^ That's a good point, oddly enough. There aren't a lot of punching classes in modern MMOs, especially the high-fantasy MMOs. Not that we need to go all Crouching Tiger or anything, there's little that's as fun as bludgeoning the shit out of something with one's fists.

Now if only there was blood...

    #2 Leading.

Right now life is pretty stagnant for me. Just finished my master's and running the guild gives me something to do in my free time while I look for work. I always have a good time running events and feeling like a part of something fun, and that's a big part of gaming for me. I did a lot of leading in FFXI and I feel like I have a knack for it so I've stuck with it through the years and guilds I run have always had successes.

Those are my big two--one for everyone else and one for me.

Not to offend you or anything but I think someone needs to tell you this: sounds like you're addicted to the game.
If you care about your online friends and yourself then you should drop the leadership and have someone who actually enjoys the game take your place.
I've been through that before so I know what I'm talking about.

The beautiful scenery and soundtracks. No, not the overworld or battle music, I'm talking about the quest BGMs. Those are really well written.

Also, western MMOs are really bad at designing gear. I preferred XI's armor design over WoW's, the only problem I had with it was that the stats sucked so you ended up wearing really lame looking pieces with awesome stats.

We're all addicted in our own way. For me it's my friends. The game merely becomes an arena to interact with them.

Lately I've been putting this game down for days at a time and playing Skyrim or something else, but I always try to make events if I'm in town. Don't think this thread is about me though.

    Edit: clarification

Don't you realize how absurd the concept of leading people in doing something you hate is?
Would you willingy work with others in a project that not only robs you of your time, but it doesn't reward you in any way?

It seems like a cheap excuse to hide your addiction. When you keep doing something that you don't like for an extended period of time it may as well defined as such.
Since the release of the game you've spent most of your time on this forum complaining about the million things this game can be criticized for.

If I were you I'd pass the leadership to someone who actually enjoys the game (believe it or not, there are those who do - and this is coming from someone who doesn't like it) and spend my time dedicating myself to something that actually feels rewarding and satisfying.

So has everyone else. The social aspect is what drives a lot of people to keep playing (or to quit, for lack of it), far more than the gameplay itself (which really isn't that good right now as we all know).

Perhaps leading is part of why I enjoy the game. You know like people who volunteer to feed the needy feel good about it even if they get nothing for it monetarily? Have you ever considered this? No, clearly not. Have you also considered that no one else in my LS wants to be the leader? No, you probably haven't considered that either. Instead you've taken it upon yourself to place a label on me based on the limited interaction, if it can even be called that, with me on these forums. And who are you to call how I feel 'cheap'? Because you take issue with it?

I'm not trying to hide my addiction. I enjoy aspects of the game, but that doesn't mean I can't complain about things I'd like to see change. Why don't you go point your personal attack laser on someone else who does the same thing eh?

Besides, what difference does it make why I still play in a thread made to discuss just those very things. You know this section would be a lot better if posts like the one you've made simply didn't exist. It's off-topic and if you really wanted to discuss this with me you'd send me a PM instead of attempting to derail the thread so you could try to poke fun at me publicly or whatever your agenda is.

I play, because I still enjoy it. I take a considerably slower pace than most as to grasp and learn more about the things I am doing. Whether it be a DoW or DoL class. I'm also looking forward to the future of this game as it gets more promising with each update.
I've always liked playing Monk/Black Belt/Ninja style classes and from XI-XIV is where I've had my fix of both. I can't seem to get back into XI and I recently tried out DC Universe and disliked it terribly. In my honest opinion SE does MMOs in a manner that fits my play style. More serious tones, great storyline and more mature settings.
Separates the boys from the men in some cases.
~This is why I still play.

I share a lot of the reasons already mentioned, but probably the biggest reason I've continued to play is a hope that it'll eclipse 11, and to prepare my character to be able to experience as much new interesting content as possible should their progress continue. I really enjoyed many aspects of 11, but I closed the door on that game a long time ago. I've played a few other MMOs over the years, but none of them have managed to capture my interest as much as 11 did nearly a decade ago, even though I quit the game from sheer frustration over some aspects of the it.

So, yeah... I want them to give me another game that lets me play every class on 1 char, and has interesting classes and wondrous places to explore, but isn't 11. I've enjoyed many aspects of 14 since release and been frustrated with even more, but without that hope and the progress shown by the dev teams (they seem to be getting there), I would have never played past that 1st month.

Anyways, that's the biggest reason. I don't regret my time played thanks to the community and some of the adventures we've shared, but if they don't deliver by 2.0 I'll probably never play another SE game again!

I loved XI and I love this game too. I like games like harvest moon and animal crossing (lol ik..) where you do the same thing over and over and over. This game since I've had all my DoW/M leveled feels similar when I do crafting/gathering so I enjoy it.
Easy to please I guess ;s

The people I've met are all pretty cool to~
I plan on staying past 2.0 (pending its still here)

I recently picked up Tera though and I'll admit right after the NA beta shut down last week and I logged on XIV I tried to dodge monsters WS/abilities and jump roll ;(

Combat wise~ I guess I've seen the light lol. Crafting/Gathering wise I love and currently gives me something to do as well as looking forward to jobs/private room in 1.21 ;3

I've played since closed beta, so I've watched this game evolve from practically nothing into something with great potential. I love the people that I play the game with, and enjoy all of the content that has been added. Honestly, it's always been fun for me, even back when it was just doing leves for 3 hours a night and watching your LS friends all hit their first R50 class at once lol. Not only that, but even when there wasn't a ton of story based and lore content, there was still plenty of grinding to be done, and really it let me and the other people who continued to play to get a jump and have an edge over those who left and came back or just started later. I enjoy being able to go into a new content area as soon as it's out and be destroying it with people a week later with the people I've played with for so long. We all have lots of inside jokes and all that good junk, so I've also made quite a few friends in game. All-in-all it's just a good time and lots of fun.
