient is liquid-smoked goodness.
3 to 4 pounds boneless pork shoulder
1/4 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups water
1 tablespoon hickory flavored liquid smoke
2 cups barbecue sauce
So I just bought a crockpot, so excited, already have chili going in there. Question about it though: can I take off the lid and add spice/stir and stuff or will that fuck up the cooking time? I used this recipe, give or take some personal additions: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/lauras-...li/detail.aspx
And I set it on 4 hours cooking time on high as opposed to 8 on low, just cause I didn't want to wait.
Doesn't matter; it's not a pressure cooker.
How I cook my pot roast:
2 cans of campbells golden mushroom soup
beef loin cut about 24 oz -ish ( i think, might be a little more than that)
1 bag of baby carrots
about 6 red potatoes
(can add an onion but I usually braze the meat with onion powder on it)
Empty the 2 cans of golden mushroom soup in the pot, then also add 4 cans worth of water, stir it pretty well. add a little salt if you like
Trim the fat around the outside of the beef (or leave it, depends on how ya like it)
Cut it into 2 or 4 pieces, coat with salt and pepper, then onion and garlic powder (just enough to color the meat)
I usually will spritz the meat after that with spray butter before dropping it in a skillet on medium heat to braze the seasoning into all sides of the meat
meat goes in the pot, cut up the potatoes and rinse 'em with the carrots, then drop those in as well.
let cook 12-14 hours.
i add a little salt to mine even after its done.
apartment smells good for like 3 days after lol
One of my favorites
Few lbs of chicken cut up into cubes.
1can of cream of chicken
2-4 TBS curry powder
salt n pepper
1/2 cup Mayo
Bag of whatever frozen veggies you want (I like either peas or a mix)
*chicken broth (optional)
So cube the chicken and salt+pepper it. Then mix mayo, cream of chicken, curry powder, and the chicken broth if you used it. Toss everything into the crock pot and cook on low for 8 hours. Sometimes I add some garlic salt for extra flavor. Serve over some white rice and you're done son.
^Also looking for an awesome chili recipe. My boyfriend has been demanding chili for a while, but I've only ever made bbq pulled pork on the crockpot. Any suggestions on making this better:
sliced onions on bottom of pot
1-2lb pork tenderloin
can of root beer (the cheap cans you buy from Whole Foods with the cane sugar)
salt/pepper
cook for 10-12 hrs
I put the bbq sauce after the pork was done cooking, but this was totally a noob pulled pork. I'd never made it before, and I was just eyeballing it from when my stepmom made it (she also saved the bbq sauce for afterwards, not sure why). It actually came out pretty good, but I think I could do better. (Maybe put in the bbq sauce in the pot with everything else?)
