    64bit Warcraft client

When patch 4.3.2 launches, the PTR forum will go down and you'll then be able to find a link to the x64 client for the live realms on this forum.

When will patch 4.3.2 launch? I think Bankbutler said it well...
Incase some of you don't read much on MMO-champion unless it has class color coded nerfs/buffs or pretty pictures

Interested to hear how much of a performance boost you get from it. I'm getting a new computer thursday and it won't be built until saturday, so I have to wait a few days to test it out for myself. Hell of a great timing on my end, though.

Surprised its so soon, considering they only tested it starting around 4.3ish?

Should be nice for those that play at 1920x1200 and up in res especially.

So do we follow the logic that if we have a 64bit CPU, we should move on to it regardless, and it'll be a performance boost? Or would other factors apply?

I'll try it when I get home, if it's up for EU realms.

Nah you're not retarded. But I struggled to find a decent explaination for you too, so I looked it on Google and found:

The terms 32-bit and 64-bit refer to the way a computer's processor (also called a CPU), handles information. The 64-bit version of Windows handles large amounts of random access memory (RAM) more effectively than a 32-bit system.

Replace Windows with WoW and I assume the same would apply.

    And according to Wiki:

Some 64-bit programs, such as encoders, decoders and encryption software, can benefit greatly from 64-bit registers, while the performance of other programs, such as 3D graphics-oriented ones, remains unaffected when switching from a 32-bit to a 64-bit environment. It is unusual for a 64-bit program to perform worse than its 32-bit equivalent; this usually only happens due to a bug.

So how do we use this? I just unzipped it into my WoW folder, clicked the WOW-64 exe and I get an error saying it doesnt match the install of my World of Warcraft. That I must acquire a 64 bit exe in order to keep using the 64 bit version...but I thought this was a 64 bit exe? o_O

Did they actually release a 64bit exe for Live or is just for the PTR? as the link says to to follow the blue link for a copy of the live version once the PTR is taken down, then the other page says to check the tech support forum for a live client exe file...hop back to tech support forum and you read "soon".

So do we follow the logic that if we have a 64bit CPU, we should move on to it regardless, and it'll be a performance boost? Or would other factors apply?
I believe you need to also be running a 64bit version of your OS?

Basically Tricen, 64 bit allows the game to use more of your RAM to load the game much quicker. That's if you're running a 64 bit operating system.

    Yeh my OS is 64bit.

Oh god, imagine the legion of people that will complain about it not working. Blizzard didn't exactly release a FAQ about this, did they? But I believe no one really cares.

Is there a way to benchmark the 32-bit executable? I wanna see numbers go up!

the link I provided, had a blue post linking to a "PTR only" version, and will not work on live.

If your OS/CPU does not support 64bit, it will not work and you will get an error.

Also, looking at the forum as of this post, it is not up yet, so you most likely got the wrong file.

As for the 64bit aspect, it is mainly for people playing at large resolutions ( people at 1680x???? -> 1920x???? -> 2560x????) will mainly notice a difference in performance/stability as those resolutions use a ton of memory, in which case warcraft was limited to using about what 2GB of memory? (On win7 didn't seem to go much past 1.3GB active+working) memory.

with 64bit, it will have access to your 4,6,8,10,12,16,24GB of ram, so the whole game can basically just run off your memory instead of reading off your slow hardrive (or churning your SDD by reading tons of small files constantly)

    tl;dr version
    64bit OS + big playing screen = more stable/better fps/load times
small screen = won't see too much difference probably (would still get it anyway, warcraft is big as is still)

Got it working this morning before class. middle of orgrimmar with everything on ultra (except shadows, personal preference), 89-111 FPS, and the game boots up twice as fast. It's nice.

edit: 171 fps now that blizzard finished working on it. so epic.

My framerate's still dipping to sub 40 if I fly around stormwind with all settings maxxed. 16GB RAM, GTX 580.

    Disappointing.
