    $1000 computer build for FFXIV

Posting this in another section as it may be more relevant.

Okay so I have a budget now of $1000 for a desktop. I would love some input on what people think I should do. The main focus is for FFXIV gaming. Eventually I'll want to make music on it but that's at the back of everything atm. So I need hardware, a monitor, Windows 7-64 and all the good jazz. I'm trying to get input from a few different forums and find out what's gonna work the best for me. Thanks!

If you want to simply overhaul your current PC and not get a new one:

    New mobo (P67 or Z68)

    i5 2500K

DDR3 RAM (4GB of plenty, but RAM is so cheap right now, so I'd get 8GB)

If you want a new PC:

    i5 2500K

    P67 or Z68 mobo

    8GB DDR3 RAM

    6950 2GB or GTX 560 Ti 448 or GTX 570 or 6970

650W PSU (from a reputable brand)

    Coolermaster HAF 922 or 912

    500GB/1TB hard drive

    60gb ssd

Don't buy a video card until the 7850/7870 and 600 series gets released in a few weeks.

Don't buy a video card yet... 7850/7870 comes out March 18/19. I'm currently waiting on that to upgrade.

could do it for $500 easy. built current system a year before 14 came out and runs great on max settings. Should be able to perform all sorts of black magic with the stuff on the market now.

Still using 5850 which runs FFXIV at high settings with AA 4x 50-60 FPS. However turning draw quality to 10 and Ambient Occlusion causes framerate issues for my video card currently. Asside of that I run everything on high and don't have any performance issues.

I built my wife's for $1130 which included absolutely everything. I left her's open for improvements down the road, so you could probably drop the quality on a few things to hit your mark.

Even moreso if you listen to everyone and avoid getting GPU until the new ones are released.

I did not add a monitor/mouse/keyboard or whatever else you may want. I just threw this together in a few minutes and some choices are lowest cost based on brand.

I'm sure you could cut back on video card (once the new ones come out).
If you don't wish to overclock, then get just the 2500.
If you don't need a new hard drive, or all that space, get a smaller size.
    Get a cheaper case.
Find a friend who has a legal key for Windows 7.

this is not within $1000 budget but this is my rig atm that i actually use for work purposes and of course, some gaming too. Purposely built for 3D CAD Rendering

CPU: Intel Core i7 3960X Extreme Retail
    Motherboard: Asus R-P6T Deluxe v2
    Memory: 6x G.Skill 4GB Sniper PC3 12800 DDR3 1600
    Hard Drive: 4xWestern Digital 2TB 7200rpm, 2xOCZ 120GB Vertex Plus (Raid0 Boot)
Video Card: 2xAMD Radeon HD 6990 4GB Dual GPU Cayman Graphics Card
Case: Thermaltake Level 10 GT Snow Edition
    Power Supply: Thermaltake Toughpower TP-1500M
Optical Drive: Sony BD-5300S-0B 12x Internal BD Writer
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit
Cooling: Custom built dual flow water cooling

Downloading FFXIV updates atm to see what FFXIV is like now compared to back when it 1st came out. still mainly play FFXI tho, its a but extreme for FFXI but for the 3D CAD rendering i do is just perfect
