When I first head of SOPA and PIPA this is what I thought groups like Anonymous would be doing. Might as well prove how broken the system is.

ACTA predates SOPA/PIPA (I think, not sure when the latter appeared) and is indeed worse than it due to its much wider scope and international nature.

    Explained simply here:

And yes, Obama signed it a while ago.

The EU signed it yesterday, but it isn't yet ratified, and the rapporteur (Kader Arif, french EU deputy, socialist) charged with drafting the final version of the text quit in protest shortly after the signing.

    His reasons:
Quote Originally Posted by Kader Arif

As rapporteur on this text, I've also faced unprecedented maneuvers from the right of this parliament to impose a hastened calendar as to get the accord through as quick as possible to prevent public opinion to be made aware of it, thus depriving the EU parliament of its freedom of expression and of the tools put at its disposition to carry the legitimate revendications of the citizens.

Everybody knows ACTA is problematic, be it through its impact on civil lberties, the responsibilities it forces on ISPs, the consequences on fabrication of generic medicines or the little protection it offers to our geographical indications*.

This accord can have major consequences on the lives of our citizens, and yet all is done to silence the EU parliament on this matter. So, today, I hope to send a strong message and alert public opinion on this unacceptable situation. I will not partake in this masquerade.

*I think he means sovereignty, but the wording is strange.

No? If anything, I'd associate that with an american accent mostly. Usually, I hear brits say "pahtents" (they say it frequently on Dragon's Den).

But anyway, that guy is french, I think.

    By the way:

There is only one acceptable reference for the correct british pronunciation and accent: Jeremy Clarkson. So, until you have him saying "patent", I'll not be convinced!

I find it so hilarious that the reason why Obama even got elected was because he got all the all the cool hipster college kids vote that mindlessly jumped on the bandwagon of "change" and now they look retarded that he put his e.dick into the internet.

How's that working for ya? I'm so glad I decided not to vote because all candidates at the time were retarded.

Listen Fucktard, there are many reasons Obama was elected (honestly who with half a brain could vote republican after the last 8 years of bush?) Obama's detractors ( the people who didn't vote for him) need to stop trying to explain why other people did vote for him. Not voting does not make you look intelligent, it makes you look apathetic. Not voting says nothing, if you don't care for the republican or the democratic candidate, pick someone else. That at least shows that you want someone else, it voices discontent. Again, not voting doesn't say a god damn thing. So you keep sitting on your couch and telling everyone else how you're above it all. You're worse than the people that don't follow politics at all.

As if you deciding not to vote didn't implicitly contribute to him winning. Never mind that everyone else would have probably signed as well. Doesn't excuse him or you though.

First off, I need to get this out of the way.

Fuck any fucking douchebag who protests in those stupid fucking Guy Fawkes/V masks... Fuck them.

    Secondly, Obama, I am disappoint.

Thirdly, and most importantly... fuck China.

I wonder if the URL http://www.fuckchina.com is taken.

I don't mind the Chinese. I find the Chinese to be generally pleasant, affable people. But fuck China.

Actually not voting represents a vote of no confidence, it represents that you as a voting citizen of a democratic republic believe the government and its political system to be so inept, so corrupt, so beyond redemption and so out of touch with the values that represent the Constitution of your nation that you won't even dignify their charade with a vote.

Believing otherwise, republican or democrat, is the real tragedy. It is real apathy; to be so against one thing you will vote to oppose it regardless of whether it in itself represents democracy. It is a lack of caring about what your country was meant to represent, and the belief that some things "are just the way they are". I don't think that was the course of action men like Thomas Jefferson and George Washington proposed, and I don't think they cast their votes for Governors "hoping" something would change.
