    Light/Visual Novel Thread

These have been lumped in with general anime threads for too long I think. I just started getting interested in these and wish I had started sooner. Obviously a ton of good anime have been adapted from light/visual novels and it's always fun to read the source material.

One VN I found popular on 4chan for its story and characters is Devil on G-string (no, not that kind of g-string, though I'm sure it's ecchi enough). I just got through chapter 1 and so far it's reaaaally good. There is an english patch for it and I found it on one of the popular download sites.

A weirder visual novel is Morenatsu which seems to be about gay furries, I didn't really know there was a big market for that in Japan. It's also english patched, lol. I'm really not sure how to feel about it so far >_>

I'd be happy if anyone had recommendations for good light/visual novels that have English translations and I'm sure others would be interested in that too ^^

btw does anyone know if katanagatari novels have a translation yet? I can't find any but that doesn't mean it's not out there.

Fate/Stay Night - that stuff is boss. There's also Ataraxia but it's not fully translated yet I think. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fate/stay_night
Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni - mystery novel, really creepy, sadly I think only the 4 question arcs are translated, the answer arcs aren't yet I believe. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Higurashi_When_They_Cry
Umineko no Naku Koro Ni (8 parts) - same author as the above, magic vs mystery in a murder incident - starts pretty slow, goes pretty crazy and convoluted after like 4th episode. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umineko_no_Naku_Koro_ni
Clannad - I know it's really popular in some circles, but I haven't played it yet - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clannad_(visual_novel)

There isn't much to add after your post.

One of the first visual novel I enjoyed was Narcissu. It's a story about a guy and a girl with terminal illness who meet each other at the hospital. Obviously, it's not very happy, but if you're looking for something heartwarming and sad, it's a good pick.

(might also add that there is no ecchi or hentai in this in case some of you were looking for that)

Mazui has been releasing short stories recently, most recent Coral of the Moon, a story by the guy who wrote F/SN/Kara no Kyoukai, and which has a PV narrated by Maaya Sakamoto .

if only she narrates the entire thing...

anyway, I loved Muvluv Alternative, but you do have to go through 2 relatively mediocre game to get to it, and unfortunately, they provide crucial enough information on the background for it to not be skippable.

I imagine she does narrate the whole thing in the DVD Sakamoto Maaya Full Moon Recital.

It's just a DVD of her narrating stories from what I understand.

Steins;gate. An English patch has almost been completed at http://vn.shourai.net. Script translation is done and they're finishing up edits and image translations.

Indeed, didn't include it in my list because the full patch is not out yet, but you should definitely check it out when it's done.

I see I'm not the only one who wants a sequel. If Xebec didn't fuck up the pacing for the last couple episodes we might have had more of a chance. I too would like to know what happens next.

Doesn't Dai Densetsu no Yusha no Densetsu start where the anime ended?

The baka-tsuki page Gokulo posted says this:

Dai Densetsu no Yūsha no Densetsu (大伝説の勇者の伝説) is the sequel to Densetsu no Yūsha no Densetsu (伝説の勇者の伝説) and picks up from where it left off in volume 11 of Densetsu no Yūsha no Densetsu.
If the LN and Anime ended the same way, the answer should be yes.

There isn't a translation for the final volume so I can't read it to say for sure.

I might rewatch the Anime then start reading Dai-LoLH because I don't really remember all the stuff that happened. ><

    Visual Novels? Visual Novels:

Wanko to Kurasou: Anthropomorphic loli doggies of goodness, among other things. You're not having sex with them, you're relieving them of their pain from being in heat. Fakku recommends it.

Monster Girl Quest: Your objective is to lose to every enemy in every possible way so that you can get raped. Monster girls of every type imaginable. Fakku also recommends.

Katawa Shoujo: Disabilities galore. Amputated legs? Amputated arms? Burn victim? Deaf+Mute? All check.

I highly recommend all of these. I've yet to finish any of them due to adhding on them. In fact the only one I've played to the end at least once is Wanko. Katawa Shoujo was made by 'four leaf studios' and came out just a few days ago.

Really not seeing why people talk about Katawa Shoujo so fucking much. I'm currently running on backlog of few games as is, so doubt I'll check it until later, but is the damn thing actually good or is it just getting the appeal from the fact that it's about cripples and it's from 4chan?

Also, does monmusu really need to be there? it's pretty horribly drawn on like 60% of the CG if not more, I played that shit thinking it was the Vanadis monster musume shit, didn't take long for me to uninstall that.

    Nope, it's actually good.
And it does it despite being from 4chan.

I too uninstalled Monmusu pretty quickly after I got bored with trying to fight my way through encounters. Maybe it's cause I'm a girl but I guess I didn't see the appeal of some of the sex scenes (and that's totally what I was there for)
