Just got back from picking the game up; haven't played it yet, but first impressions on the Collector's Edition is a bit mixed, though mostly positive. The casing is nice and, to me, aesthetically pleasing. The concept art is built-in to the game's case, which isn't really a strong point for me, but at the same time I suppose I don't mind it too much. What does disappoint me, though, is the lack of it; there's three sections to the concept art (General, Weapon, and Monsters), but each section only has like 2-5 pieces to display, leading to what looks to be at most only a mere fifteen pages.
What does shine though is the soundtrack; 78 songs spread across four discs (about twenty songs per disc), leading to roughly six nonstop hours of beautifully composed orchestral music. I haven't been able to listen to the soundtrack in its entirety yet, but what I have heard so far matches what one would come to expect from the Final Fantasy series in terms of musical quality, with the majority of the tracks being composed by Naoshi Mizuta or Masashi Hamauzu.
Brief (tablebreaking) unboxing;
Spoiler: show
God work can't end fast enough for me today.
For those of you who are wondering how to activate your DLC (Genji Bow, etc), load up the game, shut it down and then update FFXIII-2 to 1.02. Your stuff should be available in chapter 2 or so (costumes before then, I think).
Yeah. You have to do both the update and redeem codes on PS store for PS3 DLC.
So you don't get the bow til Chapter 2? My game autoupdated to 1.02 no need to exit the game to do so. As for the outfit, I expected more, but I know I shouldn't have.
I have every intention of selling my bow and my outfit on ebay for 15$ a piece, and then buying them back later when they make it public for like 1$.
Really think they are worth that? I mean come on, the outfit is really not very good looking as it stands. I could see someone buying the Ultima Colosseum code for a few bucks but not 15.
Just started it. Wasn't too happy about the prospect of all the QTEs, but its kinda cool that some of them let you pick which attack you want to do in the scene. Hope theres more of those.
Looks like the DLC pricing is going to be relatively fair. $3.99 for the Lightning DLC.
So.. like last time with 13, any good grinding spots early on yet?
Not that many. If fact I think there's only one or two other which give you options.
I do wish they had some kind of QTE replay tho. I'm usually too engrossed waiting for the QTE to happen to even watch what's going on in the background.
Then again the only thing you get from perfect live triggers are monster adornments so if that's not your thing you can relax a little
It's probably been mentioned a billion times in the other thread but I never saw it. Was there any clarification what the "bonus for having completed XIII' was when you boot up XIII-2?
Careful with the themes I read they can still glitch trophies.
The Eterna Crystal supposedly helps you win at Slots in the Casino when you get there.
Anyone know when you learn how to throw the damn Moogle? Its ticking me off that I find these items I can only get by throwing it and I can't do it yet.
You learn how to do it in the Sunleth Waterways when you ride the forest beast.
Just unlocked Serendipity, i'm like 10-12 hrs in. I think i'm probably half way done with the story. It's incredibly easy to follow the story and holy fuck the pacing is so much better than XIIIs.
