1. Graphics 2. Its FF (FFXI was my 1st MMO) 3. Dont wanna be behind when 2.0 comes out 4. $9.99 x2 a month doesnt break my bank. If this game is not what I would like to be when 2.0 is out then I'll just sell/quit simple.

With work and life I don't get to play that much... but I still play because I am intrigued by the evolution of the game and would not play any other MMO out there anyway. I'd probably play more frequently if the server population was bigger, I have fun in a group but they are always hard to find.
1. Hype train (2.0 and all the new content jobs,af,dungeons, garuda)
2. 3 Friends i have in this game
3. Nothing else to do.. kinda biding my time till Tera....
Grey pretty much covered my reasoning. The best friends I made from XI are either not playing anything or playing XIV so I'm play with who I can. Hell, I know some of my friends from XI longer, better than I know people I work with. I've also met some really cool people from BG who have joined my LS, so it's been nice meeting new people as well that I'm (somewhat) familiar with from when I started lurking here six here five years ago. Leading and managing with said friends also keeps me around as I find it fun.
The game is still a let down in some spots, but it's finally at that point where it's teetering on the edge of recapturing that desire to log in and play with friends from when the moment I get home until I realize it's 3am and I really should be in bed already. That and games that my wife enjoys playing with me for extended periods are somewhat rare, so having a big time commitment game like this that pretty much never ends for the two of us (and we both enjoy it) is always a lot of fun.
Reason #1: I play because it feels almost too stressful joining an MMO later on its prime or waning days. I prefer to join and go through content as its implemented, when there's a buzz about it, rather than joining a few years later and being blown away with so many things to do but never getting around to completing anything or rushing through content unncessarily. It was sad that 11 was released so long afterwards in the EU, felt like I missed out on a lot.
Reason #2: I found in 11 it took way too long to gather for events, things like Einherjar took 2+ hours before everyone was ready. I havent' come across that kind of problem in 14 yet, perhaps because theres only low member content at the moment. I dont think it will ever be a problem though with dungeon finder etc.
I enjoy the game, plain and simple.
I play the game because it's fun. I want to be set by the time 2.0 comes out and actually be ahead instead of playing catch up. Also I have a pretty good LS that does stuff (ALL THE POSSIBILITIES OF STUFF TO DO) and well Fievel plays so I get to stare at his sexy ass.
I have a few IRL friends that play, and we have fun.
I like to get in on the ground floor of MMOs, and with XIV-2 in the wings, I feel like I'm getting ready for that.
I play because my character is beautiful.
I have no shame in saying I would totes bang my character.
Lies rocl stayed cuz there is Gobbue mounts or else he wouldve quit
Would you please, pretty please, just stop? You said this once and have since repeated it ad infinitum as if it's the one truth and you're the only one who can see it. Yes, there are some people who are play just to be awesome when 2.0 comes out, but considering there's going to be the option for all new players to play on exclusive servers that old players can't transfer to, it's a moot point. You repeat this mantra in what seems like every thread and it's obnoxious. You don't even play from what I can tell, but decided to post here anyway just to fill your quota of being obnoxious in every thread.
I have to admit aesthetics are extremely important for me. I love how the characters have weight to them and their actions and movement seem natural. I love the way XIV looks and with the map revamp it's even gonna get better.
I completely despise how games like SWOTR and Rift look. As far as Guild Wars, simply the way the characters look and move will not let me enjoy it at all.
I didn't follow the game after I quit XI due to some lingering bitterness towards SE. Around January '11 I heard the game sucked hard. I thought "how bad could it be?" and tried it. Granted I avoided the brunt of the storm that was the terrible initial SP system but I didn't think it was the worst thing I'd ever played. Now I stay because of my LSmates more than any low expectations I have towards the game's future. It's become an analytical thing now.
For the same reason I liked XI over other MMOs out there, I liked XIV for the aesthetics. Might be a petty thing but I dislike the act of labeling characters "toons" and making them impersonal achievement vessels. It's 0's and 1's you spent a long-ass time (months and years) to make look like the prettiest princess of them all. It's a character.
I play to try out the new patches, then don't play again til the next one really.
I enjoyed FFXI, and I enjoy FFXIV. Plus, I'm into trophies, so I'm trying to max everything out before the game gets released for PS3.
DoW/DoM done, DoL is being surprisingly more difficult in the higher levels than I thought it would be. EXP just comes far slower than combat classes.
Few games feature a dedicated hand-to-hand class. The only places one can find martial arts/monk classes are D&D, Everquest and FFs with job systems. But D&D games died with NWN2, there hasn't been a proper job system FF since Tactics Advance 2(?), and EQ fell out of favor back in '04.
Right now, it's either FFXIV or Blade & Soul.
