The only way Id find both sets of weapons interesting is if they added highly unique stats that were more situationally specific than even Hecatomb gear in XI. For example, while solo, base dmg / ATK exceeds Ifrit weapons, but is inferior in parties.
The other option is you simply reverse the Ifrit weapons dynamic. Mage weapons are relatively weak imo currently. For CNJ at least, Jade Crook is superior to Ifrit's Cane for the most part. If you made the Moogle melee weapons weaker than Ifrit's but added superior true mage stats to the Moogle's ones, I think the fight would be interesting. Of course interest would be higher if all weapons were superior, but then you set a bad precedent of rapid obsolescence.
Would love to see some unique stats at some point. Cure Pot / MP Regen, haste, damage reduction, etc would make these weapons and gear in general a bit less vanilla.
