So I'm going to vote for the idea that filling more than one unlocks the 4th item. For the second week in a row filling an item has not caused the 4th to pop, but we didn't get a second filled item due to server maint and some of the items being annoying. Steel Baselards filled up almost immediately, but Kite Shields haven't opened up, so I'm waiting for Dodo Leather to cap out until I get angry about it.

Are you specifically talking about Supply? Because I am pretty certain that capping any one of the 3 items for Provisioning always unlocks the fourth. Server maintenance will always reset everything back to 0 and re-lock any unlocked items in both categories.

Sorry to burst your bubble here. On Selbina, all we have capped for Supply is Steel Baselards and Kite Shields are available. I'm sad for you since Kite Shields are GREAT for seals (I bought all the Kite Shields in the wards that were going for less than 50k), but I'm glad to see it confirmed that it can differ from server to server.

I can only assume that capping something merely grants a chance at unlocking the 4th item.

I would refute what miokomioko is saying too, but my evidence is from a maintenance week. One week the Selbina Maelstrom capped two provisioning items and still didn't unlock the extra item, but like I said, it was after a maintenance.

I hope it's a rotation... really helps out being a fisher and knowing what to stock up on for the coming week. I made a ton of cash off black sole this rotation selling close to 20 stacks and then getting myself 6k seals. Can't beat that.

In regards to the 4th item popping or not popping when something fills, I believe it happens when the correct item's quota has been reached which is randomized and independent of other servers. A few observations to support this:

Kite Shields did not pop on Mysidia this week when Steel Baselards filled in LL. Nothing popped in Gridania when Peiste Cesti filled. However, later in the day when I capped out Yew Logs to 5000, Mandrake Roots popped & I updated the chart.

Last week (Before the maint. to Mysidia) Velodyna Carp popped when Oak Branches filled. Following the maint, Velodyna Carp did NOT pop when Oak Branches filled and still did not pop when Northern Pike capped out as well. So if I had to guess, after the server maint. Velodyna Carp was hiding behind door #3, and Raw Sunstones would have had to fill up for it to appear.

Again, this is just speculation still but it does seem to be the case since some servers have the 4th items appear when 1 item fills and others servers do not.

Aye, it's either that, or I was thinking it could be a /random of sorts. Fill 1 item, 33% chance of unlocking 4th. Fill 2 items, 66% chance of unlocking 4th. Fill 3 items (never seen this happen yet), 100% chance of unlocking 4th. There'd be no way to tell the difference between the two though.

Just to double-check, you meant Limsa here, right?

Kite Shields did not pop on Mysidia this week when Steel Baselards filled in Uldah.

Yea I filled up black sole for provisioning last night and nothing popped. Woke up this morning and still nothing (no one has capped another item yet). Looks like a random chance or something.

To support this most recent theory.. on Mysidia, Limsa was capped on ash logs. Capped off Rothlyt oysters and unlocked Haraldr haddock. Since there is maint tomorrow and haddocks will be locked again, will see if capping off oysters will result in unlocking haddock again.

Haraldr haddock is 5 seals per nq and caps at 6000.

Hopefully we can get lots of records of before/after maintenance from several servers. Back when nobody really knew much about how it worked, we originally thought that maintenance was breaking the unlock function, but hopefully this one will let us know if it was just random chance.

I'll be sure to check the Maelstrom on Selbina before and after.

So Haraldr Haddock is the 4th item in Provisioning for Maelstrom? The spreadsheet doesn't have anything for the bonus the Maelstrom bonus Provisioning item yet this week. If you happen to see this before the maintenance (or after, if they re-cap) could you post the seal reward and/or the quota or put it in the spreadsheet yourself? I will go ahead and put the fish name in, but I don't have any other info.

Like I posted, in my experience this is not true. 2 weeks ago, pre-maint it was Oak Branches that unlocked Velodyna Carp. Post-maint Oak Branches filled again and it did not unlock Velodyna Carp. That I know is a fact since I filled them myself. I think the maint on any given week not only resets the counter, but also resets which item unlocks #4. It has the chance to be the same item, but it's just a 33% chance.

Meh, I've seen the 4th item unlock every single time the first of the original 3 were capped. I have no reason to believe there's a 1/3 chance.
