Sounds like a plausible theory. Everybody start writing that shit down. I guess I'll have to start my spreadsheet over.

The problem now is that we need to figure out just how close the ilvl has to be to get certain %.

The good news is that I think T11 and T12 have the largest variance in ilvls, so getting useful data from lower level items as people level alts should be fairly easy, if people keep providing data.

For what it's worth, gold enigmatic +8 weapons are ilvl 145. The best thing you can buy on the AH are blue or gold items that are both 139 (this would make blues the same % success as golds by the way). Whites and Greens are 135.

OK, so I tried a couple after hearing this theory also. I didn't sort my items properly by item level beforehand, but here we go:

Tier 11 gold body item level 123
    Green 121 +1
    Green 113 +2 (main now level 125)
    Green 121 +3 (127)
    Green 121 fail
    Blue 123 +4 (129)
    Blue 123 +5
    Blue 123 +6 (131)

Tier 11 gold weapon item level 113
    White 109 +1
    White 113 +2 (115)
    White 119 +3
    Green 107 +4 (117)
    Green 111 +5
    Green 115 fail
    Green 119 fail
    Gold 123 +6 (119)

Before I heard about this idea, I enchanted a green level 17 (tier 3) weapon using other trash greens from broker (bought the cheapest, didn't check item levels). I didn't fail until trying to +5, failed 4 times, pass to +5, failed 12 more times before passing to +6.

    Tier 12 Weapon +8
    Blue 139 fail x 11
    Green 37 fail x 4

Kill me now. I'm up to 10.5k spent so far.

    Edit to update.

I'd only be using golds tbh. for how much it costs just to try, its not worth using anything less. Especially if you run Fane or BT enough your gonna get gold fodder anyways

You could also enchant some of those fodder pieces using other fodder pieces up to +6, raising their item level and thus raising the chance that it will work toward getting you up to +9. Really seems plausible, since why else do enchantable whites exist if nobody ever wears enchanted whites?

actually that doesn't work. You can only enchant weapons, equipment that have the +3, +6, +9 modifiers. So unless your gonna be using engimatic gear as DE fodder it won't work

I'm confused what you're saying doesn't work. There are enchantable pieces of all 4 rarities. If it is indeed a comparison between ilvls, throwing a few pieces of shit gear at a gold enchantable may be a better way to get from 7 to 9.

You can only enchant gear that has enchant modifiers on it. You can't just enchant any weapon/item you want

If you enchant, say, a white up to +3 or +6 (and there are whites that are enchantable) using the lower ilevel non-enchantable whites, it will raise the item level of that enchantable white. Now, use that higher ilevel white +3 or +6 to try enchanting your Gold +8. Using that enchanted white (or green or blue or crappy gold) with a higher ilevel should have a higher chance of success than simply throwing all your non-enchanted low ilevel whites at the gold directly.

In my 1/34 streak for +9, I enchanted a gold to +4 and tried... still broke.

I honestly don't think iLevel means shit in terms of success/failure; it's more just the RNG fucking with us with its already extremely low (<15%?) odds of success.

    Whens the spreadsheet come out??

I was wondering about this. Any preliminary info on tier 12 enchanting would be really helpful for those of us still stuck trying to get that elusive +9.

I've been so busy crafting and AH-camping I haven't updated in a while. It's on my to-do list for the weekend.

Okay I haven't tried enchanting yet and after reading I'm ready to give it a shot sometime soon. I do have a question though, to achieve the numbers in this thread is everyone using alkahests? Can you use multiple alkahests? Is it necessary to use them and in what quantities or qualities do you need to use them? I didn't see an answer to that so if its posted elsewhere sorry but I figured this would be the best place to look.

    Thanks.

Regular alkahest from +1 to +6. Refined Alkahest from +7 to +9 and the last alkahest (forget the name) from +10 to +12. Each attempt requires as many alkahest as the tier of the item.

Thanks alot. I had a hunch it was something like that regarding the number of alks but wasn't sure.
