I guess we should draw up some flash cards for each breed so the Police Academy knows what dogs you can shoot and which are harmless.
Rot? Shoot it.
Pit? Shoot it.
Poodle? Harmless.
Chihuahua? Apply the billy club.
Husky? Shoot it.
Doberman? Shoot it.
I get the idea that dogs are close to people and we all think our pets are harmless balls of adorable fluff but when a cop walks into a dangerous situation (domestic violence no less), you have to make a decision on if a dog is dangerous and simply saying "well, that breed is generally harmless" isn't going to cut it. I'm sure many cops are dog owners themselves and do not wish to shoot a dog but if it's growling, unresponsive and potentially threatening you're left with little choice.
