I've only read the first two so far, but it didn't seem to need much clean up. The deaths weren't much worse than your average movie violence, I'd say it matches the Lord of the Rings films, and those came in at PG-13.

As for the themes, yeah it's a bit dark for the rating, but if you screw with that, it'll kill the story.

Now, a film that's going to be hard pressed to get a rating to match the age range it's written to, is Artemis Fowl. The protagonist is a criminal genius who kidnaps, drugs, imprisons, and ransoms the female lead (wholesome family fun!). Butler's badassery can get pretty violent. And then there's Mulch.

    Spoiler for cruise control spoiling

    Spoiler: show

As long as Woody Harrelson is a dick to them I'll be happy. I pictured Prez Snow as Sutherland (He'll live through the first movie woot) and Cinna should have been given too someone more...gay?
    Spoiler: show

I guess they're removing the Mayor's daughter and having Primr give her the Mockingjay pin?

The books are an incredibly engaging read. I would definitely recommend them.
First one is the best in my opinion.

    1st > 3rd > 2nd imo.

The third sucked nuts, it felt really rushed and predictable. 1st> 2nd > 3rd.

Just plowed through all three in a day, and I have to agree with this order.

Honestly, for the badass Katniss can outwardly be,
    Spoiler: show
she's fucking retarded in her narrative/inner dialog and that's established early on. She frequently dismisses glaring, obvious foreshadowings that she should pay more attention to, but as a hormonal teenage girl put through psychological trauma over and over again, I guess it's in character.

    Also,
    Spoiler: show
the books pull the nightmare card way too often. Literally, every time someone goes to bed, they have a nightmare. On rare occasions, one character sleeps well. Most of the time two or three or four people have nightmares. I get that the whole experience is fucked up but jesus, use a different mechanism for once.

At the beginning, I didn't know anything about The Hunger Games. When I saw how you guys were excited I downloaded Book 1 and read it without watching the trailer to avoid spoilers or forming theories in my head. Now that I'm done with the book and watched the trailer.. damn that's gonna be 1 awesome movie. All I hope is they don't stretch book 1 into 2 movies.

i just read these. they are def for 13 year old girls. glad to see i was so spot on with my earlier posts. holy shit. could have been a good story if it was written by a man that knew what the fuck. also the whole third book was a bucket of lol.

you guys are all teenage girls.

I just finished the first book. Rather surprised that this passed whatever board approves the "young adult" rating on books. It's hyperviolent. I think they're much better than the Twilight series. I thought it was well written for the genre. Katniss Everdeen is pretty much the polar opposite of Bella Swan. It's almost as if she was written in response to Bella Swan.

Just finished reading all three. The first one was great, the next couple were simply OK, like the first book was a huge success, but she wasn't sure where to go with a sequel. I think I would have just rather had a new Hunger Games, with the main viewpoint from several different characters, so you didn't know how it would end, rather than the relatively predictable revolution & war story it became.
    Spoiler: show
However, I was pleasantly surprised at the end of the third book with
    Spoiler: show
    Primrose's death.
It made good sense in the context of the story, and was important to set up the climax of the third book. I was expecting either Gale or Peeta to sacrifice himself for Katniss and her to get stuck with the other one. I'm glad it didn't work out that way.

I feel like all the trailers released give you less than no idea what the story is.

I think the books were good. Maybe I liked a lot of the thought process of Katniss(that I fear will not translate into the movie) such as how she does things, but feels like she is being used by everyone. How she is afraid all the time, etc.

As I said in the Books thread. The first book is decent, the other two aren't worth reading. These are for 12 year old girls.

    Won't be seeing the movies.
